Myself and Jennifer Wickman, Vice-President, have been working closely with the Queensland Law Society as we work our way through the COVID-19 pandemic and will be meeting with the QLS President and team next week to be briefed on how our profession is to respond to the pandemic. ... 13.01.2022 DISTRICT COURT CIRCUITS Direct update from QLS - QLS have been advised that the District Court are conducting 3 circuits this week with Judge Far, Judge Chowdhury and Judge Porter. The circuits will be entirely remote, with the judges remaining in Brisbane. The Court is urging practitioners to rise to the tech challenges in circumstances where the judges have made themselves available to hear judge alone trials during the circuits.... 02.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE: Using technology to progress Criminal law matters in the Supreme and District Courts. The Supreme and District Courts are continuing to encoura...ge practitioners to actively consider all matters which might be progressed via judge-alone trial, or via telephone or audio-visual links. Members are encouraged to become familiar with "Chorus Call" for telephone conferences and "Cisco Webex" Teams for video conferences. This week, District Court judges have successfully conducted circuits remotely, hearing multiple matters each day. The Courts are attempting to embrace innovative approaches to conduct court matters as much as possible during this time.
