25.01.2022 Is there anything more annoying than a rogue fly?! As flies are this months #pestofthemonth I thought it might be time to share some prevention tips with you!! It’s important to preface this by saying that flies are notoriously hard creatures to deter. They are so prevalent, especially in summer!! But! Try and implement the below tips and tricks and see if they help keep these pests away!... Make sure you have fly screens installed on your windows and doors AND check them each spring for holes, tears or other damage and repair ASAP. Also check your home for gaps, holes or cracks as flies are super versatile insects and will find a way in! Make sure your rubbish bins and bags are all sealed. Not only is this a good source but also a good breeding area for flies. Remove all pet waste. Pet waste is a big attractant to flies. And if they are near your home it doesn’t take much to get them in your home! Remove all organic waste. Clean up gardens, remove dropped or rotting fruits and vegetables and cover your compost. Again, these are not only food sources but great breeding areas. If you are an essential oil lover, eucalyptus, peppermint and lemongrass essential oils have been shown to deter these pesky creatures. And! They smell AMAZING!! And... as always, if all else fails, give us a call! Tell us, what tip were you most surprised about? Don’t forget to save this post for future help and share with your friends who might also be needing some tips on detering these pesky creatures!

24.01.2022 Do you know how to spot a ground-dwelling spider hole? Well.... it’s not always that easy. Many different creatures can call your yard home and it can definitely be tricky to tell one creatures entry way from another’s.... In the case of this months #pestofthemonth - The Funnel Web, their home is often characterised by a funnel shaped web that lines the entrance to their burrow with multiple trip-lines out to capture prey. But other ground-dwelling spiders may make little covers for their burrows or be happy living underneath rocks or in logs. If you are concerned that you have ground-dwelling spiders - Give us a call! We are happy to have a look around and see if that is the case! In the event you do have ground dwelling spiders and you want to eradicate them, the good news is our general pest spray will do the job for you we will just need to treat your lawn instead of or in addition to the normal areas of the house we would treat. With us coming into breeding season for Funnel Webs, get some peace of mind and give us a call today!! Know someone concerned about spiders? Feel free to share or tag them below!

23.01.2022 Are you sharing your home with Australia’s Deadliest Spider?! . . . . . . . . . It’s October which means it’s time for a new #pestofthemonth and this month it’s all about the Funnel Web Spider.... These guys are just the poster child for scariest spider, right?! From the bulkiness of their bodies, those giant fangs and the fact that the Sydney Funnel Web Spider has been responsible for 13 recorded deaths(!) it is no wonder it is an icon of fear and curiosity for most of us. Now it is important to note that since the introduction of an antivenom in 1981 we have not had any recorded deaths from these critters. BUT! They can make you incredibly sick and it’s important that you are aware of where they are likely to frequent and how to avoid or remove them. The Sydney Funnel Web Spider can be found from Newcastle to Nowra. They prefer moist leafy areas and burrow in moist, cool, sheltered habitats. So think, under rocks, logs, crevices, rot holes and even under discarded outdoor toys! They prefer rockeries and dense shrubberies over lawns but still can be found in open areas. Often we see an increase in their activity after rain due to their burrows flooding. As these guys are vulnerable to drying out they are more likely to be found during periods of high humidity. With reports that we are likely to experience a higher rainfall than usual this summer, be on the look out for these guys! Have you encountered Sydney’s Funnel Web Spider before? Tell us below!!

19.01.2022 Ever been soooo under pressure you just had no idea how to get by?! Yes? I know we aren’t alone! The last few months have been tough!... With Luke injured it has been a constant juggle of children and my day/night job and balancing jobs with resting Luke’s knee. They say it takes a village to raise kids but I think it also takes a village to keep a small business alive sometimes! So... I wanted to say a big THANK YOU to each and every one of you that have entertained the kids whilst we have worked (or slept off a night shift), cooked us meals, checked in and so much more! We are so grateful to have such amazing friends that think nothing of taking our kids for a few hours or helping us in the business. I especially want to that Lisa and Peter from @help2ucomau These guys are also managing a local business and 5 kids but have happily helped out whenever possible. Peter has even been out on a few jobs with Luke to help him out when he is unable to manoeuvre around or needs assistance. We honestly would have had to turn down much appreciated work if it wasn’t for this awesome individual. So.... THANK YOU!!! Do you have a special someone in your life? Tag them below and let them know you appreciate them!!

