15.01.2022 THEN > NOW. Our very own founder, Claude Reid circa late 1920's with some very cute furry friends! Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary opened in 1927 as a safe refuge for sick, injured & orphaned koalas, at a time when the species was being culled for the fur trade. Claude recognised something had to be done to help protect one of Australia's most iconic species and now, well, here we are today! We are now the world's oldest and largest koala sanctuary, home to over 100 koalas a...nd 70 species of other native Australian animals. From our sustainability initiatives to our passionate & determined staff, our aim is to continue to inspire our community & the world, to make small, positive changes in their daily lives to help keep our wildlife safe, and to encourage a generational change for the environment. Keep an eye out for upcoming experiences & more ways you can help us be the change our world needs! 14.01.2022 Meet Holly the wombat - she loves long walks in the sanctuary. Yep, our wombats go for regular walks as part of their enrichment program. Daily walks are not only great exercise for our wombats, but also allows them to discover all new sights, sounds & smells! But as Keeper Beck will tell you, wombats are quite stubborn by nature, so it is often a case of our wombats walking our keepers, rather than the other way around. We hope you have your jogging legs on, Beck!

02.01.2022 With a Brisbane heatwave just a few days away, our dedicated keepers are already planning how they will be keeping all of our animals fresh and cool! The best part is, you can also incorporate some of these easy tips to help your pets beat the heat at home A wading pool for our sheep dogs, ice packs for our koalas, and mud baths for our pigs are just a few ways we keep our animals cool Other easy tips and tricks include ice cubes or frozen fruit, gently sprinkling you...r pets with the hose, or misting smaller birds with a spray bottle Wrapping an ice pack or frozen water bottle in a tea towel is also the perfect way to keep smaller pets, like guinea pigs and chickens, feeling refreshed. Please avoid walking dogs during the hottest part of the day - if the ground is too hot for your feet, it is too hot for their little paws too And don't forget about local wildlife. Putting out a shallow dish of water or a birdbath can provide a much-needed drink for wild animals in your area! Got any questions for us? Leave them in the comments below!
