22.01.2022 I was at the checkout with my food shopping today, and I heard the lady next to me say Im so stupid. I decided to do Christmas in July tonight! and, because I cant help myself I said Its ambitious to pull that off in just a few hours, well done! and she repeated again Im stupid. It doesnt sound stupid to me, sounds like a lot of fun! I just really love Christmas and I cant help myself. Its stupid. Its never stupid to do something you love. ... Let me repeat that Its never stupid to do something you love. Even Tilly still goes swimming in the middle of winter. I dont know if this womxn thought that we, strangers at the shops, or her family, would think having Christmas in July was stupid. But, she shouldnt fucking care. I could tell by her body language, that actually, she was really looking forward to it. She was excited. But, she couldnt let herself own it. I can not stress this enough - own your stuff. Dont ever be afraid to like what you like because youre worried about what other people will think. It is never stupid to do something you love. What I didnt realize at the time is that, when I woke up to my situation, and I wanted and needed to leave it, it was the beginning of me returning to myself. The beginning of me belonging to myself. It was fucking scary. I had all the But Ill be alone forever feelings and all the I cant keep staying in this abusive relationship feelings and just all the feelings. And, I decided that, well, even if it meant I was alone fo...rever, at least I would be happy. At least I would be living a life that belonged to me. I didnt realize it at the time - but I was taking the first step to belong to myself. I was taking the first steps in not holding any of who I am back. To start present my authentic self to the world. And, the journey in learning SO MUCH about who I am. A journey that never ends. Each year I sink deeper into becoming who I am. 13.01.2022 Guess what!? You have everything you need already inside of you. You have all the answers already, but sometimes we are just so disconnected from ourselves that weve forgotten. Sometimes we are so busy seeking answers and validationoutside of ourselves that we neglect our internal world. Our intuition. Our knowing. So instead of looking outside of yourself. I invite you to start looking inwards. And the best way I know how to do this is through journaling. I have found so m...any answers within the pages of my journal. Its also a proven transformational tool, it can actually help you rewire you brain, to train your brain to look internally instead of externally for those answers, to connect you back to your inner knowlege. When I talk about that inner knowing or intuition, you might feel that in your body. You know that saying Trust your gut? Thats what Im talking about. Your body holds so much information. You just gotta tune in. My body tells me if its a fuck yes or a hell no. If its a yes, my whole body moves. I sing. I cant sit still. I get that rush of excitement through my body like a kid at christmas and if I tap in and listen to that I know without any doubt that the answer is yes. On the flip side of that, if its a no my body will tense up. It will get hard and still. There will be no movement and no sound and Ill get that sinking feeling in my gut. If that happens I know its a no. Taking 5 or 10 minutes a day to sit in silence with yourself and connect to the answers that youre looking for. If you have something that is weighing heavily on your heart if you just sit with it and explore the thoughts and feelings that come up for you allow all the thoughts and feelings to come in in that quiet space, within them you will find those answers youre looking for. So I invite you to explore this. Your body knows the answers, you know the answers, all you have to do is tune in and listen.
12.01.2022 How do you know who you really are? Core values! Core values are one of my favourite things to explore with people. They are the values that you carry around with you all the time. They help you to be the person that you want to be in the world. They help to guide your behaviours, and help in decision making.... When you do something that feels icky or uncomfortable it generally means that youre not in congruence with your core values. Some of my core values are: kindness, curiosity and compassion. 11.01.2022 I used to believe that Im not good enough. That Im not pretty enough, or young enough, or rich enough, or healthy enough. That Im not worthy to take up space, and to trust myself, and be kind to myself. If I dont hate on myself, try to cover up my signs of ageing, or cover the psoriasis that has taken up residence on my face, that somehow Im doing it wrong.... I have wasted far too much of my one very short life hating who I am. Trying to change the way I looked (that is the least interesting thing about me.) Trying to make myself smaller, in more ways than one, because my explosive excitement and child like joy is not adult enough. Because I am too much (or was that not enough) and people wont like me. Youre annoying. Change everything about yourself, and you will fit right in. I used to cry myself to sleep every night, wishing I would wake up and be different. I used to only allow myself to eat less than 1000 calories a day, literally starving myself. Im exercise to excess. I would purge. I would binge eat until I literally made myself sick. And then, start the cycle of self loathing all over again. I stayed in an abusive relationship for far too long because who else could ever want me. Its exhausting. And, bullshit. This idea that we somehow have to be all the things, and please all the people is not the way I want to live my life. The idea that I have to change myself to get people to like me, or tolerate less than I deserve because I am not worthy of anything else. These are not things I want to carrying with me. So, I put them down. I refuse to carry other peoples expectations of me. I want you to join my rebellion. So, you can love and accept who you are, rebel against people pleasing, stop comparing yourself to others and confidently be the person you really are. 10.01.2022 Celebrate! Today I graduated as a @bycacademy Beautiful You Coaching Academy Life Coach. When I decided to move into coaching, and I began looking into it more, I came to realise that almost all the coaches, women, businesses that I admire were also Beautiful You graduates. It was a club I knew I wanted to be a part of. ... There was all the resistance. Do I really need more qualifications? Do I have the time to devote to study? Am I good enough? Will people want to work with me? But, I leaned in, and claimed my spot. Reflecting back today, it just reiterates for me again that investing in yourself is never a bad investment. I have learned and grown and formed beautiful relationships over the course of the last 6ish months. You can be and do absolutely anything that you want. Youre never too old, its never too late to change the trajectory of your life. When I left school, doing this work wasnt something that was ever on my radar, and now, I couldnt imagine ever doing anything else. I am so proud to be a member of the BYCA graduates club. 09.01.2022 Do you approach things with openness, curiosity and acceptance? Or are you always caught up in other thoughts? Mindfulness is like purposefully paying attention to the present moment, so you are able to fully engage and connect. Also, being able to approach situations with an open mind, can help to increase resilience, accept changing experiences, enhance awareness, and decreases stress responses Practising mindfulness can bring greater self-awareness and greater self-compass...ion. Your experiences become inherently plesant because you are living in the moment of that experience, thinking of nothing else but what you are doing. Mindfulness can calso help to decrease our emotional contagion. Our brains are amazing, and we have mirror neurons. These neurons fire when we see someone else performing an action, do you yawn when you see someone else yawning? Hello mirror neurons. We emotionally feed off the other people in our immeidate circle, just like yawning, when someone starts laughing, the group tends to start laughing along too. Its contagious. But, so is fear, anger, sadness, shame. And, being able to stay in the present moment helps to act as a kind of buffer to this contagion. To just hold space for the person, be less reactive. 2 easy ways to practice mindfulnes are: Breathing - bring awareness to your breath. Take 3 or 4 big deep belly breaths and pay attention to them. Notice how it helps you to calm down and focus. Grounding - put your bare feet flat on the ground and notice how it feels beneath your feet, really anchor down into your feet and stand for a few moments bringing awarenss to your body. The more you practice bringing yourself into the present moment, and concentrating only on what youre doing, the easier it will become to be more mindful in your every day.
