23.01.2022 For every action, theres an equal and opposite reaction. There will be a greater and opposite reaction once were all able to leave our homes again. And the businesses that are going to benefit most from this will be the ones that stayed in the game. The ones that kept advertising, the ones that kept communicating and the ones that kept calling. Its all good if you need to pull back on your ad budget (we have), but dont go to 0. If you need to reduce your email communications, dont go to 0. If you need to reduce resources, do so but not to 0. When the snapback occurs (and it will), you need to make sure that youre there. You gotta stay in the game.
23.01.2022 4 weeks til Melbourne lockdown ends (thats only 40,320 minutes to go).
23.01.2022 Youre lucky to be able to run your own business and deserve to be able to do it. But as a business owner, its important to remember that loving your craft isnt a substitute for making intelligent business decisions. Once you decide to make your passion your business, you take on responsibilities to your clients, your customers, families and employees. One of the biggest responsibilities is the need to generate a profit above and beyond the salary you pay yourself. On...ly then can you build the strength to create many forms of possibilities for yourself and everyone involved in your business. #smallbusinessmd #designspiration6 #instagramveteran #graphicalexcellence #brandstrategyanddesign #brandidentitydesignagency #brandstrategydesign #freelancerlogodesigner #fornewstartups #soloprenuer #businessessupportingbusinesses #smallbusinessloans #newcompany #buildabrand #localbusinessowners #smallbusinessconsultant #supportsmallbusinessowners #smallbusinessaustralia #melbournesmallbusiness #australiansmallbusiness #instabusiness #newbusiness #smallbusiness #onlinebranding #brandimage #creativebranding #mylogo #brandcreator #businesspeople #strategist See more
22.01.2022 How many times have you chosen to eat at another restaurant because it was almost empty (back when we were allowed to go out?). Most people prefer to wait for a table at a crowded restaurant rather than eat in an empty one because we think that if the place was really good, thered be a line out the door. Thats the power of credentials (and herd mentality). Its your customers that hold the key to your brands reputation, so its important to do everything you can to keep t...hem happy. As you build your brand, dont overlook the credentials you can use to strengthen your business. These can come in the form of founded claims, accreditations, social proof, glowing customer testimonials or being known as a leader in your category (hard but doable!). If you want to get people lining up for your products or services, talk to us today to see how we can help you to build and strengthen your image through brand design.
20.01.2022 Its been a blast shopping at Coles, but were ready to explore other places and see some friendly faces (in a safe and conscientious manner, ofc). 20.01.2022 Shit times indeed, but you have the opportunity to use hardship to improve. It all comes down to the story you tell yourself about what difficulties and challenges are.
19.01.2022 Collecting followers is cool. Connecting with followers is cooler. Theres great value in building your digital community of fans and followers. As you build your brand and following, remember to also engage them, have conversations with them, and absolutely respond if they comment on your post. Social platforms are essentially gatherings, and people are there to interact. 18.01.2022 Stay safe and use protection.
17.01.2022 Netflix recently released a new installment of the Dirty John series - Dirty John 2: The Betty Broderick Story. But this has left viewers confused. Talks on social media have shown that many are questioning why the new season was named Dirty John, despite being focused on an entirely new story to the first. One person wrote: "The problem is: they named the first season Dirty John based on [Dirty John]... [The second series] doesnt fit the first one: different characters, dif...ferent story but nearly the same name?!... Just stop at the first one." Similar to branding, using the equity of your existing brand on a different product not only confuses your customer, but also dilutes the power of the first brand. Rather than giving separate brands a family look or identity, make each brand as different and distinct as possible. The Facebook company does this well with its brands which include WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook - all of them having a unique individual brand with its own identity. Lexus is another great example, manufactured by Toyota but operating under a different name and brand to distinguish Toyotas luxury vehicle offering. Branding is a split second judgement and your customers arent going to spend their time trying to "get" your brand if its confusing. Keep it simple and think like a customer. What will they see? What will they think? Is it clear-cut or does it cause confusion? When thinking of using your core brand on a different offering or category, consider if its going to strengthen or weaken your brand and whether its appropriate to create a new brand instead. Need help creating more clarity for your business? We dont know everything, but we do know a few things about branding. DM us today for a chat about how we can help you create a clearer and stronger brand that instantly clicks with your customers.