17.01.2022 With all this wet weather, have you had an invasion of Millipedes?! These unnerving creatures aren’t actually as bad as they look. Typically they live in damp garden beds playing their part in recycling by breaking down dead plant material. They typically are happy here BUT! sometimes they will wander into your home and are also more than happy to live in any damp sub-floors or cardboard boxes.... Although these guys aren’t particularly harmful, they can release pungent excretions which can stain skin, clothes, furniture and irritate the eyes! Stay tuned this month to hear more about this #pestofthemonth Tell us below.... have you had millipedes in your house?

16.01.2022 We have been inundated with calls about this flying pest.... Any ideas? If you guessed Flying Ants you would be........ WRONG! These guys are Alates! They are a life stage of the TERMITE. These winged termites are most active from October to March and their sole purpose is to hunt out a mate of the opposite sex, find some rotted wood, tree or tree stump and BREED. Sure, this is hugely concerning for homeowners who are suddenly swarmed by alates. But, the swarm alone cannot do any damage to your home. Alates are poor flyers though and often don’t make more than a few metres from where they started so although the Alate themselves aren’t going to cause damage it does mean their is an active infestation not too far away. So... what to do?! Well, remove and dispose of all rotten wood and then make sure you have removed all firewood and other timber away from the foundations of your home. And then... give us a callso we can come out and do a proper inspection. Tell us... have you experienced these guys before?

14.01.2022 Who is ready for another edition of FUN FACT FRIDAY?! This weeks edition is dedicated to our #pestofthemonth the Funnel Web Spider!!... A bite from a Funnel Web Spider can kill a human after just 15 minutes from shutting down of the nervous system. Funnel Web’s or Atracidae are a part of the mygalomorph family of spiders. They are native to Australia There are up to 35 different types of Funnel Web Spider, only 6 thankfully are deadly to humans. The Sydney Funnel Web has long spinnerets. Their fangs are large and powerful, they are capable of penetrating fingernails and soft shoes! Unlike trapdoor spiders, Funnel Webs do not build lids to their burrows. Only Western Australia and the Northern Territory are the only places in Australia that don’t have Funnel Webs. Funnel Webs are the most medically significant groups of spiders in the world and are considered the most deadly in terms of cases and venom toxicity. The majority of fatal bites received were from the male Funnel Web Since the creation of an antivenom in 1981, there have been no deaths from Funnel Web bite! Did this one creep you out?! Do you have some cool facts to add?? Tell us below!

Although, Cooper works for a pest control company, you won’t find him anywhere near the bugs.Bugs are definitely not his friends and nothing causes him more stress than being chased by his little brother carrying an insect! 03.01.2022 It’s FUN FACT FRIDAY!! And in honour of this months #pestofthemonth it’s all about THE FLY!! There are about 30,000 species of fly in Australia!... Mosquitos are a breed of fly?! Adult house flies normally live 15-25 days but may live longer in cooler climates They lay hundreds and hundreds of eggs and their larvae (maggots) require organic material to develop In most fly species, the females are the ones that annoy us the most as they are starving for protein to lay their eggs. The sweat on our bodies is a great source! Their brains and nervous system are evolved to avoid predators. By the time we have seen the fly and tried to swat it the fly has already seen, reacted and got away! Blow flies are easily distinguished from bush flies by the loud buzzing of their wings! Flies are only active during sunlight hours and are normally most annoying mid-morning. Did any of these facts surprise you?! Let us know below what facts you want to hear about next!!!
