25.01.2022 Hi everyone, my computer is in the shop getting fixed so havent checked in for a while. Hoping to get it back within the week.

25.01.2022 The ONLY reason GMOs are being pushed onto us is because Monsanto wants to control the planets food supply from "seed to plate" to quote their mission statement; which you can find on their website. Please dont be fooled by anyone telling you GM foods are for your benefit.

24.01.2022 Consider the following from a book Im currently reading: "Because the food we eat is not very nutritious we rely on supplements and vitamins to supply those nutrients. Our sense of taste has become less sensitive so strong flavours and sauces are used to keep the food from tasting bland." "Animals know instinctively what constitutes a complete diet for them. When people became isolated from nature they lost that instinctive ability and came to rely on their intellect to figu...re out what they should eat. Today there are diets that are based on philosophy, religious beliefs, theories of human evolution, ethical considerations, and any number of other things. Many people rely on Western nutritional science, which promotes the idea that good health is maintained through a well-balanced diet consisting of a set amount of protein, starch, fat, minerals and vitamins. It does not take into account the fact that each person is different, that they live in different climates, and that food is naturally available only during certain seasons." "Following this scientific diet means that a full array of foods must always be available. To provide food that is out of season means it either needs to be grown in artificial conditions or brought from far away. Food grown in unnatural conditions, however, is often tasteless and contains fewer nutrients than food grown in healthy, well-balanced soil." The above quotes are taken from the book: "One Straw Revolutionary, the Philosophy and Work of Masanobu Fukuoka", by Larry Korn. When was the last meal you ate where your body actually felt great afterwards? I bet if you really think on it there are times youve either felt: bloated, full but still wanting more, even felt lethargic or uncomfortable afterwards. How often do you smell food and start salivating because you know how great its going to taste (I dont mean because of the sauces or the high salt, sugar, or fat content). What Im referring to here is whole foods prepared without any pre-packaged processed ingredients. How long has it been since you tasted fruit which had a zing and really made your mouth water, like a nice sweet juicy home grown orange or apple in season? Compare a lemon from home vs from the supermarket chain stores. Im sure youve experienced fruit without much flavour or juice when it should be bursting with sweet, tasty juice. If I could encourage you to plant a fruit tree in the back yard or start a little veggie patch so you start to reconnect with flavour, improve your health, reduce your costs at the grocery store or at the chemist then Im a happy man. Please share your experience here to help encourage others to reconnect with nature and health. My mission is to help people see that little changes can make a large difference to their lives. Much love, and good growing. Dave.

24.01.2022 If you have an area of soil which needs improving, has been exposed to chemicals, is depleted of organic matter, contains problem weeds and pests then do the following:

24.01.2022 Spring is on its way already, so dont let those gardening jobs get away from you. Winter hasnt finished yet but Im seeing buds starting to move on rose bushes, cannas are starting to send up new shoots and Spring flower shoots are also starting to move. It will be interesting to see if we have early warm weather or if winter kickes her tail.... As the cloud cover starts to dissipate we will start to see frost so be aware you may need to do some preparation in the veggie garden to protect sensitive crops and seedlings. Now is the time to prune deciduous trees while its easy to see branch structure and blossoms. Wiper snip and cut down tall weeds to reduce the number of weed seeds produced and youll have less weeding to do later. Its also time to start thinking about applying organic material to the soil in preparation for this years spring and summer crops. Not too early as you want to allow the sun to warm the soil a bit first to wake up soil microbes as they help feed growing plants. You also want to think about what you want to grow in the veggie patch and plant seeds ready to transplant come spring, being careful to protect them from frost and hungry snails and insects. Of course Lush Gardening Services is here to help get those jobs done for you if you dont have the time or energy, just click on the call button at the top of the page to find out more. Happy growing. Kind regards, Dave.

23.01.2022 Some light reading.

23.01.2022 I believe that not only are our gardens for our own benefit, they benefit our local wildlife and environment. By choosing plants which benefit the local wildlife we get the best of both worlds, and our enjoyment increases so much more for knowing we are helping insects, birds, reptiles, etc.

