23.01.2022 Features a fellow MAVA Melbourne and Victorian Artists the talented Julee Latimer Art

22.01.2022 Hello friends! Here are some of my favourite photos from the last week, I hope you enjoy Sorry I've been so quiet on here, very busy with my day job and needing to rest after work so not many adventures.... I need to live through your stories, so tell me what you've been up to??

21.01.2022 "Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don't just give up." - Stephen Hawking A short walk on the beach today has me feeling inspired to create, hopeful that our curiosity and drive to discover the beautiful will help us save us, and this amazing planet ...we call home. What's inspired you lately? #inspiration #conservation #beautyisallaround #beautyinnature

20.01.2022 Who's looking forward to Christmas? I'm starting to think about Christmas card designs After having the realisation Christmas is not far away! Feeling so out of sync this year.... #christmasiscoming #christmascard

17.01.2022 Every day is an opportunity to get creative and surprise yourself! #inktober2020 is turning out to be a heap of fun, I’ve never felt so open to taking risks and trying things out. Living in Melbourne lockdown means my world is very small, but throwing myself into Inktober activities has helped me gain some mental freedom and I’m loving it. It’s also great interacting and discovering new artists by engaging with the hashtags. Anyhoo, here is a video for my week 2 Inkober catch...-up Day 5 12 Hope you enjoy it. I have a few faves from last week, the Peacock for Fancy and Mushrooms for Slippery being top of my list, which one are you a fan of? See my stories for more pics and close-ups. 17.01.2022 Do you have a art hack? Or something that you can't do without in your art practice? Join me on a quick desk tour in my studio and find out what ONE item I find INVALUABLE and use in so many ways.

17.01.2022 I'm so happy #inktober is here! Really happy with how I've kicked off, although I need more practice with the pressure of my dip pen as I was a bit heavy handed. Day 1 Fish - She is sad, overwhelmed and trapped, a fish comes to her in a dream with a glowing gold tail and frees her of all worries.... Day 2 Wisp - This Wisp appreaded in my minds eye as soon as I read the prompt, there was a kids TV show called 'Willow the Wisp' I loved growing up. The term is taken from English folklore, originally will-o'-the-wisp(Latin for 'giddy flame') is an atmospheric ghost light seen by travelers at night, especially over bogs, swamps, or marshes. In literature, will-o'-the-wisp metaphorically refers to a hope or goal that leads one on but is impossible to reach, or something one finds sinister and confounding.[ What do you think? Does one speak to you more than the other. Love how shiny the Winsor and Newton Inks are, especially the silver and they go down really smoothly. Check out my stories to see the shine. 16.01.2022 Melbourne's laneways might be some of our smallest public spaces. But they're also some of our most loved and iconic. And that's why we're using this time to tu...rn around 40 of them into something completely unique - ready for when we can safely reopen the CBD. More than 150 Victorians working in the creative industry will be hired for the job. Designers and artists, music producers and light specialists. It'll be the biggest laneway revitalisation project in Melbourne's history. And when we're back up and running, it will bring locals and visitors back to our city - and to the businesses that call it home. I reckon it'll be pretty special.

15.01.2022 When your best laid plans don't work out Have you had something go horribly wrong lately? In the first pic you'll see my nice clean palette but if you swipe you'll see how dirty and grimy it was ... No, I didn't have a tantram but I wasn't happy. I was painting on the river with a arty friend last week when Loki decided to jump up on the bank and landed right in my palette!! After 2 hours of cleaning sand, salt and dirt out of my paints (and replacing a couple that couldn't be saved) it's finally a usable palette again #artistproblems Now I'm heading out on my first mask free walk in a long time Have you been out without a mask on yet?

13.01.2022 Whether you create it yourself or simply observe and enjoy it, art is a relaxing and inspiring activity for many people. I'd like to touch on the intensely creative and personal journey I've been on this month. Having been in a rut for some time now, the stress of lockdown and all the aspects that comes in has been effecting not just my creativity but every aspect of my life. In August I knew things had to change but I was at a loss, I had tried and failed many attempts unti...l I had a sort of epiphany. What if I didn't focus on anything else but my art practice, what if creating became my main daily driver, how would that change things? I only really told my husband and best friend of my intentions as I was scared of failing again. So, I set out to create every day, it took me about a week to start getting into it and 2 weeks to see any difference. Can you guess what happened? I started to feel more motivated, I took bigger risks in my art and tried to tap into my imagination and emotions in different ways and best of all... My mood improved, my work productivity improved and my creative ideas were firing off. Not just the but my ability realise them was better than ever, it was like I had lost some of the imposter that is always sitting on my shoulder telling me my 'art isn't good enough' and I'll 'never be able to pull that off'. So, it's the end of the month I'm very proud of what I have accomplished, surprised that I only missed 3 days of creating out of 30. I wanted to share this quote as it sums up how I feel about art, art doesn't always need to be shared, it can be just for you, to express and understand your emotions. I'd love to hear if you've had a similar experience or tried something like this before and if it affected more than that your art/ art process. If you've read this far thank you for your support, it's a pretty long post. I hope the content hasn't triggered or upset you. Behind the quote is a piece I painted on a very low day at the start of the month, it was the first one where I was able to tap into my emotions. #artquotes #creativity #arttherapy #artisticcommunity #mavacollective #calledtobecreative

