25.01.2022 Do you use any of these? I often use the 2nd & 4th ones. To me they feel so comforting and softening. Our hands hold so much healing energy, if we use them to hold ourselves with love, they can be very powerful. During this time its important to be present, grounded, calm and stay connected to ourselves, to our vessels for this life - our bodies. These movements offer a chance for you to be with you, holding, loving and nurturing yourself for just a moment Posted @withre...gram @power_within_healing Safe, consented touch is such an intricate part of the human experience! For those of us still distancing- its really hard right now to NOT have that hug from a loved one, shoulder rub from a friend, or even massage from a trusted professional, etc . It could not be a better time to utilize the regulatory effects on the nervous system via self-holding and touch. . I realized when I was a young dancer suffering from performance anxiety, that placing my hands on my heart and breathing into that touch in a moment of being triggered... allowed me to stay present. And that staying present helped me perform better... but that was really just the tip of the iceberg. . While learning about SE and Levines trauma work during my Masters, I recognized this holding and touch was a moment of somatic compassion, mindfulness, and self-love. It was a moment of holding of my inner child with gentleness and patience... whether before or while she felt that she was being judged, or wasnt good enough to be seen or heard. . This practice is simple and powerful. The body is always talking, we just have to slow down enough to listen. . Im so appreciative of @transcending_trauma_with_yoga and the artist @embody.create.heal for this gorgeous original post and image. Thank you ! See more

23.01.2022 What an amazing first day of training yesterday! Its so wonderful to be back in person with this incredible group of humans learning to teach Chair Yoga & I cant wait to get back in there today to spend time with them again Yesterday we learned about adapting asanas, language, self massage, and many other things. Plus we shared some of our stories with each other which is one of my favourite parts of the weekend. Everyone comes to our training for different reasons and th...rough different experiences. There are always some connections, but one thing is always a stand out common thread between us all. We all share the same intention: making sure that nobody misses out on practising yoga for any reason. Ever! This makes me personally so excited because I know and Ive seen Yoga change (Id go as far as to say save) many lives - and by learning how to make Yoga accessible and inclusive we are giving people an opportunity to practice who never before imagined they could. Its such a special gift to be able to share with others and Im so grateful for each and every human who has taken the time to learn how to do this. Maybe one day... we will never again hear the words: I cant do yoga. That would be a dream come true See more

23.01.2022 Yes! We have been discussing this term lately in our teacher trainings as we talk about our use of language and the power of our words. And believe me this phrase is powerful: it has the power to hurt, discourage, belittle and literally frighten people away from Yoga. Also I believe theres not even such a thing as one "fullest expression. Every expression of a shape is unique and valid & every individual has their own expression of that shape - it is all YOGA! And, even ...more so,its Yoga when we are not concerned about simply performing ONE particular shape but honouring ourselves and our own practice as being absolutely perfect for us, as individuals, just the way it is! Posted @withregram The Intrepid Hearts Ive been thinking a lot about how our yoga spaces can create a culture of exclusion that is rooted in oppression. One of the ways this can show up is when a yoga teacher cues "the full expression of the pose." If you tell a room of yoga students that something is more challenging or offer them the opportunity "to advance" in a posture, a majority of them will try to do it. Weve been raised in a system that teaches us that more is better and to push beyond our limits. It centers asana and ignores the depth and breadth of a yoga practice. "The full expression of the pose" implies that other variations are less than, and only the "full expression" is real yoga. Its rooted in perfectionism and ignores the fact that everyones body is different and doesnt leave room for exploration, which I believe is at the heart of any asana practice. As yoga teachers, it is our job to ensure that anyone who steps foot into our class feels seen and valued precisely as they are. Instead of teaching in a binary that sees one form as more advanced than another, offer different options out of sequential order and encourage your students to be mindful of sensations in their body to find an option that feels empowering to them. Continue investing in your education, focusing on learning opportunities that teach about equity, accessibility, inclusivity, and honoring the roots of yoga. We owe it to our students to do better. 22.01.2022 Does anyone else love the way that opening the side body feels? I feel lately this is something my body has been calling for and thoroughly appreciating. So today I wanted to share one of my favourite ways to practice a side body movement Crescent Moon is a variation incorporating an Upward Salute (Urdhva Hastasana) and a side bend. It stretches and opens the sides of the body while improving spinal mobility and core body strength, especially in those obliques (side waist m...uscles). It helps with balance and concentration. Crescent moon also strengthens the legs, improves circulation and energizes the entire body Next time you do a side stretch or after you try this movement take a moment to sit in sitting mountain and just feel into the torso. Maybe youll feel like theres so much more awake and like theres space and freedom in the ribs and the breath like I do, or maybe youll feel something different! Id love to know of your experience below. Try it out and let me know! See more

