25.01.2022 My dad, Nick. No age or place given. Any ideas from car? Cheers

25.01.2022 Our James and Maria.

24.01.2022 Hi from cold but safe Tassie. Following on from my post yesterday - I had contact from a lovely gent in the USA with respect to the matter of the ROBINSONs from Berwick and Marg't and Alex being back in the census with their family in 1881. Like many, and on Ancestry, he felt bad I had followed the lead, but it turns out it was helpful for me in that it did exclude the Alexander ROBINSON in Berwick Upon Tweed. Back to the drawing board. Cheers and stay safe.

20.01.2022 Still checking but the basis of my wild theory is that we are connected to Francis EVANS thru his sonWilliam, not James. That we are descended from James of Lewes, hence many similarities and DNA. That the guy Rebecca E Ran off with was Jane Evans/Ford's son William. She was a witn3ss to Jane's second marriage in 1865, the year she took off and left poor George for a Will Ford. Jane and William weren't married, so he may have used her surname. As I still cannot find any accurate matches in DNA to George's ancestors, this may explain young Willies paternity. As I said, a wild theory. Cheers. Have a great day ??? .

20.01.2022 Whellll. Have spent the last week chasing Alexander (ROBERTSON/ROBINSON) and ratting thru old notebooks. The general consensus from known descendants via family hearsay is that he was born in ENGLAND and possibly ROBINSON. Something I tend to agree with. He was, in turn, a sailor, porter, storeman, labourer. Alex signed with an X on documents. His wife, Margaret was the informant of most of the births of their 9 kids. The children were Ann, Margaret, Mary, Ellen, Eliz...abeth, Alexander, Ester, Agnes, William. He lived in South Hobart and in 1875 worked at the Hobart Waterworks. He died at 73 on 28/4/1901. Buried at Queenborough Cem. I've checked out so many Alexs. I was in touch with someone descended from the Scottish MARSHALL/WEST combo and he states no-one of this age. So, sofar, no evidence there. Someone else commented he was a 6'4" tall Scotsman with red hair!!! How many redheads do we have in our families?? This morning I've followed the Berwick upon Tweed Alex and it all fits, EXCEPT the 1881 English census, states that son, Alexander and wife Margaret were in England living with parents, even though not on previous census except 1841. As well, I changed my Alexander on my Ancestry tree to ROBINSON, and I now have a heap of DNA matches in USA !!! Never rains but it pours. Stay tooned. Stay safe, warm and happy. Cheers. See more

19.01.2022 "Every Family Has A Secret". They always manage to get their man - or woman. So, what am I missing with my two mystery ladies - Ann and Maria??? Ann, no e. Mother of James and Rebecca EVANS, 1846,1849. Was she really Ann? Susannah? Hannah? Something different? If James EVANS Jnr was her FIRST child, she would likely be born B4 1834. (daughter Rebecca married at 13). From 1847 the family were in Muddy Plains (Sandford). Rebecca, with William FORD, headed to Southpor...t, Hastings, Tas from 1868. Th...that's all folks! Maria LORD. At least she had a surname! Strong DNA connection to David, James LORD and Hannah MORLEY et al. Born c 1820-24. Married 1st William Walden JOHNS, Married 2nd James SMITH 1854. In Muddy Plains district, then Hobart CBD, South Hobart. LORDS in same district and Sorell. Ditto MORLEY and HALSTEAD. Maria died 1890, Macquarie St. HOBART. Suggestions???? Cheers.

19.01.2022 Well, so much for getting all excited!! Just received a DNA match from a chap in Victoria which leads back to Francis EVANS and Mary REDMOND thru NEWITT. This confirmed that this may well be our line, as up until now, we had only shared descendants thru William E and Jane FORD. This pretty much put paid to any thoughts of William FORD being a William EVANS/Jane FORD son. But then my bubble was burst!! Turns out Ancestry think that we share DNA through the McCLOUD/POTTER combo !!! Stay tooned. Stay safe.

