25.01.2022 Back on the hammer for the first time in nearly 2 months. Making armour for my LARP character with a carnival mask theme. First try at chasing with two of them, pretty happy with the result!

24.01.2022 First try at a pillowcase, turned out pretty well!

24.01.2022 Hand sewn Anglo-Saxon tunic. Almost floor length

24.01.2022 Made another quernstone today!

24.01.2022 Bit of work at the museum today. Eating spike roughed out and ready to sharpen and wax

21.01.2022 Also! Safety first!

21.01.2022 Been working on this for a while. Hopefully, if I don't screw it up, i'll have a workable bench at some point!

21.01.2022 Start to finish on two stones in a day. Getting the hang of this!

20.01.2022 Shoe making! Couple hours work to finish one, much easier with the right needles. Picture one is a wet fitting with my kit

19.01.2022 An angle grinder with wire brush, fabrication of a 2mm plate, a can of oxide inhibitor and my firepit lives again! Turns out leaving a 1mm piece of steel under wet sand for ten years is a bad idea. Took 4 hours to clean and restore the bits that needed it, but I do like fixing things

18.01.2022 Playing around with the Scorpion grinder today! Turns out I'm pretty good at free hand axe sharpening

18.01.2022 A lot of the old rusty stuff that re-enactors sell are just after some attention. 15 minutes with a wire brush restored the metal, and a good soak in linseed oil should fix the leather nicely and prevent further rust. *warning* While it is useful, the wire brush cup I use on my grinder is an incredibly dangerous tool. A moment of inattention and it will strip your skin away in an instant.

18.01.2022 Couple days of work at the new house, and I've completed the stand for my Scorpion grinder. Should hopefully get it mounted in the next couple days

16.01.2022 First thing I've built since I got out of hospital. 1.5x0.5m garden bed, made from recycled timber from an old chicken coop.

14.01.2022 Been working on this for a quite some time now, 14th century quern(mill)stone

14.01.2022 Restoration is one of my favourite things to do. My dad found this 13.5" cast iron skillet while cleaning their caravan out at North Durras. De rusted with the wire brush on the angle grinder and quite a lot of rice bran oil to re season it. The other option for seasoning is to oil and put it in the oven, but I find this works just as well and is quite a bit quicker.

12.01.2022 Also prototyped some trogdolyte mittens from the 14th century, a little small for me, but works in progress!

12.01.2022 Did some more work on the marshalling staff, and managed to hide the file almost completely in the handle. It did involve more work with my auger drills, and cutting the file off short, but I'm quite pleased with the result!

09.01.2022 A bit of restoration today. When re-hafting and derusting an old warhammer , I found some cracks, so a ten minute job turned into more than two hours of grinding, welding and grinding some more. Turned out fairly well, but I don't think I'll be able to fix it if it breaks again. The knife was five minutes with a wire brush on my grinder. Looks like a handmade job, hollow ground. Came up pretty nice

08.01.2022 Polished up this knife, made by JJ Francis Blacksmith & Armoury

07.01.2022 Another quernstone. This is a Roman design, and I can claim that because quernstones haven't changed designs in the last thousand or so years. :p

06.01.2022 My new marshalling stick, coming to a field near you!

06.01.2022 Quernstones in action!

05.01.2022 Quick demo on forging a perannular brooch over the weekend as part of the Virtual Medieval Gathering 2020

04.01.2022 Today's work. Herringbone wool hand stitched with linen thread, then decorated and hemmed with red silk. Based on the Skjolderhamn hood

04.01.2022 Hat! (I made it)

04.01.2022 Armguard based on a find from the Mary Rose

02.01.2022 90% done duvet cover! I just need to add buttons or velcro at the bottom to complete it.
