18.01.2022 This year the House Cup was an extremely close race with the winning House only taking the lead after the final competition of the year. The activities that took place throughout the year required skills across the academic, sporting and cultural fields with teams having to work together to try and lead their House to victory. Next year the House Cup will be even bigger with more opportunities for you to display your House pride and spirit. This year’s winning House showed respect, integrity and resilience across all areas of the competition and never gave up, taking the win in the last round. Congratulations to Sagitta House!

18.01.2022 Congratulations to the Agribusiness Star Program students who were chosen to represent Loganlea SHS on a series of tours to local farms and agribusiness operations this week. The Agricultural Inspirations program is run by Agforce through the Schools to Industry Partnership Program. Host sites have included a chicken/hay/cattle farm, the Scenic Rim Robotic Dairy, the Rocky Point Sugar Mill, a sugarcane mulch producer, a vegetable farm, a flower grower and the Department of Agriculture and Forestry’s EcoSciences Precinct. The tours have been a fantastic showcase of innovation, careers and industry. This has been a dream opportunity - the smiles say it all.

04.01.2022 On Tuesday 24th November a group of Industry Ambassador students went on an excursion to the Queensland Museum and Cineplex Cinema South Bank to learn about what it takes to run those organisations and to explore job opportunities in the industries. Ms Susan, who is a Learning officer at the Queensland Museum, took the students on a tour around level 5 (social history and culture) and 6 (natural environment laboratories) to meet scientists working at the museum, tour the labs... and the exposition storage area. Students had a chance to talk to the conservator about cleaning, preparing and documenting artefacts for the exhibitions. They saw a DNA lab that stores flesh from animal specimens some of which are extinct. Industry ambassadors spoke to a parasitologist (studies parasites), entomologist (studies insects) and acarologist (studies mites and ticks). They learnt that the world leading arachnologist (studies spiders) Dr Robert Raven works at the Queensland Museum. In the storage section students had a chance to see slides with mites, skeletons used for exhibitions, study skins and much more. Sam, one of the students, said that he was surprised to learn there are many more jobs at the museum than one might think. Some of these jobs include: admin staff, education officers, researchers, DNA specialists, specimen collectors, designers, architects, marketers, mineralogists, geologists, carpenters, electricians, and artists. At the Cineplex Cinema South Bank students went behind the scenes to learn facts about operating a cinema. Industry Ambassadors were shown how to operate a front counter, make popcorn and handle customer service. Our students learnt that there is a weekly program to determine the schedule of movies. They were taken to the top level into the projector area to show how movies are played. The students had a chance to speak to the projectionist and ask questions about showing movies, checking equipment, setting up the movie session, and receiving and preparing movie hard drives. Year 10 students were told about jobs at the cinema such as the projectionists, crew members, crew trainers and managers that are needed to run a cinema. It was a very memorable excursion for the Industry Ambassadors involved who learnt many new facts about running and working at those two organisations. Make sure to ask them some questions when you see them.