18.01.2022 The old hacienda

17.01.2022 Just as I'm about to give up on our Maria LORD, in comes even more conundrums with Grace HAYLEY said to NOT be mother of David LORD (1785-1847) & wife of James LORD (1757-1824). Our DNA Ancestor. Someone states Mary BARON but another says Mary STANSFIELD. This makes more sense [thanks Beverley]. Checking out the MORLEY, LORD, HALSTEAD, WILCOCK, STANSFIELDs, all appear at about the same time in Sorell and/or Clarence Plains (Tas). David LORD sponsored the MORLEY/HALSTEADS to... Sorell. Tied in Tassie are the 2 sisters, Hannah m David LORD and Betty m John HALSTEAD and brother Henry MORLEY. Also, to add coincidence - who said there is no such thing - we have all things LORD, MORLEY, STANSFIELD, HALSTEAD, HELLIWELL, WILCOCK all in a large muddle of people in the smallish district of Erringden Yorks, Sowerby, Cragg Vale and Mytholmroyd (love that name). Quite a few DNA matchs tho' small, as well. What "scares" me tho, for the time being, our missing ANN EVANS is also in the same districts, same time. In fact, Rebecca EVANS, her daughter, 1st hubby, our poor George BEZZANT worked at White Lea, Sorell when owned by these same HALSTEADs. So for the moment, I am as reasonably sure as I can be that these guys are ours - BUT where is Maria hiding? Lots of these peoples used previous/connected surnames as their middle names. Was Maria, Maria Lord SOMEONE ELSE, which surname she later dropped? Was she perhaps also a 'late' child of David and Ann/Hannah LORD & simply not registered? Was she a child of one of David's or Hannah's sibs? Oh - and just for whatever reason - some more DNA testers would be super-wonderful. Cheers, stay safe.... See more

17.01.2022 Arthur DARE and Faye BERRY. following lines as best I can to see where DNA leads, one goes back to Robert DEAR/DARE and Susan RICHARDSON and the other to William DARE and Sarah Ann GANGELL. Appears that Robet and William are not related! A clue may be that several of the SORELL FAMILIES inc. Wm NEWITT and Francis EVANS were to be found in Black Charlie's Opening on East Coast. I thought this area was just land? Any ideas ? Cheers

16.01.2022 Still wading thru paperwork and DNA. Have now found that although I have no BEZZANT matches, my hubby does to a descendant of 'Poor George's ' son, James BEZZANT who married a FREEMAN. I now remember saying I would one day find I'm married to my brother! And Ancestry has decided my son is really my half-nephew! What joy !! Cheers

15.01.2022 I need some more Girls photos.

13.01.2022 FORDS. I am struggling with these guys who are worse than Smith's rabbits. I found a DNA match recently - a nice chap - who has Patrick FORD in his tree (and also a distant LUTTRELL & CRACKNELL). I have 8 main FORD contenders. HINT: All are found in the North/West/Hobart districts, all at pretty much the same time, all have a William FORD, more than often inter-married and there are 4 Ethel May FORDs. This is my own identifying system, odd as it is - One is OURS of co...urse - back to William FORD, whoever he may be. Two is EATON Fords, back to Joseph FORD 1837 & Jane EATON, in Tas, Sorell. Includes Patrick FORD above. See HINT Three are WYNNETTE's - Back to Henry FORD & Mary Ann HERON. Possibly convict John FORD. Late of Swansea. Possibly 2 and connected to 4. Four is JANDY Fords (aka APPLETON/RILEY). Connected to 2, and possibly to 1 and 4. Five is ERROLs. Second Cuz. Marriage connection to HORN, DNA connected to LUTTRELL and connected to 4. Six are MOEs FORDs. Possibly/probably the EATON Fords - see 2 Seven are the OLAF Fords - Connection to STACEY, EATON, Montpelier Ret and possibly to 2. Eight are the EVANs Fords - Jane FORD and William EVANS. Nothing are 1865. Connected DNA via Francis EVANS. Sorell. Hellllpppp Cheers See more

13.01.2022 Speaking of photos - does anyone have one of Alice Maud, pop's first wife, our grandmother??Speaking of photos - does anyone have one of Alice Maud, pop's first wife, our grandmother??