09.01.2022 Do you make space in your life for what makes your heat sing? This book, The Atlas of Monsters and Ghosts, is Tillys favourite book. We randomly picked it up at the library, and ended up buying her a copy of her very own. She knows just about everything about every monster in the book. Her favourite is the Yara-Ma-Yah-Who, which is an Australian Vampire. She can tell you absolutely everything about it. How it hunts, what it looks like, how to beat it. She can lose herself in... Leaning all about it, watching YouTube videos on it, having me read the passage over and over. Tilly loves, as she puts it, spooky things. She always has. And she will spend her time learning more and more, because it makes her heart sing. Do you carve out time for yourself to do what lights you up? Im not talking about work, although thats important too, but what you can lose yourself in for hours doing or learning about? Something you find so incredibly fun? Life is here to be lived, and if you arent spending time doing shit thats fun, that makes you happy, then I strongly suggest you start. Tell me, what is 1 hobby that you can spend all day doing?
08.01.2022 I literally woke up one day and decided I wasn't going to hate my body any longer. I had been learning intuitive eating for a while, I had started following other fat women on social media (tumblr back then!) I had discovered some online shops that sold clothes in my size that we actually cool, and I was starting to wear them. I decided I wanted to be confident. I decided I wanted to quit being at war with my body. I was tired of the mental space it took up. Of battling wit...h my self worth. Believing that I wasn't worthy of self-love. That there was something wrong with me because of the way that I looked. And so, I woke up one morning and decided that was the day I started. 06.01.2022 There was a time in my life where I would cry myself to sleep every night. Wishing that by some miracle I would wake up and be different. That things would be different. I was so afraid of being me. I wanted so desperately for people to like me. To want to be my friend. To think I was cool and worthy of their attention. I felt like I was drowning. Like I was constantly trying to swim to the surface, gasping for air when I got there only to be dragged back down under the wav...es again. I lived my life like this. Trying so hard to be anything other than me. I was so afraid if I was me, I would be unlovable, alone, an outcast. But, there was a spark inside. A light. A tiny flame. I knew that there should be more to life than that. The first time I started down a different path. A path that felt like me. I felt so ashamed, I kept trying to hide. I kept trying to back track. I went back and forth for ages before I took the big deep breath and launched myself forward, past the point of no return. And guess what I found? Love, life, fun, belonging. I found people who liked me, because I was me. I found my worth determined by the size of my body, or my job, or what I liked. I embraced the parts of myself Id previously tried to hard to hide. Things like my childlike joy, explosive excitement, eating chocolate for breakfast. Life actually gets to be fun. Life actually can be whatever you want it to be. It all starts with you. 01.01.2022 Youre afraid to be who you really are because you are worried you wont fit in anywhere. Plus, no one is going to like the real you anyway. You feel like, if you just fade into the background and pretend to agree with everyone, then people wont notice you. You arent really worthy of taking up space anyway. What have you got to offer? Youre not special. Youve got no self-worth, self-confidence or self-esteem. You dont think that people really like you anyway, they...re just being nice. But, you have all these expectations that you need to live up to, and if you dont meet them, you will let people down. Because you are responsible for how others feel, right? You apologise a lot too, and you hate saying no. So, you put yourself in situations that you hate because thats what good girls do. Thats exhausting. And, its bull. It doesnt have to be this way. Screw being the good girl You get to live and breathe disappointing other people to stay true to yourself. You get to hold firm, but loving boundaries, because you are in a lifelong relationship with yourself. Self love should be your baseline setting. For real life. You deserve: to live a full, happy & fun life. to belong to yourself to take care of yourself, deeply. to trust yourself. to know and love who you are, even if you feel afraid. You have exactly one life. Why spend it being anything other than who you are. You were put here for a reason. And it wasnt to forsake who you are for the approval of others. It was to be so authentically you every day. Imagine waking up everyday and feeling empowered. Knowing that you truly belong in the world. Loving and trusting yourself more than ever before. Even now, I can tell that you feel like you are not worthy of this program. That you will never really have the confidence to love who you are. STOP THAT THINKING IMMEDIATELY. See how deeply ingrained in you it is? Everywhere you look, youre being told youre not enough. Its being drummed into you day by day. All the fing shoulds. Loving yourself is a rebellious act.
