25.01.2022 Hi everyone, I havent written anything for a while so I thought its appropriate that I do now. Ive just returned from Tasmania. I, along with 10 others did the overland trek. The trek is demanding both physically and mentally. I trained for it but had no real idea what I was getting myself in for. The trek was done as a fundraiser for a wonderful charity called Lifechanger and you can read all about Lifechanger on their website. The biggest issue was they had the coldest ...weather fronts go through the region in years and it was freezing. I got through it ok but developed a chest cold which got worse so Ive had to take a couple of days extra off work. To all my patients, my apologies and Im hoping to be back at work very soon. Best regards Ian See more

25.01.2022 Next Pilates class? Any takers??

19.01.2022 Dear All, 9 weeks post total knee replacement and I thought Id let people know that Im back to work full time. Whilst still recovering my full strength in the knee, the joint is doing really well. I have much greater respect for all joint replacement patients now and in some ways feel guilty about perhaps showing less empathy to my patients before my own experience.... I would urge all people contemplating joint replacement to seek the advice of a physiotherapist experienced in the area to provide them with the best possible preparation for their up coming surgery. Im happy to help anyone who may be in this position. Cheers, Ian

13.01.2022 Good morning, We are living in strange and difficult times. I’ve just yesterday made the decision to self isolate and not go into the practice for 2/52. This was not an easy choice for me but after much consultation with family, friends and medical colleagues I thought it was the response to this virus I needed to take. When I’m working I am close to my patients and while LPP has taken every step to safeguard both staff and clients through all our hygiene measures, I have to ...acknowledge that my age and regular patient contact may put me and subsequently my family at risk. I’m feeling fine but I couldn’t bear the thought of bringing this virus home to my family. In recent days we have all seen how Australians have reacted to this virus, from panick buying to she’ll be right mateand I think it’s appropriate we take it more seriously. I also acknowledge that people still wish to carry on their lives as normal and medical experts do state that due to WA’s isolation, our chances of contracting the disease are low. So, a couple of messages regarding Lowther Physiotherapy and Podiatry. First, it’s still open for business. People need hands on therapy so the practice will be manned by Rob Nichols, a highly qualified and skilled physio who is happy to continue working with all our safeguards in place. Second, my Physio son Harry has set up a telehealth video consultation app that people can download and have a face to face session with me where we can discuss their problem, I can then send a set of exercises and advice regarding the management of the injury and hopefully help to keep you mobile. All the patients need to do is ring Bron on 93222210, ask for a Telehealth consultation, she will book it in and I will contact you re downloading the app. This is new to me, I’ve practiced it and it’s pretty cool but it’s still early days so I’m learning on the job. The message is the same for all our clients, look after yourselves and we’ll get through this together. Cheers Ian

13.01.2022 Dear all, Its been a month since my total knee replacement and its slow and steady. It certainly tells you if you do too much but my advice for all future candidates for this operation is consult with someone who has experienced it. Some will have more uplifting stories than others but ultimately its a question of being patient and accepting of your situation. Having treated so many people who have undergone the procedure, I now have a totally different understanding of t...he difficulties faced and more importantly how to assist people on their road to recovery. Its a heck of a road. More updates soon. Regards Ian See more

13.01.2022 Dear all, After 6 weeks post total knee replacement Im going back to work a few hours a day. Thank goodness. Im sorry its taken so long but these ops are a lot more impacting on you than I thought. Once I know how the joint likes me standing on it for 2 or 3 hours or so, I can plan my full return a little better. I guess from all of this, the greatest thing to come of it is the knowledge I now have on the procedure pre and post op.... Theres so much I can pass on and Im looking forward to doing just that. Regards Ian See more

12.01.2022 Hi everyone, I just thought Id post a little news story. I just walked the cape to cape down south. Now admittedly I had to miss a couple of days because of my arthritic knee (damn thing) but it was still an amazing adventure and one I thoroughly recommend. Beautiful coastline and the fellow trekkers were outstanding as they walked for the Lifechanger Foundation to raise funds for Aust. Youth. Cheers

11.01.2022 With the current concerns about COVID-19 we would like to reassure our clients that we are taking all possible measures to ensure the clinic is cleaner than ever before. We are a hands-on clinic so we are taking the necessary steps to remain so by following all best practice measures to ensure we minimise any chances of transmitting the virus in our clinic. All surfaces in the exercise / pilates room, waiting area and physio rooms are being cleaned and disinfected after each ...class/session and towels are being changed regularly throughout the clinic. In addition to this you will most likely smell disinfectant through the clinic which is being used regularly throughout the day as well. We have advised all patients to please be mindful of any cold and flu symptoms and to postpone treatment if any illness should be present. We have provided hand santiser in rooms and at our front desk. Please make sure to make use of this on arrival and departure of the clinic. It is our priority to keep you safe and well during this time. Weve included some links below to help keep you informed. If you have any further concerns we advise you to contact your GP https://www.health.gov.au/healt/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov https://www.who.int//novel-coronavirus-2/advice-for-public Be well, From all of us at Lowther Physiotherapy & Podiatry www.lowtherphysiopod.com.au 08 9322 2210

07.01.2022 Yay! I have finally received my Clinical Pilates Certification. Although I completed all the levels back in 2002/03, DMA Melbourne has evolved over the years and recently added a Certification process. The application of this type of exercise has always been individualised and treatment based, but recent research has enabled Physiotherapists to modify and be more specific when choosing appropriate exercises. While general exercise is of course beneficial, research has shown that individual programs can provide a much greater change in function and movement control. Book a one on one session to find out what its all about. Still rebatable through Private Health Funds as it is considered part of Physiotherapy treatment.

02.01.2022 Well here I am sitting up in my hospital bed following my total knee joint replacement. Starting to feel stronger and moving the knee quite well. It still hurts but its more the instability that makes you really concentrate. After all these years helping people to manage their knees and hips and shoulders post op Im now the patient. Really strange but the staff here at Hollywood have been wonderful in looking after me. Now I just need to concentrate on bearing weight through the leg just like I tell all my patients. Cheers

01.01.2022 Everyones back on deck at Lowther Physio & Podiatry now. Pilates classes are re-commencing but currently only at 12.30-1.30 timeslots on Mondays Wednesdays and Thursdays. Wishing all our fabulous Lowther patients a terrific New Year moving forward.
