23.01.2022 Ok reaching out for an opinion... I am painting a feature wall in my office. Do I go a deep blue or do I go the brown that is in my logo? I don't think I would like a full wall of green, and the blue would match other offices in the building, but the brown is more reflective of this business... what are your thoughts?

23.01.2022 An interesting, although older, article on ecstacy use and psychological problems. In my experience, I have seen a lot of regular Ecstacy users, once they had ceased the drug or slowed down, who have had ongoing issues with depression. http://www.abc.net.au//thep/stories/2013/12/09/3906736.htm

23.01.2022 Some new information about cannabis, brain changes and schizophrenia! Cannabis induced psychosis can certainly look like schizophrenia, and for a long time researchers and workers in the field have known that if you have a genetic predisposition to schizophrenia, cannabis use can increase your chances of developing schizophrenia, but this is another step along. http://edition.cnn.com//h/time-marijuana-brain/index.html

22.01.2022 I have a new office!! See me at Level 1, 13 Collier Road in Morley!! I also have a post office box to ensure the security and privacy of the mail I am sent. Phone numbers remain the same :)

22.01.2022 So weve gone the reddy brown colour for the wall to match the logo, except its turned out a little redder than I would like.... Now Im on the look out for pictures, and after pictures if I dont like the wall it will be back to the paint shop.....

20.01.2022 And back on board and busy busy busy..... closed a few peoples files this week so a few new spaces have opened up. If you need an appointment or are thinking of referring someone call quick. 08 96424 9920 during business hours.

19.01.2022 Controversial! What are your thoughts? http://health.ninemsn.com.au//adhd-does-not-exist-neurolog

19.01.2022 Research is showing that medical use of cannabis can be quite effective in some chronic nerve related conditions, with fewer side effects than other medications. So should we legalise it for medical use? http://www.abc.net.au/pm/content/2013/s3908139.htm

19.01.2022 More on caffeine! We do love our caffeine, but we need to remember it is a drug and that doses need to be limited. http://www.abc.net.au/worldtoday/content/2013/s3928409.htm

18.01.2022 So for those in the industry, and for those who are interested don't forget about the EOFYS Sales!!! - For ACER Psychology - the code is CLIN2014 for 15% at the checkout, - for Australian Academic Press, the code is winter14 for 20% off the total range on the website! Unfortunately it doesn't appear that Pearson are having a sale, but if they are please correct me!

18.01.2022 Usually I buy up on my psychology books and resources at the end of financial year sales. But right now the Australian Academic Press has a sale on! Until the 28th February you can get a 20% on www.aapbooks.com by entering the code "summersale" . Their range isn't huge, but it is worth checking out at 20% off!!

18.01.2022 Issues with overeating can be worsened with shift work or irregular sleeping patterns. http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2013//05/3905519.htm

17.01.2022 People often underestimate caffeine as a drug. Do watch you caffeine intake - if you are having more than 4 serves a day of coffee, cola, or chocolate, and even less of energy drinks, please consider cutting back - your heart health plus more is at risk. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-25156509

17.01.2022 Grief is horrendous, but the grief of a parent who has lost a child is beyond words. This article however comes up with some great suggestions as to what you can do and say when it comes to a friend who has lost a child. http://www.zenparenting.us/2014/02/in-memory-of-rissa.html

15.01.2022 Its important to limit your childrens TV time, and this is why... http://health.ninemsn.com.au//watching-too-much-tv-could-a

15.01.2022 Great information about caffeine! http://www.abc.net.au//libr/stories/2006/04/27/1829125.htm

14.01.2022 Taking a break this week, but will be back on board next week....

14.01.2022 With the aging population, dementia cases are rising. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-25213162

13.01.2022 Sometimes getting up earlier can make a big change to your day - being more organised and not rushed, means you enjoy your day more and are less likely to make mistakes that cause even more stress. What do you do to keep organised and less stressed?

13.01.2022 The end of school holidays is in sight and Term 1 is about to begin! How have you coped with extra stress over this season? Regular exercise, eating well and sleeping well, taking time out for yourself, your family and your friends can help. Psychologists can help with problem solving, relaxation and calming techniques, communication skills including assertiveness, an help change the way you think about things. So what are your tips for de-stressing?

