09.01.2022 With winter approaching and the sad reality of so many recent home fires and tragedies, for the sake of a few minutes of your time once a month these following tips can be done easily to help avoid this happening to you and your family: Test the smoke alarm and battery every month. It's important that the smoke alarm battery backup is checked regularly, to ensure the best protection for any home. To test, press the Test/Hush button on the unit, or via the remote Test/Hush wal...l switch available on surface mounting bases. Checking the battery should be done with the mains power switched off. The alarm should sound, indicating that the battery condition is acceptable. If the unit fails to respond, the battery should be replaced without delay. It's also good practice to clean the alarm from dust or insect ingress each month to avoid any unwanted false alarms. Replace the battery every year. You should replace smoke alarm batteries once a year to ensure that they will work correctly. Choose a common date each year which is easy to remember (i.e. birthdays, end/start of daylight saving). Replace the smoke alarm every 10 years. All smoke alarms have a limited service life of 10 years. After that period, the entire smoke alarm unit must be replaced with a new one. Under the HIP, around 1.2 million households were insulated at a cost of around $1.45 billion. The program was closed on 19 February 2010 due to escalating safety and compliance concerns, including three tragic electrocutions and a number of fire incidents in households with insulation installed under the HIP. If you have insulation installed...: If you have concerns about the insulation do not enter the ceiling unless you have a Master Electrician inspect it Safety switches only provide protection on certain circuits. Mains cables, stove, lighting, and hot water circuits are usually not protected It is recommended that you get a Master Electrician to inspect and ensure you and your family are safe If you have any concerns, book an Insulation Safety Test with a Master Electrician.