23.01.2022 I cant remember if Ive already posted this article about the destructive power of glyphosate and why you need to stop using it; plus the types of foods, which contain this toxic substance, to avoid buying at the supermarket. Because its such an important human and soil health issue Im posting it here again. If you have any kind of degenerative disease such as celiac, chrones, ADD, ADHD, gout, etc, etc then this article is a must read. Please share this article with as many as you can: only together can we stop the use of this horrendous chemical.

22.01.2022 Interesting results for one of the experiments I have going in my garden: A little over 12 months ago I decided to compare results of chemical fed, organic fed and my specially mixed soil/ organic nutrient blend. The results confirmed what I already knew but they may surprise you. The chemical fed plants (in "Premium" potting mix) are on the left, the standard available organic potting mix is top right and my mix is bottom right. Please read further comments below for the results.

22.01.2022 Just a little something which made me smile

22.01.2022 Please see my latest blog on why you should avoid spraying weeds with chemicals. http://www.lushgardeningservices.com.au//weeds-why-sprayin

20.01.2022 Happy first day of spring everyone!

20.01.2022 Applying fertiliser is only required if your soil is lacking minerals or the plants you grow are not adapted to your local soil conditions! No one goes to fertilise the Forrest. The Forrest has everything it needs in the soil, & the plants which grow there are perfectly adapted to those conditions.... So if your plants are suffering from mineral deficiencies or pests the only permanent solution is to test the soil and add the minerals required to bring the soil mineral levels into balance. This is the only long term fix for gardening problems caused by unbalanced soil. Adding bottled chemical fertilisers doesnt fix an unbalanced soil. Once youve done balanced your soil you wont need to fertilise again. How great would it be to be able to let your plants take care of themselves? Think how much time, money and effort this will save you in the years to come. Or put differently: everything else is a waste of your time, money and effort because it is a bandaid, short term fix forcing you to go back to the shop and spend more money. Achieving good soil doesnt need to be difficult nor should it be a guessing game. Please read my post: "Soils Aint Soils" on my website: www.lushgardeningservices.com.au for more detail on what makes for a healthy soil. Good healthy, living soil creates healthy, vibrant, tasty, nutrient rich, pest and disease resistant plants which thrive in all conditions. Which scenario would you like: 1. Chasing your tail but never achieving a truely healthy garden with ongoing investment of your time, money, and effort. Or 2. Invest a bit more effort upfront to build great soil and then relax while your garden rewards you for years and years to come for very little further input? Please feel free to ask questions here or contact me for a quote if you would like help building you garden soil for top quality results at your place.

20.01.2022 Looks like we will have another 4-6 weeks of Indian summer so finally some good weather for our tomatoes and the like. I have noticed its been very misty and humid in the mornings up here in the Adelaide Hills so keep an eye out for powdery mildew. A spray of 10% milk in water works well with regular applications and resist wetting leaves when watering your veggies at the end of the day.

18.01.2022 Indigenous Micro Organisms: IMO, they are organisms that have lived in harmony with the soil in a particular region, who have contributed to establishing the environment that they live in. IMO are the main protagonists that have brought vigor to the land in the region, and the inhabitants that have through time proliferated in diversity. IMO have the ability to withstand any weather conditions, and given the right environment, will perform their function with great vitality. ...They are also easily adaptable to various changes in their living conditions. In order to practically apply natural farming, it is most important to achieve the right soil conditions, i.e. invigorating the life of the soil. For this, the optimal living environment for microbes and other small animals must be provided to live and prosper. It is the goal of natural farming to revitalise the earth that is growing increasingly desolate by reinstating these organisms back to their original design. See more

17.01.2022 How amazing is this?

16.01.2022 If you are in any doubt about the negative claims about the safety of Round Up this article explains all the dangers, and why we absolutely must eliminate this biocide chemical. Not only is it a non selective herbicide, it kills all soil life too. It accumulates in the soil, it is already in our water and food supply and it kills off the microbes in our gut which are essential for our immune systems and also nutrient absorption. It is linked to the vast majority of our degenerative diseases which have gained prominence in the last 15-20 years. The sooner we stop using this chemical the sooner your health and your childrens health will return.