13.01.2022 Are you online too much? You might need to take more breaks (except for looking at this page of course)! http://www.abc.net.au//thep/stories/2013/12/09/3906736.htm

13.01.2022 Came across this quote this week: "It is the make of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it" (Aristotle). If you are having difficulty with uncomfortable thoughts, and need help managing them so that they don't impact on your daily life and decision making, a psychologist can help.

12.01.2022 A couple of hundred years ago, people were very wary of people who looked different, as travel was so limited. Our world has changed so dramatically, and racism is a significant issue. Can we "cure" it? These people think so... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-23709836

12.01.2022 A big shout out to Host One, who within a 2 minute phone call have my printer set up and going (despite my many struggles to get it happening). Now receipts can be issues on the day and you can walk straight over to Medicare and claim! Thanks guys!

11.01.2022 And another step towards treatment of Alzhiemers and Parkinsons diseases! http://new.huji.ac.il/en/article/18460

11.01.2022 Interesting article. Good news that some teenagers can grow out of anxiety and depression, but it is concerning that Mr Patton believes the disparate representation of females in those whose mental illness continues into adulthood may be due to biology. Surely we need to take into account more than just biology? Let me know what you think. http://www.abc.net.au/worldtoday/content/2013/s3926674.htm

09.01.2022 Trouble with babies and toddlers not sleeping? Struggling with being a mum? Pinky McKay has some great books, presents some great seminars and offers support. She bases her work on well researched evidence, which is sadly commonly lacking in the child sleep arena. http://www.pinkymckay.com/

09.01.2022 This has really interesting implications for therapy - phobias and anxieties may be impacted by the experiences of our genetic matriarchal line. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-25156510?SThisFB

07.01.2022 If your child seems distressed at the idea of putting on weight, it might be worth getting them checked out. Eating disorders are horrendous for the individual, and can start earlier than most people think. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-25403304

07.01.2022 Traditional medical treatment for ADHD and ADD has it drawbacks, but this new treatment looks promising. And the same company are seeing results with treating something similar to Fragile X Syndrome (related to autism) in animals. Exciting. www.algemeiner.com//israeli-start-up-alcobra-develops-new/

07.01.2022 I really hate the "mum blaming" that seems to go on in society, but when you look into it, this study seems to be aligning parental education and poverty levels with neural processing ability in the children... and suggests music to help resolve the issues. http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com//kids-of-less-educated-moms/

06.01.2022 So for those in the industry, and for those who are interested dont forget about the EOFYS Sales!!! - For ACER Psychology - the code is CLIN2014 for 15% at the checkout, - for Australian Academic Press, the code is winter14 for 20% off the total range on the website! 05.01.2022 Looking for assistance in increasing self esteem for teenagers aged 13 to 15? How does FREE sound? Small group setting, for 11 weekly sessions. Contact me if you are interested or have someone you think might be interested.

05.01.2022 I was just writing a reporting mentioning the use of the psychological test the DASS42 to ascertain the impact of a client's stress on daily life. Had a little laugh about the link between the number 42 and life. My husband called me a nerd.....

03.01.2022 Hopefully good news in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. http://www.haaretz.com//israeli-researchers-identify-prote

02.01.2022 My favourite poem from the days of working in the drug and alcohol field - applies to any behaviour change: Autobiography in 5 short chapters. By Portia Nelson. I walk down the street. ... There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. I am lost, I am helpless. It isn't my fault. It takes forever to find a way out. I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don't see it. I fall in again. I can't believe I am in the same place. But it isn't my fault. It still takes a long time to get out. I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it there. I fall in, it's a habit. My eyes are open. I know where I am. It is my fault. I get out immediately. I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it. I walk down another street. ---- Does anyone else have a favourite poem or quote that summarises behaviour change, or has been very meaningful to you in your journey?

01.01.2022 Thanks to Tony White, here is a nice little e-book of information posters on psychology, psychotherapy and counselling for practitioners. http://admin99.files.wordpress.com///poster-vol-1-copy.pdf
