24.01.2022 GARDEN GRIPES How to manage PESTS in an ORGANIC garden? There are a number of strategies available to organic gardeners, but for best results it pays to use multiple options as part of an INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT plan. Here's an outline of the most accessible methods for the home gardener:... MANUAL REMOVAL - the most labour intensive, but a good place to start with small infestations, also an opportunity to observe closely in and around your plants. Regular OBSERVATION is key to managing pests BEFORE numbers get out of control ORGANIC PESTICIDES - there are a number of easy-to-use organic sprays available for a range of insect and mite pests. Apply them in a TARGETED fashion to avoid reducing BIODIVERSITY across your garden as a whole BAITED TRAPS - these can be a completely targeted approach, tailored to a SPECIFIC problem pest. Using pheromone or food type baits, these clever inventions can be a surprisingly SIMPLE, EFFECTIVE, and worthwhile INVESTMENT in your garden We offer consultation packages to suit any size garden, starting from $99. 24.01.2022 SNEAKY SNAPSHOT Cross Country Kubota 'Tis the season to RETAIN! Jon and the team have been busy with our KUBOTA MINI-EXCAVATOR this past month, digging, shifting, placing and finishing off a variety of large scale retaining walls. Our excavator will EASILY FIT down the side access of most residential buildings, with the total outside dimensions coming UNDER 1M WIDE.... But don't let its size fool you! It PUNCHES WELL ABOVE ITS WEIGHT and combined with the skills of our EXPERIENCED TEAM, there are very few situations it won't handle (under the ocean, maybe? ). Got a tough landscaping project in a tricky spot? Get in touch with our team here: https://lookinguplandscapes.com.au/contact-page.html

22.01.2022 SNEAKY SNAPSHOT Busy as a bee The flowers are out in our nursery, and so are the pollinators! We all know the European honey bee, but have you seen any others in your patch lately? Native 'honey bag' bees, blue banded bees and other solitary bees all feed on and harvest pollen from a wide range of our favourite native and introduced fruiting plants - pollinating them along the way so we can enjoy our own harvest ... We can help you support a healthy pollinator population in your backyard - get in touch to book one of our horticultural consultation packages. 22.01.2022 GARDEN GRIPES Frosty! Are you prepared for late frosts in the garden? ... That sparkling blanket of white is pleasing to the eye, frustrating on your windscreen and DEADLY for fresh new growth on your plants In the coastal belt between Sydney and Newcastle, most plants can be grown quite successfully, including many that are not well adapted to frosts. Throw in a mix of UNSEASONAL WEATHER in recent months and we tend to see a lot of new tender growth appearing before the last cold snap of winter has passed. A frost or two at this time can cause SERIOUS DAMAGE to even the most established plants and trees in the garden. So how can you minimise the damage and PROTECT your precious plants? - Where possible, an OVERNIGHT COVERING with an old blanket, canvas or similar can work wonders, trapping warmer air around the plant so it can make it through the night. - Some biodegradable POLYMER-BASED SPRAYS (such as 'DroughtShield') are available to help increase resistance to light frosts. Simply spray on all exposed parts of the plant before frosts arrive. - Longer term, BALANCED NUTRITION can be key to supporting the natural mechanisms within a plant which promote frost-hardiness. Deficiencies in potassium in particular can undermine these, leaving even frost tolerant plants more susceptible than they need be. And if you wake up to see that dreaded sparkling white early in the morning? Get some warm clothes on and brave the cold so you can HOSE YOUR PLANTS down where necessary, from top to bottom. Melting the frost slowly this way before the sun gets to it should go a long way to reducing the damage done to your plants. Need help frost-proofing your garden? 17.01.2022 2020 has been a challenging year, but we are so proud of team who have stayed creative, flexible, resilient and courageous. What's more four of our team took the added brave step to show support for their fellow bro's and 'grow a Mo for Movember'. When asked 'why the Mo?' by our son, the answer was "to remind men to look after themselves". What a timely reminder Movember has been, not just to look after ourselves but to look out for each other. It has been such a privilege getting behind this worthy cause. 'Leave no man behind'.

17.01.2022 GARDEN GRIPES How to amend soil pH in the garden? Soil pH levels are a key factor affecting which nutrients are available to your plants. The wrong soil pH for the varieties planted in your garden may mean certain required nutrients are not available to the plants, while others might be available at very high (toxic) concentrations.... Test soil pH level with a high quality soil test kit. To raise your soil pH (decrease acidity), treat with garden lime or dolomite. Liquid lime products are particularly effective and easy to use. To lower your soil pH (increase acidity), treat with liquid sulphur. We can test, diagnose and address your garden soil issues, with our Garden Refresh packages starting at $249. 17.01.2022 Proud of this project our team worked really hard to complete recently! We love working with natural Sandstone Bushrock. It is endemic to this area, as well as being a Quarry by-product. This means less transport emissions, less manufacturing emissions, returning materials back into the Landscape where they originally came from. At Looking Up Landscapes we are always conscious of how we can #treadlightly on the Landscape. We can't wait to see the plants settle into their new home, returning this embankment back to a beautiful rainforest bush nook, just like those that occur naturally in this area. #landscapesyoucanlivein #lookinguplandscapes #naturalbushgardens #lakemacquariensw

12.01.2022 Check out the weed treatment underneath this Liquidambar... the weeds are thoroughly treated but the tree above could not be happier. If this grass had been treated with Glyphosate, a shallow-rooting tree like the Liquidambar would have been stressed and yellowing. Our Weed Technics machine provides a 100% chemical-free method of treating weeds. Using only Saturated Steam to treat weeds on contact, Weed Technics is completely safe around pets, children, vulnerable persons and sensitive gardens. To find out more about #goinggreen for you weed treatment call or email us for a product flier.
