22.01.2022 7 days of movement for wellbeing is about to launch on the platform and i’m extremely excited to bring forth my short daily workouts to help you feel your best selves... Over the years i have observed not only within myself but within the wider population that we tend to bully ourselves into working out and we have the belief that longer and harder is better... But really is it? I’m not sure and i’m not here to tell you that it isn’t better but i’m here to help you ask thos...e questions about your own movement practice... 21.01.2022 Here is a clip from Day 4 of my movement practice for wellbeing. This workout is upper body strengthening and i start with some rowing and single arm row with rotation to wake up the mid back and spine. This little sequence always feels so good as i open the Pecs with the row and build flexibility in the thorax with the rotation. 20.01.2022 Today I wanted to briefly touch on Self care. This is a tricky subject as there are many moving parts as to why we tend to avoid or resist doing things that really nourish us. A lot of the reasons can be below our level of conscious awareness. For me it has taken me years to understand and be aware of what holds me back looking after myself. Maybe ask yourself some questions. What is holding you back? How does it feel in your body when you feel the urge to resist or avoid...? The usual answers can be I don’t have enough time. I need to do x,y,z etc. Take some time to reflect on what it means for you to have a designated time/s per week for yourself. What needs to change? Does it mean we decrease our time on our phones or social media, Does it mean scheduling an hour each week for your workouts and fiercely defending that time so that you can honour yourself and do something that serves you. It is up to you! I would love to hear what works for you or what you are finding hard. I have never really understood Self care until a became a mother and then I felt the full force of how much I had abandoned myself in the mothering process and how much I never really took the time regularly to do something nourishing for my body and mind. Guilt is what has held me hostage for a long while and still does. It is a work in progress and for me it will probably be a lifelong journey. Go easy on yourself this is big stuff, hard stuff. 19.01.2022 Constructive rest position is one of those exercises I find that us body workers under prescribe because essentially you are doing nothing but letting go and relaxing. For most people we underestimate the power of lying down to rest. The older I get, the more chaotic my life becomes the more I am gravitating to the feeling of rest and surrendering to that moment. There is so much going on physiologically when we go into the constructive rest position and its power lies in ...restoring the body and mind, improving posture naturally and calming your nervous system. The constructive rest position lengthens the psoas or muscles at the front of the hip or pelvis, so if you find you are having a lot of trouble with your psoas than this is an easy way to start to address the tension sitting in the tissues here. This is a lovely way to end your day. If you would like to give the Constructive rest position a little go and home here are a few things I would like you to think about. 1). Find a warm comfortable place 2). Lie down on you mat or carpet flooring (not your bed), with knees bent at right angles and feet on the floor and sit bone width apart. 3). Put a 1.5cm thick book underneath your head and relax your arms by your side. 4). Use no force to change the body structure of your spine 5). Say to yourself ‘I am free to rest’ 6). Allowing the floor to support you and completely give in and surrender to the support of the floor 7). There is nothing to fix of change with your body - turn down the volume of that part of the brain that wants to analyse and judge the position and just be. 8). Encourage nice slow and relaxed breaths. 9). Stay here from anywhere between 10-20 minutes #constructiverest #lizkoch #psoas #psoasrelease #tensionreleaseexercises #tre #pilates #onlinepilates

14.01.2022 I decided to dedicate a short workout on my online series to strong legs and articulated feet. This workout is designed to awaken the muscles of the lower body. After filming this workout i have to say my body felt amazing - very strong and supported even my deep core muscles felt very active. Sometimes we get hooked to the idea that just doing abdominal work is going to help the deep core muscles and don’t get me wrong - yes it helps and can be effective but don’t underestim...ate the humble foot and charging up the legs. This foot exercise is the start of a series of exercises that deeply connects you to your lower body. Our current lifestyle unfortunately has forced us to become more sedentary and spend more time in front of screens.. I urge you to move, walk, lift weights, stretch, be aware of your posture and last but not least learn how to breathe from your diaphragm... 