25.01.2022 Aged Care #FAQs How do I choose the right aged care provider? When it comes to aged care everyone has a different situation. That’s why researching can make all the difference when choosing what’s right for you! It’s important to consider things like staffing arrangements and training for special care services (like Dementia care). As well as checking the frequency of access to doctors or any communication facilities for your friends and family.... When selecting residential aged care, we recommend talking to your friends, family and health professionals before contacting the federal government service My Aged Care.
24.01.2022 If you cant get to the Ekka, well then well bring the show to you! Tabeel aged care in Laidley celebrates Ekka with visits from animals and deliveries of showbag favourites such as Bertie Beetle. Dagwood dogs and strawberry icecreams were a hit too!

24.01.2022 A new collaboration between Keystone Disability Centre at Woodridge and their friends at Popeye Disability in Japan is brewing up via Zoom. Our client Lee loves the kitchen, mixing and making. So when composer Guy Webster (pictured) was brought on board to collaborate with him and his friends, Lee knew exactly the type of performance he wanted to do (mixing up mischief in the kitchen of course) to a soundtrack of pop/RnB. The result will be a film called Confusion Inclusion For You, starring Lee, Emma, Linda, Matthew and Andre and their Japanese friends. The film will be ready early next year and we’ll be delighted to share it with you!

17.01.2022 Today is Good Friday. Why would Christians call the day 'good' when Jesus Christ was declared a criminal and died on a cross? Well, it's because of the paradox... that because of Jesus' death each of us can live, freely. May you know God’s goodness today Read the story (John 18:1-19:42) https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/

06.01.2022 Today is the beginning of Queensland Seniors Week! This year the theme is Celebrating Qld Seniors. In keeping with the theme we will be sharing some of our residents stories as we celebrate their lives. From designing peanut ploughs to a regular cartooning spot in the regions newest newspaper, Tony Turtons,CV illustrates decades of deep resourcefulness. With wife of 68 years, Sheila, Tony lives at Orana Retirement Living in Kingaroy. Ive been cartooning for people all ...my life, the 90 year old said. Now this new paper started up after they were thrown out of a job and the local paper shut down. I offered a weekly cartoon and now here we are. Whimsical and good-natured frustration at a changing world feature in the cartoons being printed in the Burnett Today newspaper. I do anything thats happening at the moment. If its cold weather itll be three cockatoos shivering and wondering wheres this global warming thing theyre all talking about?. Tony and Sheilah moved to a small town near Dalby after migrating to Australia in 1961 from Zimbabwe (then called Rhodesia). African artworks and other reminders of their origins pepper the couples home. Ive got a $100 trillion dollar note from Zimbabwe which is worth about one Australian dollar, he laments about his birthplace. As an engineer making equipment for Queensland agriculturists, Tony has forged a few one-offs, such as specialised peanut ploughs. Farmers are very inventive, he explained. People ask can you make it? and usually you can but you dont make any money until youve made at least six. The two-week sea journey to Australia is memorable. Fremantle was a wonderful port, he said. Then Melbourne was a little moth-eaten but lovely, Sydney even more so. And then (arriving in Brisbane at) Bretts Wharf was a just a corrugated iron shed. That was it, that was Brisbane.
06.01.2022 With a little help from the wonders of technology our residents are still able to remain close to their loved ones as visitor restrictions continue in Greater Brisbane. St Paul’s residents Wendy and Bernie are pictured here trying Zoom on the iPad to see how simple it is to stay in touch with family. We are looking forward to welcoming families and friends back to our restricted services in person soon.

05.01.2022 Have you heard about Tabeels Hopeland Hall? This beautifully restored 1900s building was moved to the grounds at Tabeel at Laidley from the town of Hopeland near Chinchilla in 2017. 02.01.2022 Inclusivity and access are key words in the disability and aged care space. While access can be ensured with the right built environment, being truly inclusive can be more challenging. Our Creative Programs Advisor Clare Apelt is a dance facilitator and has learnt that being curious and playful with aged care residents or disability clients can kick start their creative journeys. Clare recently told Ausdance Queensland magazine IN/FORM she believes ‘in the power of creativity... and dance to transform and connect.’ To achieve real participation by a person with a disability of some sort (as a facilitator) I need to be curious and consult with them about what they want from the activity and any specific needs they might have, she says. When aged care residents or disability clients begin work on a project, Clare starts with the premise of curiosity and playfulness to build trust and collaboration. My work is process driven and often I don’t know what the end product will look like, she says. I can work with the ideas, interests and strengths of my participants. This can be scary at times, but I have learned to trust myself and the process, allowing the work to emerge.’’ The Lutheran Services’ Creative Programs team conduct on-site activities every day with our 1200 aged care and disability clients. But the team has also enabled clients to stage dance performances at theatres in Brisbane and Logan in the past few years. During 2019 and 2020 there were several successful performances. 'If Only I Could' was staged at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts with professional dancers working with residents from our Zion and Tabeel aged care services. Uncomfortable issues such as dementia and aged care were explored in creative ways with Alice in Trinderland, at Trinder Park in conjunction with students from the local state high school. Collaboration with other disability groups has proved a powerful combination when clients from Keystone Centre at Logan hosted and performed with multi-ability dancers from Mo-Ya-Co in Nagoya, Japan. Our Keystone clients were then lucky enough to perform in Japan with them as well, before the pandemic saw restrictions on travel. This collaboration is continuing to be fruitful with our clients now performing with their Japanese colleagues via Zoom.