15.01.2022 Yesterday was R U OK? day. Today is a reminder that you dont need to wait to be asked. If you need help, dont be afraid to ask. It isnt a sign of weakness but rather, its strength in showing that you have the courage to admit that you need a hand. Reach out to your friends or loved ones if you need to. Or DM me for a chat.... 15.01.2022 Memento Mori translates to "remember you must die." Sounds a bit grim, but it isnt meant to be morbid or promote fear. Rather, it should inspire, motivate and clarify. Its a reminder that your time on earth isnt forever. So keep this reminder with you. Dont waste your time on trivial, pointless things. Dont take for granted the time you have. 15.01.2022 Dont hit the brakes on marketing spend. The impact of the current global crisis is frightening and can put even the most seasoned business owners into paralysis. As tempting as it is to cut spending, saving in the short-term could end up being a losing play in the long run. Studies of the last six recessions have shown that companies that dont cut back on their marketing spend get greater increases in profit. They did better in every year and had doubled their sales year on... year, while sales barely went up 50 percent for companies that cut their marketing (source: Ogilvy On Advertising). As the volume of marketing in your industry drops, theres the opportunity to stand out with your product or service with less noise to compete with. If you have the opportunity to invest, you can now pick up market share at a fraction of the cost compared to a few months ago. Think of marketing as a production cost, rather than a selling cost. Take the steps now to be in a better position as the economy stabilises and your consumer behaviour returns to something closer to normal. But also remember to be mindful of what you put out there. When tough economic times hit, peoples lives are turned upside down and changed forever, and this is especially true during this pandemic. Lead with empathy and integrity, rather than thinking about how you can exploit and profit off a crisis (see: gym equipment retailers that have 10xd their prices). What does your audience value in the changing economy and how you can bring them value? How is your audience responding to the downturn and how can you develop messaging and campaigns that will resonate with them? People will remember who helped them, but theyll also remember who preyed on fear and insecurity to get ahead. The impact of a recession means you might need to cut expenses and reduce your marketing budget. While there are many things that are out of your control, the good news is that you can still use specific marketing strategies to survive tough times, to help others and to also come out stronger in the end.
15.01.2022 Is your brand investing in long-term content? News and time-critical content are excellent ways to get instant engagement and attract a lot of views. As you continue investing in content marketing, also consider mixing it with evergreen content. Like the evergreen tree that retains its green leaves all year round, evergreen content doesnt go out of date. It centers around a topic thats always relevant to your audience, regardless of the current news cycle or season. "How to... lose weight" is a great example of an evergreen topic. The fundamentals of losing weight dont change much over time. Contrast that with "Australian federal election 2019", a topic that would have gotten critical engagement at the time, but not so much today. Evergreen content also comes in the form of customer testimonials, company histories, case studies, how-tos, FAQs and instructional videos. Useful content such as these will give you the greatest ROI for your brand. Thats not to say never to post relevant and current content. To create a solid content marketing strategy, have a healthy mix of timely and evergreen content. By combining these forms, you can take advantage of the benefits that both have to offer, allowing your brand to enjoy the strongest content marketing strategy possible.

13.01.2022 There are thousands of books competing to find a reader at a bookstore. And its not unusual to see restaurants, banks or clothing stores operating right next to each other. Is it smart to open a business right next to your competitors? Is it bad if you have competitors in your market? The best thing that happened to Coca-Cola was Pepsi. Choice stimulates demand. Being surrounded by competition gives customers choice. When theres no choice, customers get suspicious. "Does th...e category have flaws?" "Is the price too high?" "Why would I buy a brand if I dont have another brand to compare it with?" Whether its consumer goods, consulting or a tech business, the solution to having competitors is to welcome them! Because that changes the question from, "should I buy?" to "which should I buy?" But are your customers choosing your brand over your competition? If theyre looking elsewhere, it might be time to consider rebranding your business. Talk to us today to see how we can help you build awareness and customer loyalty through the power of branding.
