16.01.2022 THE JUNGLE Recently we visited The Jungle below the Lady (Nancy) Fairfax walk. We were searching for some of the features that excited a group of business men i...n the early 1920s, which prompted them to purchase 280 hectares of mostly temperate rainforest (with support of the late Sir James Fairfax). Not only did we find the grotto (see first photo with some of the team for scale) that I’d heard about but several small waterfalls, glow worms, interesting fungi, vines and 5 different plant communities. Some of the transitional forest we found is truly unique with Basalt endemics growing alongside sandstone and shale loving species; something I have not seen anywhere else! We also found a massive tree stump that had probably been logged prior to the 1920s purchase and most importantly we found some of the original pathways and steps carved into sandstone from the same era. After some further exploration in the near future (which we hope will locate more of the original paths) we plan to open the area up to visitors ensuring we provide them with the best possible route. Stay tuned for further developments. - Greg Bourke - Manager/Curator #tomah30 #aplaceoflife #bluemountainsbotanicgarden #bluemountainsbg #ilovensw #visitnsw #seeaustralia #bluemountainsattractions #NewSouthWales
