23.01.2022 Ambassador Rebecca Cole and her dad Gary Cole are getting their #legsout4lymphoma in style this March! Rebecca witnessed first hand the effects of the disease when her dad Gary was diagnosed. Throughout the course of Dad’s journey with Lymphoma there were times when it was quite confronting. For the most part Dad was very lucky and didn’t suffer much from his chemotherapy or radiotherapy but when the strongest person I know looks so weak and fragile it can be upsetting. Wi...th Dad’s high spirits and positive out-look he made it very easy for our family to stay upbeat. With this said, if I ever needed some reassurance throughout it all, the Lymphoma Australia website was there to provide information and resources. After the shock of the diagnosis, having someone there who can help educate you about the disease and how to help makes all the difference. It’s comforting to know you’re not alone, and it gives us all confidence in knowing there are options when it comes to fighting this cancer. Thanks Rebecca and Gary for continuing to raise awareness and showing your support of those touched by lymphoma cancer. You can join Bec, Gary and our crew to get your Legs Out for Lymphoma this March sign up now!! Walk, run, cycle, shoot hoops or run laps - do it your way to show support for lymphoma cancer patients Register for free at: bit.ly/LegsOut2021

16.01.2022 The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month marks the moment the guns fell silent on the Western Front after the bloodshed of World War I. Over the past century, this moment has been adopted across the globe as a time to remember those who served and sacrificed in all wars and conflicts. This Remembrance Day, we pause to Remember to Remember In Flanders fields the poppies blow... Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. - Major John McCrae

15.01.2022 First commercial CAR-T therapy to be manufactured in Australia Australian blood cancer patients including those with eligible subtypes of lymphoma and CLL will benefit with a breakthrough CAR-T therapy now to be made in Australia for the first time, within the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has granted approval for Cell Therapies Pty Ltd to commence commercial manufacturing of Kymriah, a chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) one-...time treatment, in its manufacturing facility, which is located within the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia. The approval makes Cell Therapies the first and only approved commercial manufacturing site for CAR-T in Australia for both clinical trial and non-clinical trial patients. Cell Therapies has been engaged in CAR-T development and clinical trial manufacturing for clinical investigators and other clients for over 10 years. Kymriah was the first CAR-T therapy to be approved by the TGA and publicly funded in Australia, for the treatment of eligible adult patients with relapsed or refractory DLBCL (diffuse large B cell lymphoma) and eligible paediatric and young adult patients up to 25 years of age with relapsed or refractory ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukaemia) [1]. The Kymriah manufacturing process is highly complex and requires a number of carefully performed steps. The patient’s cells are first extracted then reprogrammed in the manufacturing facility and returned as a personalised, one-time treatment for infusion back into the patient. Until now this advanced manufacturing process was conducted either in the Novartis Morris Plains facility in New Jersey, USA, or another approved overseas facility. Final approvals have now been received allowing Cell Therapies Pty Ltd, which operates a state-of-the-art facility within Peter Mac, to manufacture this treatment in Victoria. "This is great news for Australian Lymphoma patients who may benefit from this potentially lifesaving treatment, said Lymphoma Australia Board Chairman Serg Duchini" NovartisPeter MacCallum Cancer CentreKatie Allen MPGreg Hunt MP Learn more about CAR T cell therapy here https://www.lymphoma.org.au//chimeric-antigen-receptor-ca/

05.01.2022 #FastFactFriday Lymphoma cancer has more than 80+ different subtypes. Lymphomas are generally categorised either into Hodgkin Lymphoma or Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Lymphomas are either: Low grade (also referred to as indolent or chronic), because the abnormal cells are slow-growing; or High grade (also known as aggressive or acute) or fast-growing.... Given the variety and complexity of the different lymphoma subtypes, it is important for people diagnosed with lymphoma to know and understand their specific subtype. A large part of the support service we provide is helping patients and their families to better understand their disease (including its diagnosis, prognosis and their individual treatment plan), and access tailored information and support that is right for them. Knowing your subtype means you can access the right treatment at the right time for the right subtype. To continue to provide these vital links for patients we need your help. Get involved with our event this March - Legs Out for Lymphoma. You can sign up for no cost and walk, run, cycle or burpee to support lymphoma patient services. Join us!! Bit.ly/LegsOut2021

04.01.2022 Australian lymphoma patients will now have access to a new frontline therapy for CLL. Lymphoma Australia welcomes The Hon Greg Hunt MP’s announcement for another new PBS listing for CLL patients. From 1 December, access to Venclexta (venetoclax) will be extended in combination with obinutuzumab as a first-line treatment. This PBS listing will allow CLL patients who cannot be treated with standard chemotherapy-based treatments to have affordable access to this first-line co...mbination treatment. This targeted therapy will be especially beneficial for patients that are unfit or cannot tolerate chemotherapy due to side effects and other comorbidities. This new listing for the locally discovered treatment is a positive development for cancer patients. For more details, visit our website: https://www.lymphoma.org.au//new-frontline-therapy-for-cll/

02.01.2022 THANK YOU Australia for going LIME during September!! We are thrilled to announce that during September an incredible $100,000+ was raised by our generous supporters and community!!! ... As with all organisations this year, we had to change our service delivery. But one thing didn’t change our commitment to be there for all Australians affected by lymphoma. Because of YOU and your support, your fundraising will help to extend our specialist Lymphoma Care Nurse service and Nurse Support Phone Line; ensure resources and education is available to patients and families; and ensure the continuation of these services at no cost to patients.
