25.01.2022 Steroids are often used to control spikes in lupus disease activity. But the best daily steroid dose for lupus can change because while they provide short-term relief from the symptoms of lupus, they also offer long-term risks such as organ damage. Tapering is a process that uses these medications to bring down lupus symptoms to a manageable level, and then reduces the dose down to a very low amount.... Strategic dosing is an important part of managing lupus, and a new study has shown that successful steroid tapering of prednisone has increased since 2000. See more

23.01.2022 T Cells, the Immune System, and Lupus Research has identified that regulating T cells (an important components of the immune system) could reduce the symptoms of lupus. T cells are a special type of white blood cells - which work to protect the body by seeking out and destroying threats to the body.... However sometimes they will mistake healthy cells as threats and turn on them, and it's the regulatory cells in the immune system that keeps these rogue T cells from causing too much damage. But with autoimmune conditions such as lupus, these regulatory cells are faulty, allowing T cells to go rogue and attack the body, causing the symptoms of lupus. Studies have shown benefits of altering T cells through treatment with CAR (Chimeric Antigen Receptor) therapy. This therapy that involves genetically engineered T cells shows a lot of promise. 19.01.2022 Immunosuppressive drugs & Lupus Immunosuppressive drugs (as the name states) reduce the activity of the immune system. They help to control severe cases of lupus that don't respond to other medications.... The type of medication prescribed depends on other medications being taken, symptoms, and co-morbid conditions. A few medications used more commonly for lupus include: Cyclophosphamide Methotrexate Azathioprine Mycophenolate One issue associated with these medications, is that they also leave the body susceptible to infection...meaning that people who take these medications need to take additional precautions in their everyday life to stay healthy.
