25.01.2022 Looks like we have missed the original swarm. This one's really small. This afternoon I have put it in the nuc 5 times - they were liking the Bottle Brush. Guessing they don't have a queen so will need to wait and see what happens.
25.01.2022 Too breezy to open hives today. But thats not stopping these industrious bees. They have nector and pollen to collect, and places to explore.

23.01.2022 Checked on one of the swarms late this afternoon - it was overflowing with bees. Quickly moved them from a 5 frame swarm box to a 10 frame hive. Im sure they will be happy with the extra room. Bring on the rain
23.01.2022 With a quick phone call and the location sorted we were off to pick up a swarm in Castle Hill. They walked themselves into there winter home and have hope to settled in nicely to rural life style. Suprising with a few warmish days there still is a considerable amount of bee activity around.

22.01.2022 What a beautiful day! The bees were enjoying the weather as well. I tried to do a sneaky inspection without my smoker. Bees -1 Di - 0 2 stings to the body and lots of attempts on my gloves. Hopefully tomorrow they will let me rob their honey and inspect the brood boxes.

16.01.2022 What a awesome day to spend time with our bees. General inspections for pests, checked on a few brood boxes and removed some supers to prepare for winter. The girls have made some beautiful honey frames. We extracted 23 frames today, we have lots of honey ready to be bottled later in the week.

15.01.2022 So with a good run of weather, the bees are starting to go boom . We split a few hives today and they were jam packed. We also did our first harvest for the season on some of the other hives this weekend. Hive management is key to happy productive bees and with this right, fresh honey will be available soon.

14.01.2022 Nice day for our October pest and disease inspection. Looking at the brood boxes and a sneak peek at the honey production. The hives seemed to have travelled thru winter well. Lots of bees and honey. We were able to make a few splits to give some of the hives more room. The queens are laying well with some full brood patterns
13.01.2022 So with a slow start to the honey flow season the apiary has had a slight expansion. A few swarms to add and a couple of packages thrown in too. We have had a good first harvest, so if you would like to order some rich golden honey send us a message and we will sort it out. Available in 500g, 1kg and a limited number of 500g squeezes for those that like a little less mess.
13.01.2022 Pics of a swarm we caught over at Windsor this afternoon. A nice size bundle of that fitted well into a Nuc box and are now calling Lost River home.
12.01.2022 Whilst most people were asleep, Lost River had an early rise to collect a swarm in Baulkham Hills. With the girls at a nice height, it was a swift collection and of to the farm.

10.01.2022 With a nice sunny start to the day could not help but notice that Spring is just around the corner. There is plenty of activity at the hives too with lots of coming and going. Wont be long until we start our spring inspections and splitting of some hives. Hope this season treats us better than last.

05.01.2022 Today we got 3 Queen bees. This is how they are purchased. Each box has 1 queen and 3 or 4 attendees. They feed the queen royal jelly. It should take between 3 to 5 days before she is out of the cage and looking to start laying.
