22.01.2022 So excited to be playing a set online for Wesfest, presented by one of Melbournes iconic music venues, The Wesley Anne! The Wes has been such an important part of my life as a musician. Some of my first solo gigs were playing a mix of my songs and covers in the front bar back in 2009. This online festival is taking place from 18th-20th Sept, and is a chance to support this special cultural hub of a venue, which has been hard hit by the pandemic. Hope to see you there!... #wesfest #supportlivemusic #loveourvenues #melbournemusicscene #onlinegig
22.01.2022 My last Melbourne show of the year is a little different to the norm...Im going to be part of a playlet inspired by one of my songs, "You are Here"! Written by Eric Gardiner, directed by Ben Pfeiffer and performed by Daniel Frederiksen and George Lingard, and me! Its going to be a special night of locally created theatre and music. Hope to see you there!
21.01.2022 I cant hold back my anger, sadness and despair at the fires sweeping through eastern Australia, and at our Prime Ministers seeming lack of genuine empathy for those who are suffering. The videos of our prime minister forcing people to shake hands with him in Cobargo made me feel physically ill. Whole communities have been burned out. Ive played music in many of these towns. Its a shock to read about the NSW South Coast, Mallacoota and other parts of Gippsland burning, hav...ing experienced the beauty and hospitality of these towns many times over the years. In the words of a friend of mine, I hope that the anger felt by so many people will lead to change. Here in central Victoria, were keeping a close eye on the Vic emergency app. I know that my feelings are nothing compared to those of people directly affected by the fires. To my Australian friends, stay safe. See more
21.01.2022 Hey, whadoya think of my broad bean earrings? Thinking about wearing them at the Malmsbury Fayre this Sunday ;) Ill be playing a short set from about 1.15pm, and Im so excited to see Evan Davies and Mischa Herman bust out some tunes afterwards. Lots of great acts on the program, looks like its gonna be a lovely hang at the Malmsbury Botanic gardens! Ive been taking time out to get back into my songwriting. Looking forward to sharing some new ones with you all soon. ... Some more gigs are in the pipeline for next year, but in the meantime Im excited to announce Ill be performing at Newstead Live Music Festival 2020 with duo project Lucy Wise & Stephen Taberner!

14.01.2022 The word Slow used to have so many unconscious derogatory meanings for me. Unproductive, or lacking, lagging behind, stupid. I used to turn my nose up at slowness, because somehow along the way I learned that going slowly went against all the things I had been taught about how I should live my life. A silver lining of this strange year, for me, has been that slowness is actually a really really important part of my life. Going slowly has helped me to learn how to listen to... my heart more closely, allowing me to make better decisions. And its also helping me to be more present with others, which has really been helping me to feel more connected and less anxious. Its also been helping me to let go of my perceived need to always push myself to achieve. And its got me doing things Id been neglecting, like gardening and cooking and playing my guitar. I realise that going slowly may not be the right thing or even possible for everyone at the moment. But its been a beautiful change for me that Im really thankful for. I hope that you are all finding your rhythm through these uncertain times. Love, Lucy
14.01.2022 Wow. Thank you SO much to all who came to my livestream gig last night, to all who made donations and for your comments and messages. I am feeling overwhelmed, grateful and brimming with love. Thank you to Evan & Mischa for contributing their beautiful tune set. It was sad they couldnt perform live, but hopefully we can do another show in a few weeks once this lockdown blows over! A huge thanks to Mischa Herman, who made the whole event possible with his technical wizardry, ...and played exquisite accordion and whistle on a couple of the songs. It was my first performance in nearly 6 months, so I was (as you could probably tell!) very nervous, and couldnt shake the wobbliness. These new songs bring up strong feelings for me. It meant so much that so many of you were there through performing some of these songs in their finished form for the first time. What a silver lining this is, being able to come together across the mysterious landscape of the internet. I hope we can do it again soon, and that you are all staying well and safe. Sending love to you all, Lucy xo PS. The concert is saved on my youtube channel if you missed it!
14.01.2022 Ive been writing most days for the last few months, so Ive decided to take a bit of a leap and create a blog at my new website! My first couple of posts are up. Theyre in a reflective style, figuring out how to be in the world. I hope that sharing these reflections will help others to connect with their own feelings, and to share their feelings with others if they need to. Ill be including updates on my new album, links to new songs, videos, and I might even slip in some ...writings on some of my favourite music by other artists. Theres a link to a little treat at the end of my most recent post ;) Link in my About section, and hope you are all well, x

10.01.2022 My latest blog post is about wildness, our attitudes towards it, and how they may need to change in order for us to create a kinder, more humane and resilient humanity. Thank you for your comments, feedback and encouragement on the blog so far. Im really enjoying the process of writing these longer form prose pieces - something I havent done much of since uni! Mainly, they are a place where I can stop to reflect a little deeper on the things I read, hear and see, and I hope... these reflections can help create space for others to do the same in their own lives. I would love to hear your comments or suggestions! You can pop me a comment or an email at my website. Love, Lucy
09.01.2022 Teaching music has been a wonderful focus to have through these unusual, ground-shaky times. There are some places open for my online lessons in guitar, ukulele, singing and Appalachian dulcimer. I received this lovely testimonial from a student a few weeks ago: My lessons with Lucy Wise are my joy bolt each week. Already, in just a few weeks, my voice is stronger, richer and possessing more power than ever before. Jane S, current student... If youre thinking about learning music or even wanting to just nut out how you might go about it, Id love to hear from you. More info about my teaching including pricing can be found at my website: www.lucywise.com.au/lessons - and you can contact me there at my contact page too. Hope you are all staying well. X Lucy

06.01.2022 Spent the afternoon self-recording vocals for a song I wrote almost exactly a year ago, about shelling broadbeans and settling into a new town. What a strange year its been, but all the same Ive been feeling restless, wanting spring to fully unfurl. Today was a lovely unfurling, and good weather for singing, with the sun streaming in the window of the music room. After Id gotten a few takes of the vocals, I chatted to my mum on the phone a little while, hung up and hit record again, and got an even better take than all the others! Note to self: remember to call someone you love in the middle of a recording session, it might just turn things around in unexpected ways!
05.01.2022 In the last two weeks Ive been recording songs for my next album (!!). Stoked to be recording at home with the very brilliant Mischa Herman, its the first time weve worked in this context in a few years. Im pretty excited! More soon, love to you all and hope youre staying safe and well. ... Barry Toranto
