24.01.2022 Lots of lanterns, music, food stalls and a big bonfire by Russell Island Rural Fire Service. Light Up My Island Lantern Parade is snowballing (), with interest from the mainland from experienced lantern paraders and a drumming band too. It will be the biggest and best night on the islands you’ll have all winter. So save the date. 22 AUGUST 2020. Brought to you at Kennedy Farm by RICARTS.

19.01.2022 Like every other community event on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, the Light Up My Island Lantern Parade will not go ahead as scheduled this year. But rest assured, as soon as it is safe to do so, the organising team will be back in action with lantern workshops for a parade in winter solstice 2021.

15.01.2022 SAVE THE DATE: Light Up My Island (LUMI) lantern parade on the longest night of the year - winter solstice 20 June 2020. In the meantime, these very popular regular workshops are being held so every islander can have their own lantern for the parade. Next workshop 14 March.

15.01.2022 My yin yang lanten

15.01.2022 One of the ways we decorate paper lanterns at the workshops is by lifting and applying tissue paper pictures. But you can paint, apply braid, sequins and tassels. the only limit is your imagination. come and try it so you can have a lantern at the LUMI parade on winter solstice Saturday, 20 June 2020.

14.01.2022 Would you like your workplace or community group to have your own special lantern for the parade? Maybe you can. We can run a workshop to help your team make and/or paint a larger unique lantern that will make your business or group stand out on the night. Have fun with your workmates or friends. If you would like to create a bigger lantern to represent your group, contact LUMI on Messenger with your contact details and we will set something up. LUMI (Light Up My Island) Lantern Parade on 22 August at Kennedy Farm on Russell Island. Organised by RICARTS for the Southern Moreton Bay Islands.

11.01.2022 TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT WE WOULD HAVE HAD OUR LANTERN PARADE. Do you have a lantern? Light it tonight, photograph it and post it here for everyone to enjoy.

07.01.2022 Have you missed out on attending a lantern making workshop? Let us know in the comments below or by fb messenger and if there are enough people (and we can find somewhere to have it) we will run another one. $10 includes lantern with LED candle.

02.01.2022 Due to recent COVID changes and restrictions, sadly, we have been required to postpone the Lantern Parade once again. It has been decided to hold the Lantern Parade for Winter Solstice 2021. Our lantern parade has been struck by the effects of COVID on a number of fronts at once. First, a sudden statewide ban by the Rural Fire Service on their officers attending any ... community event to reduce their Covid risk means we are unable to hold our bonfire, a crucial contributer to the success of the event. Second, Queensland Health has now declared that the Redlands are a place in Queensland which has a potentially at higher risk of COVID-19 transmission. At this stage it only means increased restrictions in the aged care system, however we can't be too careful in these times. Third, our visitors from the mainland strawberry festival and drumming band have been prevented from coming by Covid risk management requirements. Fourth, we are at risk of having many more than 100 people attending, a COVID no-no, meaning we would have to deny access to potentially many islanders. We would prefer to wait until all who wold like to attend will be able to. Taken together this would knock the character, joy de vivre and pizzazz from our lantern parade. So RICARTS has taken the difficult decision NOT to hold the event on 22 August. THE GOOD NEWS This is only a postponement, but as it is our second postponement this year due to the ramifications of the pandemic and regulations, we have decided to wait until winter solstice in June next year. EVEN MORE GOOD NEWS Provided Queensland doesn’t go into harder COVID restrictions, the postponement gives us more time to run more workshops, build some bigger lanterns and make our lantern parade the beautiful butterfly we know it can be. In the meantime, let’s have a virtual parade. Light up your lantern at home, take a photo and post it on the LUMI Lantern Parade page This will give us all a taste of the fabulous event to come and we will still be able to see the beautiful lanterns everyone is creating in the meantime. 01.01.2022 Last Saturday another 20 people from all the islands completed lanterns at our workshop. Loads of creativity going on. So many different styles.

01.01.2022 RICARTS has passed management of the Lantern Parade to BIMSARA.