13.01.2022 Not sure I've commented on this before. When I was a child, I had an uncle Bobby (WALLER). I also had a chap named Teddy EVANS. As they looked alike (no known connection), my name for them both was Uncle TEDDY BOB!! Still haven't found if the EVANS are in my tree or Teddy was just a "courtesy" uncle - friend and workmate of my Dads. Anyone know??

10.01.2022 Pretty much searched out today. The DARE family, I share DNA with goes back into Sorell, William HAMBLY, DUNCOMBE etc. Hence, maybe our Ann EVANS fits in here somewhere. Arthur DARE wife goes back to Robert EVANS and Betsy Dear/DARE. The Iris BERRY DNA match still leaves me in the dark..... So, it's onwards to more searches! One thing for sure it seems that our Maria LORD and EVANS family all hung about Sorell and Muddy Plains. Cheers

10.01.2022 Hi peoples. Have been busy searching the mystery cases, esp Ann EVANS and Maria LORD. Just posted a message to a Genie Group which is great with things. My message - MARIA LORD On the verge of giving up with this lady. We think she's born 1821-25, either in Hobart or England. Think she died her in 1890 in Macquarie St, Hobart. She married at 20 in 1842 to William Walden JOHNS (c1798-1853). 3 kids - 1 d, 1 to Orphan School, 1 grew up. The year after he died she marrie...d James SMITH (c1820-1868). She had at least three more kids - Richard (ours), Sarah I know details, and William to the Industrial School. Lived in South Hobart, Macquarie St, possibly Clarence Plains and Sorell. James SMITH died after an argument with a cow in South Hobart. There are DNA connections to David LORD and Hannah MORLEY of early Tasmania. DNA also to Halstead, Sorell, David & Hannah's sons, James and John. DNA connections to heaps of the district of Lancashire/Yorkshire northern border. She used the LORD surname until she married and gave it as her maiden name. Just a small paragraph & that's about all I truly know folks! Am in contact with two ladies at the moment, so cross fingers. Otherwise. I just don't know!!! Cheers, stay safe See more

09.01.2022 My darling Dad, sister Laurel and moi in the middle c 1980 cheers

07.01.2022 I am going to (try) put together something on our family history. I have the genie bones but I need stories, photos, memories, details. Growing up in North, South and West Hobart, I think we had a poor but memorable childhood both good and bad. Before this generation disappears with its memories and stories with it. Our youngest is 56 ?? So, photos, stories, pics, comments. Even small ones like Geoff's dog Lucky, always beating him to the pub before Geoff opened the front gate! So - homework! I need details - families, homes, work, contacts, help, info, shares, it doesn't have to be about people, before it goes. I left it too late with the previous two generations, so hope not to with this one. Cheers and TIA.

05.01.2022 Just a mini bit of my confusion!

05.01.2022 Hi Michelle B, have been rattling around searching and found that Faye BERRY shares DNA with me and a Stephen GRIFFITHS. Stephen is a son of Paul Raymond TAYLOR. Paul Raymond TAYLOR is a son of Ernest Wm TAYLOR and Madeline Emma BOXALL REID cheers

04.01.2022 Which Ford's I wonder? Jnr or Snr (from "The Wit of Walker", Max Walker.

01.01.2022 After extreme arguments with technology and a wonderful bil who helped immensely, am back on the trail. Yesterday I received a new DNA match. Researching as much as I could, some where between William HAMBLY and the First Fleet we slot in. Primarily made of Sorell pioneers, I can only assume, for the moment that this relates to our Mysterious Ann EVANS. Predictably I still cannot track her down, but will keep searching. Also found the daughter of a Kent smuggler hiding as well. Stay tooned, Stay safe. Cheers always

01.01.2022 Interesting! Just found that I have a DNA match thru My Heritage Theory of Relativity, to my STEP grandmother! Sadie Bruce!!