12.01.2022 A year from now... Will you remember todays emergency? Will the thing that youre stressing about have been hardly worth the time you put into it? Better question: What could you do today that would matter a year from now?
12.01.2022 Its not about making sure that nothing gets spilled or knocked over in the process. Mistakes will happen. Missteps will occur. Just dont let your own perfectionism get in the way of progress (says the guy who wont launch his site until each page is perfect).
12.01.2022 The Design Management Institute ran a study to measure the return on design investment where it matters - in stock values. Over a 10-year period, the results showed that a $10,000 investment in design yielded 211% returns greater than the same investment in the S&P500. (source: https://www.dmi.org/page/DesignValue) We might be biased here, but the answer is that its a resounding yes that design pays off. Creating a great customer experience involves great design. Its t...he only way to create a vibrant set of touchpoints that allow your customers to fully engage with your brand. But dont take it from us. Think about the last time you interacted with a product or service and how much their design accounted for your purchasing decision. 10.01.2022 Generally speaking, a buyer goes through 3 stages: 1. Awareness of a problem or need 2. Consideration of the solution to the problem or need 3. Decision about what to do to solve that problem or need ... In the past, sales reps helped with the buyers journey. But now, the buyers journey starts with Google or a friends recommendation. Consumer behaviour has changed - with a massive shift going from selling to buying. So where does that leave your business? The biggest takeaway is that the control is now in the grip of the buyer. With all the information they need at their fingertips, theyre able to do their own research to a level that replaces the need to pitch your product or service to them. So all thats left now is your brand. Instead of selling, look to build trust with your customers. Provide them with useful, relevant information thats easy to find and work to build positive perceptions of your business in their mind. The selling now lies in your brand. Do you agree or disagree with this? Let us know what you think.
10.01.2022 Are you getting bored with your brand colours, your logo, your tone of voice or your messaging? Then chances are that youre doing it right. Volvo first started the safety angle of their cars in the 1940s. BMW has been "the ultimate driving machine" since the 70s (way before I was born!). Brand building is boring work - work that takes decades, not months or even years to build. The thing that works best is absolute consistency over an extended period of time (that is if yo...uve set up your brand position well, to begin with). Rome wasnt built in a day. Neither are brands. Keep going. Want to talk branding? Shoot me a DM.

08.01.2022 In the early 1900s, products were sold based on the products features. A few decades later, marketers stepped their game up and realised it was the benefits that the consumers wanted. Fast forward to 1975, the differentiator between products was the experience of using the product. Today, marketers are fully invested in a mix of consumer experience, features and benefits. Its gone from what the product has, to what it does, to how it makes people feel. But where to from he...re? The trends havent stopped. Your customers still want the features, benefits and the experience that your brand offers. But a new dawn has started - the "meaning economy". Its why many brands today are ditching plastics for paper, because consumers care about the environment. Theyre talking about WHO they employ, because consumers care about equality and diversity. Theyre donating a portion of their profits, because consumers care about philanthropy. All of which the consumer asks themselves: "If I buy this brand, what does that make me?" Were now living in an age where we can always be on, always connected. This means that shoppers are becoming increasingly conscious, buying things that define them or become part of their identity and lifestyle. The challenge now for your brand is to become part of the movement to offer meaning to them at deeper and even more emotional levels. What are you doing for your brand today to create a more meaningful connection with your audience? #posterdesign #posterart #designeveryday #branding #meaningeconomy #motivation #webdesign #growyourbusiness #creativebusiness #brandidentity #businesstips #successtips #smallbusinessmarketing #marketing #businessbranding #brandingtips #homebasedbusiness #smallbusiness #businesstraining #businessstrategy #identitydesign #entrepreneurship #designeducation #newbusiness #businessconsultant

06.01.2022 Did the word "Nikon" mean anything before it became known for high-quality photography gear? Did thinking of the word "Facebook" always bring up associations tied with social media? And what does "Google" even mean? Like a new logo, a brand name is also an empty vessel waiting to be filled with meaning through branding. So it doesnt always have to literally spell out what your company does, because its how you go about interacting with your audience and the image you carve ...out that will create the perceptions and meaning of your name (quick-fire tips - it helps a lot to have a name thats easy to say, memorable, short and catchy!). And incase you were wondering, the name "Google" came from a misspelling of the word "googol", the number 1 followed by 100 zeros, which was picked to signify that the search engine was intended to give huge quantities of information. The more you know!
