25.01.2022 Getting to work early means ripper sunrises

25.01.2022 ARE YOU LOOKING FOR WORK IN AGRICULTURE? The shearing and wool handling industry is facing a labour shortage following the closure of borders to... foreign travellers amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Shearing Contractors Association of Australia secretary Jason Letchford said by spring labour will be a problem. "Currently labour is sufficient as flock numbers are back this autumn due to the drought, but sheep numbers are building up and in spring 30 per cent of the shearers workforce comes from New Zealand. "They come for up to three months and its always been a good interchange," Mr Letchford said. Mr Letchford said the industry was working to have shearing classified as an essential service by the Department of Agriculture. "We would be prepared to shutdown to stop the spread of the virus, but it could only be very short term," he said. "We have a lot of animals lambing in autumn and animals need to be off shears before lambing. "Lamb and mutton also need to be off shears for a period of time before they are processed." Mr Letchford said they were also working on having social distancing guidelines established for the industry. "People will have to forget working for high tallies as shearing wont be as quick and the 1.5 metre distancing rules will be applied, which means only stands 1, 3 and 5 might be in use," he said. "The sheep will get shorn and people will get paid. "We still have our jobs, people have been very good about it and they realise we are in a very fortunate position compared to the rest of the world." See more

22.01.2022 Do sunrises cure coronavirus blues??

22.01.2022 We are classified as an essential agricultural service; so don't fret! We will still be as safe as possible, get those sheep down the portholes, and your wool all sorted

21.01.2022 A nationwide shortage a shearers is causing serious problems for WA's sheep farmers with workers from New Zealand being shut out of the state.

21.01.2022 Most people underestimate the sheer exhaustion that shearing crews endure during the hot days in the sheds. While it may have been 36c outside, it was near 42c+ inside the heat-absorbing corrugated shed. Our crew managed to push through each run during the hotter days earlier this week; using smoko's to rest as best we could. ... Shearers and rousies work bloody hard all year round not to mention on the hotter days. Well done guys, just a little tatse of what's to come in summer

20.01.2022 You guys gonna get that wool or am i?

20.01.2022 At the moment we are still going ahead with planned shearing jobs so dont stress. However if this COVID-19 situation does worsen and the government forces us into full lockdown. (Which the government will class as non-essential shearing) We may have to hold off on shearing untill further notice. ... There is talk of "what happens to us" during this period. If this does happen dont stress as you are all under casual employment. This means you are eligable for a centrelink payment. Although it is not much, at least it will be something to get you through. We generally keep a good distance between us all throughout the day and guys if you are feeling the slightest bit sick please stay home. Dont stress, stay healthy and keep peelin them out P.S. keep in mind to keep your cars/utes full of petrol just in case the petrol stations get shut down. Thanks Lucindale Shearing https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au//people-who-dont-get-
