25.01.2022 Here's my response to a question asked about herbal tincture ratios, whether a 1:2 tincture is stronger or weaker than a 1:5, and whether a tincture made on 45% alcohol is stronger than a 25% alcohol one: With a 1:2 strength, it uses 500g of dried herb to make 1 litre of tincture, regardless of alcohol percentage. A 1:5 tincture on the other hand only uses 200g of dried herb to make 1 litre of tincture. So a 1:2 makes a stronger tincture in terms of concentration of plant mat...erial. A completely separate issue, the ratio (percentage eg 25%, 45% etc) is the proportion of ethanol to water. It's based on plant chemistry. Each herb has different actives (eg glycosides, alkaloids, essential oils, polysaccharides and lots more). Some actives are better extracted in alcohol, some better in water. For example, if you want a good yield of an essential oil component (herbs such as lavender, rosemary, thyme) the traditional ratio is 60% ethanol. If you are needing more water soluble components (e.g. Polysaccharides in mushrooms), you would use a lower ratio eg 25%. So it's not true that 45% is stronger than 25%, as it depends on the chemistry of the individual plant. The traditional manufacturers tend to know what ratio to use but not always with Chinese herbs. There is no tradition in China for using ethanol extraction, it's more a Western method. So there's often quite a variation in ratios with Chinese herbs made into a 'western' tincture. Hope that clarifies it to some extent. See more

16.01.2022 Houttuynia fresh plant tincture gives excellent results as an anti viral treatment.

15.01.2022 Brenda is such an inspiration! We can heal from Lyme Disease with natural therapies and healthy lifestyle. Like Brenda I use and prescribe Stephen Buhner's Herbal protocols.

14.01.2022 Would you benefit from a medicinal herb which has powerful anti-viral, immune boosting and anti-oxidant properties? This is my blog post on Mediterranean Rock Rose, also known as cistus incanus. http://trishcloughherbalist.blogspot.com/2019/

09.01.2022 Absolutely classic bulls eye rash indicative of Lyme Disease. From Hunter region, Australia.

09.01.2022 Lovely sunny morning in my kitchen with cheerful calendula flowers. Here I am filtering organic calendula flower oil for topical treatments. Very gentle and healing as well as antiseptic. Suitable for any wounds, grazes, inflamed skin. Also I’m making a fresh plant tincture of calendula flowers (smaller jar) as a remedy for glandular issues, immune support and also for depression. It is known by some herbalists as ‘Herbal Sunshine’, which is understandable when you see the cheerful flowers in the winter.

03.01.2022 Here's something SH Buhner wanted reposted: Stephen Buhner October 18, 2017 Hi All, every so often, for the past decade or so, i will get an email or query of some sort about liver damage being experienced by a person with Lyme who is doing some version of the herbal protocol AND taking antibiotics. The most recent one was about highly elevated bilirubin counts. She totally freaked, stopped all the herbs, but kept taking the antibiotics. Her doctor thought it must be the ...herbs and did not do the simple thing and check known side effects of the abx he had prescribed. (This continually irritates me, it is egregious malpractice.) So . . . public health announcement: doxycykline, azithromycin, amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (for instance) can ALL cause liver damage, subsequently presenting a wide range of symptoms, including increased bilirubin counts. It can take months to resolve. (The list of possible symptoms includes liver failure and death plus a lot of things in between.) IT IS NOT THE HERBS. Using two or more of these abx increases the chance of such liver impacts, they are synergistic with each other. So, everyone, please take note of this and, those of you with Lyme help sites, will you please post. Thanks, stephen See more

02.01.2022 Amidst the smoke haze from unprecedented early Spring bushfires, and nightly news broadcasts of the dire situation for our farmers in drought, and towns about to run out of water, WE JUST CAN'T KEEP DOING THIS. I'm supporting the children on Friday. I will be closing my clinic for 2 hours to attend the Climate Strike. Our governments and decision makers must act to reduce global emissions, starting at home. As the old saying goes, 'Can't Eat Coal, Can't Drink Gas'. It's just not worth it to back these industries when we do have viable options.