05.01.2022 Harness clout by using branding as a way to stand out, engage, and to get more sales. Your customers are willing to pay a premium for your product or service if your brand is powerful. If your business isnt getting your audiences attention, DM us now to see how we can help you build a strong and enduring brand.
04.01.2022 Experimentation is important for science. It also matters in business. The old saying goes that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. But plans are sometimes based on faulty assumptions. To succeed in todays dynamic market, you have to change your approach from planning to experimenting. A good marketer will have a campaign with a plan of attack, but a great marketer will come in with a plan and change it up as they go. They know that it takes a lot of testing to find th...e right audience, the right strategy, the right copy and the right image. Like marketing, your product, service or business model is best seen as an experiment. Put things out quickly and cheaply so you can take in vast amounts of reaction, knowledge and insight from the audience. Armed with real-time feedback, you can use the learnings to bring you closer to the truth of your brand and business - allowing you to cut out the stuff that doesnt work and to double down on what does. 04.01.2022 Rolex is the worlds best-known and best-selling brand of luxury watches. Their success is due in part to the quality of their craftsmanship, but its not the only thing. Building a product with quality parts is important. But other factors, like "perceived quality", also determine your brands success in the marketplace. The intangible qualities of your brand exist in the mind of your customer. By building a powerful perception of quality, youre able to build a powerful bra...nd. Here are 3 ways, among many other ways, to build perceived quality: 1. Narrow your focus Niche down and be a specialist rather than a generalist. Specialists are seen as having higher quality or more expertise than a generalist. It may or may not be the case that a cardiologist knows more about the heart than a GP, but the perception is true. 2. Have a quality name A quality name is easy to pronounce, recognise and memorise. It also makes it fast and easy for customers to navigate the choice of a brand, product, or service. 3. Have a higher price Higher premiums get more attention than lower prices. A lower price makes the customer feel that your product must somehow be inferior compared to the competition. Even if youve sourced the finest ingredients for your product, theres a perception that it cant be as good as a competitors product. Quality in your product or service matters, but so does building quality into your brand. Although it takes a lot of time and effort to do so, its by taking steps like these that can help to leverage your brands perception.
04.01.2022 If youre reading this, youre the 38% who stopped to read this post. And heres where we cut straight to the point before the engagement numbers continue to drop: you only have 2 seconds (if that) to get your audiences attention on Facebook. People are impatient so every second on mobile matters. For this reason, finding a way to be seen amongst all the noise is essential to successfully build your brand on social. So what can you do to liven up your content and bring your... audience to a screeching halt on your feed? Heres 3 things to know about getting your audiences attention. 1. The three brains: head, heart, and gut Understand the 3 brains we all have. Grabbing attention follows a similar progression in the brain. First, you want to cause people to instinctively look or react. Second, you want to get them emotionally involved. And third, you want to then help them process and reason with the info. 2. Know which tactics that get the most attention They are: danger, food, sex, faces, stories and movement. Peoples attention tends to related to things that instinctively helped us to survive (note: if youre going to post porn on your page, dont blame us if you get banned). 3. Time The average attention time spent on a post is 3-10 seconds (yes, were really pushing it here). Know what you can reasonably expect someone to pay attention to on your post. Social media is saturated. Its saturated with everything from generic business posts to cat videos (not a bad thing IMO). But you can cut through the noise by keeping the above in mind and knowing how to keep your audience engaged and grow your following.