19.01.2022 Monday Mudra. Do you use Mudra in your practice? A Mudra is a gesture (often practiced with the hands) that can create or affect the flow of energy within the body. They can have an influence on the body and the mind This is PRAN MUDRA also known as Life Mudra. It is connected with our base or root chakra and stimulates energy in the pelvic floor. This can be used to reduce fatigue or nervousness and help raise our vitality. It is also associated with feelings of confidence..., courage and stability. It can also aid with eye challenges and improve clarity of thought. Touching the tips of the fingers also supports balance of the Prana (our life force) within. Personally, I feel more balanced and calmer when I practice this one To practice Sit or lie comfortably for a few moments, allowing the body and mind to relax Join your thumb tip to the tips of your ring and little (pinkie) fingers, the index and middle fingers extended Hold gently for anywhere between 5-30 mins Let me know if you try this one, how you find it? 17.01.2022 Yes. This. This is how we should feel when we are with our Yoga Teacher, or in our Yoga class. Safe enough to exhale. And this is what we, as Yoga business owners, teachers or therapists need to be providing. Places that are safe enough for us and our students to exhale deeply If we dont feel safe then we will close up again and retract. We will hold our breath. We wont be able to change, or heal. When we feel safe then we can begin to breathe again. We can allow ourselve...s to feel, maybe we even cry, or laugh! Here, we can learn to let go, we can change, we can absorb the medicine that yoga has to offer. We can exhale. And that is where the true healing can happen Is your Yoga practice a place where you can exhale? Posted @withregram @sacred.transitions This is absolutely true. That feeling when you know you cant feel all the feels because the environment is not right and then you walk into your home, or you walk into the arms of your loved one - your safe space - and it all comes tumbling down and you can exhale. @michaeljameswong

17.01.2022 VRKSASANA (Tree Pose). I really enjoy practicing this one on the mat, but even more on the chair! I call it my magic poseas it always brings me to a more grounded state & calms my mind Not only is it also great for balance and strength in the supporting leg & foot but it also opens the hip, improves circulation, posture, core stability, increases focus and calms the nervous system Again, like most Yoga shapes there are so many wonderful benefits! And yes, you can improve your balance and strength from the chair too. Give it a try and ground your foot to the floor - youll see what I mean. Remember to breathe & practice using the options that feel best for you today. Let me know how you like it! Enjoy!

15.01.2022 I love twists, do you? I love the way they move my spine, stretch my back and help create more space for my breath. I also love how they fill my torso with fresh energy when I release them. It's also interesting to me how they can be both energising and calming, depending on how and when you practice them in your practice. This is one variation of Revolved Crescent Lunge using a Chair. The chair helps me in this one by supporting my hips and creating a stable base for me to ...twist my spine from. And I can use my hand on the seat for some extra support. Do you enjoy practicing twists on the chair? What are some of your favourites?

15.01.2022 Hey Sydney friends! We have ONE PLACE LEFT in our upcoming teacher training next weekend - would you like to join us and learn how to teach Chair Yoga to anyone on any chair, anywhere? Register on the website: https://www.getfitwhereyousit.com.au//lv-chair-yoga-teache

14.01.2022 What is Yoga Therapy? Many people have asked me this question lately - what is Yoga Therapy? When I did my Yoga Therapy training in 2017 with Enlightened Events (who I highly recommend!), I remember so often thinking to myself the chair would be great for that! as the teachers were talking or while were discussing particular populations or case studies. Because Chair Yoga was created back in 1982 by Lakshmi Voelker (shes the LV in LV Chair Yoga) as a form of Yoga The...rapy for one of her students who was living with arthritis, I guess that makes sense! Using the Chair, it means that Yoga Therapy is even more accessible and available to everyBODY who wants to access the benefits of Yoga, especially those who find it a challenge getting onto the mat. LV Chair Yoga also has a non-judgemental, trauma informed approach which is fundamental in working with clients who may choose Yoga Therapy as their pathway to healing. In my latest blog I dive into what Yoga Therapy is and how it can benefit you on your yoga journey. Claire x

13.01.2022 This is one of our fabulous LV Chair Yoga teachers Yoko Nakanoin Japan showing me her adaptations of Pavivrtta Parsvakonasana as part of the practical side of our teacher training course. She completed her training with me back in 2018 and it was an honour to do her class on the weekend at You Call This Yoga YogaFest Online This is a wonderful pose for opening hips, strengthening the knees, thighs and lengthening the spine. It improves balance, digestion and stimulates the ...lymphatic system. It can also be helpful in reducing symptoms of sciatica and increasing lung capacity. Ahhh yet again, so many benefits! The use of the bolster and blocks make these benefits even more accessible to so many more bodies and I loved the way she created a supported shape using the props Yoko is also an Accessible Yoga Teacher, and a doctor, she combines the world of yoga with her knowledge of medicine, along with her partner Teruki Nakano. She is completely dedicated to bringing better health and happiness to the people of Japan, and the world! She is an inspiration and Im so proud of her and grateful that shes part of our community sharing Chair Yoga all over the world Medcareyoga See more