14.01.2022 My summer full body workout 2 just landed on the platform! Another challenging workout with the emphasis on all exercises being a core workout and using the breath to strengthen the diaphragm. I have to be honest and say crunches would have to be my most despised exercise. They lack functionality and don’t give the results most of us are craving in the process and can sometimes have the opposite effect of what we desire and create more dysfunction and weakness in our core.... There are so many ways to load the core beyond a crunch however we can become addicted to the feeling of a tummy burn as being our on only source of strong core. This program is different. By using conscious breath throughout we work the deep abdominal wall to create support and aliveness in the area to support my whole body... 13.01.2022 Day 5 - movement practice for wellbeing primarily focuses on inside thighs and obliques - both stretching and strengthening. I love combining these two areas when working out as they work beautifully together to engage the deep frontal line (thomas myers work). The inner thighs are a powerful area that helps deepen our connection to the core as the fibers interdigitate with the pelvic floor and deep abdominals. 04.01.2022 RUNNING... Today was my first proper run in approximately 15 years, i have had the itch to run since i was pregnant but decided not to for many reasons and since natural birth i have waited until i felt strong enough before i loaded the pelvic floor... Today i explored DIAPHRAGMATIC breathing whilst running. I noticed that i had more aerobic capacity and there was less build up of Lactic Acid in the muscles. I was so surprised at how good i felt even though i am conside...rably out of condition in the aerobic department! I have yet to see or read any research on Diaphragmatic breathing on aerobic capacity but it is a no brainer when you understand what is happening when you adopt that way of breathing. Diaphragmatic breathing is the foundation of my Pilates sessions i encourage you to try it on your next run or strength training session #diaphragmaticbreathing #breath #aerobiccapacity #pilates #wholisticpilates

04.01.2022 Today i thought i would share with you what i am all about. It’s taken me around 15 years to realise that being me and teaching from a place of joy and authenticity is key, so here it goes. Hi. I’m Lucia and when i first started attending Pilates classes i sometimes left the sessions feeling as though i didn't understand the exercise and concepts of the method. So when i started teaching in 2005 i really made an effort to explain to my participants how to do the exercises ...well to get the most out of the movements and the session. A simple adjustment or cue sometimes meant that my clients worked deeper and with more ease. It has been a deep passion of mine to teach my clients how to move more mindfully and to help them leave the sessions not only feeling stretched and worked but to have a deeper understanding of their bodies. 03.01.2022 My new workout has just hit the platform... A short Intermediate abdominal workout with Flow You definitely feel the burn with this one. However, there is one thing i have to admit and that is i don’t like doing too many Flexion based abdominal exercises myself but i know a lot of you do so here it is! But don’t worry there are so many ways i can sneak in abdominal exercises in the workouts. You may not feel them at the time but the next day you will know you have worked them and your body will notice the changes too! 02.01.2022 Day 6 of our movement practice for wellbeing revolves around hip opening and activating the muscles that encourage hip opening. I purposely steer away from hip flexor stretching and move towards opening up the hip capsule and inner thighs. This workout works to alleviate the tension in the front of the pelvis and helps to strengthen the buttocks and hamstrings. 01.01.2022 Did you know my Face to Face Mat Classes returned as of last week, and I have been loving every minute of teaching! My relationship to teaching changed when i started teaching from a place of true authenticity not just what i learnt from a textbook. It is 16 years of collective experiences good and the not so good that has helped me deliver unique cues and ways to look and address the body that goes beyond what you learn in a course. I can say with absolute certainty that tea...ching in this way inspires me and leaves me feeling so much joy. I love watching my clients faces as they leave the space, i wish i could show them the transformation not only in their bodies but in their whole disposition after a session together... They are bright, smiley and connected to themselves. Classes with me are not just sessions to work the body but it’s a mind body connection and an awareness of the relationship between the two!