16.01.2022 Predator insects are such an important part of natures way of keeping things in balance. Chemicals kill the beneficials allowing the pests free reign to take over. Please stop using chemicals, not just in the garden but also in the home.

16.01.2022 http://www.lushgardeningservices.com.au//bokashi_compostin. Here is my first blog post on my new website. So much better than trying to post it all here. Im moving into the digital age baby.

15.01.2022 Here is a major Australian company joining with the growing multitude of people around the world who are trying to help stop the systematic poisoning of our planet and the issues it causes to human and animal health.

13.01.2022 Some pretty stunning photography and info on what wasps actually do and why theyre so important in the garden.

13.01.2022 The processes which lead to health or disease in soil and human beings is scarily similar: Disease or Health are based on the interaction of nutrients and microbes. Both the soil and humans rely heavily on microbes to make nutrients available to plants and also your body.... If either is missing or limited then the host (ie the soil or your body) is weakened which leads to illness, stress, degenerative disease and general poor health. Chemicals kill off these microbes we are so dependently reliant on for our health. This includes chlorine and fluoride in our water, toothpaste, chemical filled soaps/ detergents, pesticide sprays on your food, preservatives/ artificial flavours and colours in processed foods, chemical fertilisers and sprays used in agriculture. We are totally surrounded by them. It is also why the planets bee populations are dying off at an alarming rate. This is why Im so passionate about what I do: I have experienced ill health as a result of poor choices and also my time in the navy exposed to many different toxic and carcinogenic chemicals. I would like to show you how to reverse this situation in both your garden soil and also your own personal health. Its easier than you think, and like me, Im sure you just need someone to show you the alternatives. Ive done the research and I dont use or make suggestions unless Ive used them myself and had good results.

11.01.2022 A must watch for all Australians

09.01.2022 For those who are interested, this months Organic Gardener magazine (Mar/April 2019) has a very interesting article on what is happening with the fight against Monsanto/Bayers lies concerning the safety of Roundup and the lies and deceit the company use to cover up the truth. Very interesting indeed!

08.01.2022 Hi everyone, can I ask for your opinions? Im researching how to make plant extracts, tinctures and ferments to use as organic and natural plant fertilisers, tonics and pest sprays. Its all about harnessing the anti fungal, growth stimulating, and pest repellant properties of herbs and other plants to improve overall plant health and natural pest management, at the same time supporting beneficial soil life and attracting predator insects. If these were available to buy woul...d they be of any interest to you? My goal is to create a line of products which would replace their chemically derived counterparts to give organically conscious gardeners a real alternative. Thanks in advance for any feed back you can give. See more

08.01.2022 Well it looks like winter is going to shake her tail over the next few weeks with some good rain fall to come, but that isnt stopping the lawn from growing quickly or the flowers (& weeds for that matter) from emerging. Now is the time to think about planting out some Spring veggies, some of the brassicas and green leafy veg can be sown, beans, beetroot of course, carrots, sweet corn (another fave), & herbs. Just be wary of frost, and move seedling trays to a warm window si...ll or the greenhouse if you have one, if frost is expected. Its still too early for tomato, zucchini , cucumbers and pumpkins in the hills area but popping seeds in a warm area so theyre a good size and ready to plant out when soil temps start to rise is a great idea. I cant wait to taste fresh home grown tomatoes again with fresh basil and a bit of feta cheese, or just some Himalayan salt. Yumo. Also keep an eye out for hungry slugs and snails: sprinkle crushed egg shells or diatomaceous earth around seedlings, copper tape can be wrapped around pots to discourage these seedling thieves. If you grind your own coffee use the spent grounds around young seedlings, it gives slugs and snails a heart attack from the caffeine! Just be aware it must be reapplied if it rains. The other bonus is it helps fertilise the soil. Whats your favourite veggie to grow?

08.01.2022 I often see gardening advice about combating plant mineral deficiencies, pest & disease problems. The trouble with these remedies are all the same: theyre focused on treating the symptoms and rarely do they ever address the cause. Eliminate the cause and the problems disappear all by themselves. This is exactly what my gardening service does for you. For a little extra attention upfront I can help save you the ongoing cost, time and effort for your edible garden, & the payo...ff is your health will benefit greatly too. Please check out my blogs on soil health, and other topics on my website: lushgardeningservices.com.au for more. Happy gardening. See more

08.01.2022 Chemical agriculture is killing our planet. The only way were going to make it stop is to choose which companies we give our dollars to when we buy things. We ultimately have the power to make this stop. Dont expect our governments to stop it by making laws which will effectively cut off their flow of tax dollars, that equates to political suicide.

