25.01.2022 This week our teams joined in the 2019 Pride Round. It is always great to be able to support others in our waterpolo community. Thank you to Melbourne Uni for organising this round and we cant wait to join in again next year!

25.01.2022 Week 2 of our Meet the Players series. This week we asked our Memberships Officer Majella and Social Media Coordinator Dante a few quick questions. When/Why did you start playing Watepolo?... Danté: Started playing for school in year 7 and thought it was fun so I decided to keep playing and joining La Trobe late last year Majella: I started playing water polo in 2005, when I was 8 years old and playing in the flippa ball program in Albury. Mum and Dad both played so I was pretty keen to be involved and Mum still helps out running the junior water polo in Albury What are you currently studying? Majella: Im currently in my fifth year of studying chiropractic at RMIT, and I absolutely love it! It's not a club for just La Trobe students! Favourite position to play in Waterpolo? Dante: I wouldn't say it is my favourite but I am best as a goalkeeper and have pretty much only played as a keeper (but I don't mind the occasional swim and goal if that ever happens) What is your favourite Waterpolo moment? Dante: Scoring two goals in one game last year in SL7 playing in goals Majella: My favourite water polo moment was actually the first game I played for LTU! I had been out of the pool for a while and arrived a bit late because I got lost... but when I jumped in the pool at half time the girls made me feel right at home! Steph and I did the best ever couple of quick cross passes to each other, and then she got a spectacular goal! I remember feeling so invigorated and thrilled to be part of a new team

24.01.2022 And just like that, another year of LTU water polo is finished! Weve had a big year with strong results in both our mens and womens teams, and hopefully these results continue to happen next year! Training does continue throughout the break, with pool access between 8-9:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays, however many of us will be taking a well deserved break before jumping into pre season next year! Many thanks from the 2018 outgoing committee for a great year!

22.01.2022 ROUND 7 RESULTS The girls' team turned it around this week, winning against Monash Uni 9 - 7. Whilst our guys teams also put up a good fight, just losing out to the Richmond Tigers 9-10. At the moment both our teams are sitting 4th on the ladder. Well done everyone!

21.01.2022 This week's featured player catch up is with former president and life member Simon Armstrong. We all know Simon loves a chat, so much so that he deserves his own individual post!! When/Why did you start playing Watepolo? I was first introduced to water polo around the age of eight through the Shepparton Swimming Club. It was as part of a regional development program. The water polo program was short lived, but I continued with swimming and stayed with the sport throughout my... teenage years - Perthes Disease at age 10 eliminated the option of land sports. At university my brother got me involved with the water polo club. He coerced me into signing up in O-Week even though I had recently had hip surgery and was instructed not to compete. Once I recovered, I started to play for the club and have been with them ever since. What are studying/working in? I currently work for Water Polo Victoria as the Industry Development Officer. A key component of my role is to look at ways in which to create new participation opportunities, especially in areas that dont have water polo programs. For example, Im currently working with two groups in Ballarat and the Mornington Peninsula to establish new water polo clubs in those regions. I chose to work in water polo because it is an interesting sport with a long and unique history. For example, it is not by coincidence that water polo is and remains the oldest team sport at the Olympics. There are opportunities for water polo to play a much greater role within the Australian sporting landscape than it currently holds, and I want to drive our sport down that path as much as possible during my time. What is your favourite Waterpolo moment? Definitely my favourite moment would have to be when the mens team broke the premiership drought in MSL4 in 2016, for it was much more than a win. Despite being the second oldest university water polo side in Victoria, our club has had its fair share of ups and downs over the last 40 years. I believe that premiership victory gave our mens program a much-needed confidence boost. Since that day our 1st mens team has gone on to win several titles in the division and the club is now consistently fielding a second mens team. Hopefully the club can maintain the momentum and keep growing. It is good to see that La Trobe is fielding two mens and two womens sides this season.

11.01.2022 Meet The Players. This week we asked our President and Vice President, Matt and Niamh to share a little bit about themselves. When/why did you start playing water polo Matt: I started playing when I was 14, but after taking some time off and doing other sports I started playing again in 2015.... Niamh: I started playing a year ago. I joined when I started at La Trobe and came from a swimming and basketball background, so water polo seemed like the perfect melting pot of both. What are you studying/working in? Matt: Im a final year law student here at La Trobe currently working in banking. Niamh: I am currently in my second year of Health Science majoring in Anatomy and Physiology. I am also studying a Diploma of Chinese on the side. Preferred position to play/Favourite moment? Matt: Id say my preferred position to play is in goals. You get the best view of the pool and have a decisive role in the pool! Niamh: Uni Games! It was so much fun to get to travel with a bunch of people from the club. Playing tonnes of new teams and being at the pool all day meant that I had the chance to become even closer to everyone particularly the girls. Not to mention after four straight days of games you really get to cement your skills What advice would you have to new players? Definitely come down and have a try! Even if youre not the greatest swimmer, or have never played before, water polo is a sport for all. Youll get insanely fit and make some amazing friends!

WPV officials and MSAC pool management will advise players and families on any necessary precautions should storm activity disrupt play. Members are urged to take care on the roads in travelling to and from MSAC.

01.01.2022 After a few weeks off learn a little bit about resident powerhouse in the pool Ryan Dessens and Club Treasurer Lauren Foster. When/Why did you start playing Waterpolo? Ryan: I started playing waterpolo in 2016 as I had just moved down to Melbourne and didnt really know anyone had previously swam but wanted to do a team sport, waterpolo ticked all the boxes and getting to go to unigames was a bonus! Lauren: I started playing waterpolo for La Trobe in about July 2017. I play...ed a few games in high school too. I stared playing waterpolo as a way to meet new people; I moved to Melbourne from Wollongong in 2017 and thought it would be a great way to make new friends. What is your favourite food? Ryan: I love anything that contains lots of carbs, rice, pasta, cake etc and luckily waterpolo burns up enough of those carbs that I can eat lots of vanilla mud cake! Lauren: Chicken Parmas and Cadbury crème eggs. What is your favourite Waterpolo moment? Ryan: Either getting to play on the same team as my brother each week or winning last season after drawing then losing in extra time to Ajax in the first round of finals after I gave out a penalty shot on the siren. Lauren: Attending the La Trobe Blues sports dinner last year with the Waterpolo club and the 2018 summer splash comp.