12.01.2022 I have been up since 6am today doing some video editing, so in other words, Ive been sitting down at a computer already for 4 hours today! And there were a few technology fails which meant I had some (ok a lot of) stress in my system But I dont feel too bad now that Im taking a break, because I made sure I moved my body as often as I could (well, as often as I remembered!). Not only did that help my physical body but it also helped to shift some of the feelings of stress ...so they could be released. That to me is equal to the physical benefits of moving because if we dont release those feelings, they get stuck and accumulate within making us unwell So, If youre sitting at a desk all day (or even if youre not!) this is a short sequence that will be great to practice anytime you like. If you can, do it once every 30mins to combat effects of sitting and free up your wrists, fingers, chest, shoulders and help improve your posture. And shift some of the emotions that rise during the day. Enjoy! See more

12.01.2022 Heres some ideas for using blocks in your chair yoga practice. Blocks are great to bring the floor closer, add height, support, stability, help with balance - or simply just to change your shapes to feel different. I like to use them to mix things up too for my brain & body and experiment with how things feel different for me using blocks For those with mobility or movement challenges in the lower body the block can provide a place to rest the foot passively so you can acc...ess the pose. Theyre also great for those with shorter legs to put under the feet to help bring the floor up, providing better alignment and grounding for the lower body There are so many ways and options to vary poses in a chair! It really doesnt matter what body youre in - there is a way for you to practice yoga and receive all the gifts it brings - any chair anywhere as we say See more

11.01.2022 The beautiful Carol sharing some reasons why she loves coming to our Chair Yoga classes. Carol and her husband Paul attended class with me in Alexandria every Friday. Our centre has been closed since March and while I really miss seeing them in person, its been so great to have them join my class on Zoom on Fridays and also see them at the live classes in the Facebook group. It still feels like we and the others in our Alexandria community (and beyond!) are connected and pre...sent in each others lives. I am so grateful we have been able to still practice Chair Yoga together during this time and support our physical, mental & emotional well-being The best thing about Chair Yoga is that you dont have to get on the floor! Ive got long legs and a short waist, so its not real comfortable for me sitting on the floor. But I can still do this wonderful yoga. It seems to have an effect of stretching out all of your body parts so I think its a kind of comprehensive exercise program. Its a lot of fun and its also very relaxing If youd like to join us at the free classes on offer head to the link in my bio or www.getfitwhereyousit.com.au/classes See more

07.01.2022 VIRABHADRASANA ll (Warrior 2) Many of you may not know this, but for the best part of the previous 2 years I was living with a shoulder injury. For most of 2019 the only exercise (which is also for me - work) I could do was chair yoga. Ive never been more grateful for this practice and that I could still move my body (and still teach) without hurting it. The chair supported me, so that everything I did I was able to support my shoulder. Not to mention the other aspects of ...Yoga that held me through some of the mental and emotional challenges that come along with injuries like these So this was my Warrior 2 Pose. It is another of my favourites and I actually enjoy it more on the chair than standing, even when I dont have shoulder challenges. I feel my hips are more balanced when Im seated. On the chair I can still get all the benefits of the standing pose. Some of those benefits are: Strength in the feet, knees and thighs. Stretch of the chest, hips and arms. Length in the spine. Plus Warrior 2 helps to increase lung capacity, improve digestion, circulation, mental focus and willpower There are lots of ways to adapt this (and every pose) to the chair to suit ALL bodies. You could also have the legs closer together or take the back leg out long and turn the foot in slightly. You could have your hands on your hips, both on shoulders or both extended. Theres literally something for everyBODY Writing this got me curious - do you practice chair yoga to help with physical challenges? Have you had similar experience? Let me know below if youd like to share See more

06.01.2022 A little morning sequence for breath, spine and shoulder mobility. I woke up feeling a little stiff and groggy today. Even just this 1 minute of movement connecting with breath made me feel so much better! And you dont even need to change out of your PJs or leave your room to do it. I actually did it on the side of my bed first and then repeated it on my chair, so that I could share it with you. Im feeling ready for the day now! What do you do to get yourself going in the morning?

02.01.2022 GARUDASANA (Eagle) one of my favourite balance postures. These are just 4 of the many ways that you can adapt this pose to the chair so that everyBODY can experience the benefits of this pose. There are many more. Some of the benefits of this pose include improved balance, stability, feet & ankle strength. It opens shoulders, sacrum area & hips, stimulates thyroid & pituitary glands, improves digestion & circulation and improves mental focus. Wow! So many benefits in one... pose! Personally I find it extremely calming for my mind and it brings peace to my upper back, especially if I focus on breathing into the space between my shoulder blades while Im in this shape. And the energy and fresh blood flow to the front of the chest and shoulders when you release the shape feels amazing. Mmm such therapy! Do you enjoy practicing eagle pose? See more