06.01.2022 I just love nature.

06.01.2022 If youre like most avid gardeners youll be getting excited about the weather and soil warming up so you can start to plant veggies which like warmer conditions, like tomatoes. Weve had some warmer days in the low 20s followed by some quite heavy rain events, especially up here in the Adelaide Hills area. So its still a little early to plant out our tomatoes, and zucchinis, but a lot of our favorite herbs can be planted out now. Make sure to check the plant labels for mor...e specific planting times and add a few weeks to a month if you live in the hills region. Be aware of white cabbage butterfly as numbers can quickly explode; prepare some netting which is a physical barrier (no chemicals) or purchase some BT spray from your local gardening shop. BT (Baccilus thuringiensis) is a naturally occurring soil microbe which prevents caterpillars of the cabbage moth and white butterfly from digesting their food, effectively starving them, and very effectively reducing numbers of adults to lay eggs in the future. There is no withholding period which means you can consume the product without fear of damaging your body or the environment. This is my message: it is becoming easier to treat gardening problems without chemicals, and the more we use these products and the less we purchase nasty chemicals the healthier our planet is which means our health is improved too. How we choose to spend our money determines what companies supply us with. We determine the course of the health of the planet by what we buy, not by waiting endlessly for government policy and law change. Happy gardening.

06.01.2022 Do you know the difference between: Biodegradable, degradable, and compostable? It may mean you make a different choice for the better.

03.01.2022 1 cup of raw kale has just 33 calories yet contains 684% of vitamin K, 134% vitamin C, 206% vitamin A, plus iron, folate, omega-3s, magnesium, calcium, fiber, and 2 grams of protein. However if your soil mineral levels are lacking or out of whack then these numbers will be dramatically reduced. Many times we are told that foods contain loads of vitamins and minerals but that depends entirely on how good your soil is. Brazil nuts are renown for containing selenium (which is ab...sent in most Australian soils). This means that if Brazil nuts were grown here they wouldnt contain selenium. Essentially what Im saying is this: your home grown veggies and fruit can only be as nutritious and tasty as your soil conditions allow. Lush Gardening Services is dedicated to helping you achieve the best soil nutrient levels so your home grown produce is the best it can be for your health and satisfaction. 03.01.2022 Australia used to be called "The Lucky Country" because we produced everything we needed, we were self-sufficient from food to industry. Now were losing our precious farmland to housing and mining, never to be returned. Can we still call ourselves "Lucky" without our ability to produce our own food?

03.01.2022 Hi everyone, sorry for my long FB absence, Ive been busy doing things in the background such as experimenting with making natural: plant tonics, pest and disease treatments, etc which are all derived from home grown plant materials. After I am happy with the results and I am confident with how they will help you in your garden I will start to make them available to you all. Like anything good its going to take a bit to see how they perform in most situations. I will post here as I progress and I will also write them up in my blog on the lushgardeningservices.com.au website.

01.01.2022 Interesting...anything which will help get rid of monsanto is a bonus in my book.

01.01.2022 More info on why you dont want to apply glyphosate based weed sprays (the major active ingredient in Roundup): Glyphosate locks up metal nutrients so they cannot be used. For example: Chromium is needed to activate insulin. A lack of chromium is the second major cause of insulin resistance, ie type 2 diabetes.... Cobalt is needed to make vitamin B12 that is needed for cell division and growth. Lack of cobalt can result in infertility, miscarriage, anemia and Alzheimers. Magnesium, manganese, zinc and other essential nutrients are needed for a healthy immune system. Fluorosilicic acid (from tap water) removes iodine from your body. Glyphosate prevents its replacement. Without sufficient iodine you lose your ability to fight cancer, almost all those with cancer are deficient in iodine. http://useugenics.FarTooMuch.Info http://noGMO.FarTooMuch.Info See more