10.01.2022 You may know I'm part of MAVA Melbourne and Victorian Artists I found the group at the start of my art journey, their encouragement has meant so much to me. Because of this wonderful group I have made amazing arty friends, learnt so much and had the opportunity to take part in group exhibitions. MAVA is now growing and we need your help.... We are currently raising funds for the development costs of virtual exhibitions in the hope to provide more affordable opportunities to Artists in Victoria. If you have $3 to spare to help raise some much-needed funds for the growing art group I'm part of, then this is the link. https://ko-fi.com/mava_collective The group is now a non-profit association and will soon be releasing its first website. Thank you in advance for your support.

09.01.2022 This capture is just amazing!

08.01.2022 "They meet every night to comfort each other."

07.01.2022 Don't let anyone tell you it's impossible. Including you! The ability to form or understand mental concepts and abstractions and then bring them to life in your world is an amazing trait, it is something I strive for as an artist. I go through periods where an idea seems impossible, beyond my skill set or understanding. I always try to rise to that challenge and in doing so I learn so much, success isn't the final destination, it's the magic that happens because I took ...those scary steps. I'd love for you to kick off this weekend understanding that the challenges we face will always make us stronger, the magic lies in challenging what seems impossible. Wishing you a wonderful weekend #artquotes #creativity #artisticcommunity #mavacollective #calledtobecreative #lokilovesart See more

06.01.2022 "Depression is on the unknown modes of being. There are no words for a world without a self, seen with impersonal clarity. All language can register is the slow return to oblivion we call health when imagination automatically recolors the landscape and habit blurs perception and language takes up its routine flourishes." - Anne Carson, Poet. Watercolour Pebbles series On 300gsm archival paper with Daniel Smith Watercolours. ... Color is often used as a reference point in conversation around depression. During this difficult time in lockdown, I was struggling to express how I felt, to connect to the self. While creating this series of paintings I found myself again and was able to express how I felt without the need for words. I hope they bring you a smile today. Mental health is important, look after yourself and your loved ones, check in on them. The fact is we are all in this together, that's never been more evident than now. You never know what difference you can bring to someone’s life with just one phone call. #mentalhealthawareness #inthistogether #mentalhealth #resilience #mavacollective #watercolorrocks #acquerello #arttherapy

04.01.2022 "Creativity doesn't wait for that perfect moment. It fashions its own perfect moments out of ordinary ones." - Bruce Garrabrandt I am loving #inktober2020 so far and seeing all the amazing art I have removed so much of the stress and rules I usually apply to it. I want to convey my thoughts and feelings, without pressure on the outcome. My rules this year:... 1. Imagination decides, I may follow the prompt directly or it could lead me down a rabbit hole. No torturing myself that my art doesn't directly reflect the prompt. 2. Ink has to be used in some form 3. If I want to add other mediums (like watercolor, gouache, pencil) I will 4. Have fun and try to surprise myself I'm also not committing to posting every day, I'll prob post in my stories but will just do a Monday wrap-up of my Inktober week. I want to spend more time creating and less time online this year. Here's my first one! Are you joining in or have you set yourself rules this year? 1. Fish - Searching for a deeper awareness of the unconsciousness 2. Wisp - A will-o'-the-wisp (faerie or elemental spirit) 3. Bulky - Inspired by Portrait of a Fat Man by Robert Campin. The bulk of the fleshy cheeks and the alert look in the eyes is enhanced by a close crop. This is a 1st for me! 4. Radio - Transported to memories of recording songs off the radio on my uncle's ghetto blaster as a young teenager. I wanted to use blue but have an old feel so added some water just before it dried. 03.01.2022 I'm a huge fan of Frida and really enjoyed this article so thought I'd share it. Hope you enjoy. "The gardener in Frida must have been equal parts dreamer and pragmatist because her flower consumption was not small. A quarter acre of geraniums adorned her hair daily, harvested for those iconic up-dos and flower crowns. Let it be said: Frida Kahlo was the first lady of flowers."

01.01.2022 She sprouted love like flowers, grew a garden in her mind, and even on the darkest days, from her smile the sun still shined. Erin Hanson #iris #irisflower #irisesinbloom #artinnature #floralstories #mybloominglens #flowerphotography
