21.01.2022 CLARIFYING CURRENT RESTRICTIONS FOR SHOP VISITORS: * Please wait outside to be invited in * only one customer may enter (clarifying that this means ONE customer with ONE shop assistant = two person ruling - it is not meant to be offensive, and is deeply saddening to have to keep informing 'family living together' groups of two that they cannot enter at this time - I am so sorry but we cannot make any exceptions, this rule is for everyones safety and enforceable by law -... the only alternative is to close) * please no children (carried babies and carried toddlers are ok) * please don’t handle products - let me show them to you * eftpos payWave preference * I will open the door for you to leave (so only one had touches the door) Thankyou for your patience, it’s very stressful being a shop keeper right now, but we can get through this together; Lyrebird has been open for 12 years this week - I’m planning on at least another ten with your continued support Lyrebird will continue. PS - our customers are spoiled with the best organic hand sanitiser .... (made by @goulds_natural_medicine ) with a choice of Lavender or Eucalyptus (and next week Spruce) Stay safe everyone: to limit store time feel free to ring with questions and orders in advance, prepay for grab and go, and please make a time if you require after 4pm service if you do wish to shop with family or friends we can get around it by one entering at a time and short listed products can be taken outside for 'social distancing discussion on the footpath. @ Lyrebird = Steiner inspired products See more

17.01.2022 For our locals who follow a tradition of opening doors to the magical pictures of advent (sorry it’s too late now for sending interstate): We still have a large selection of advent calanders for you to choose from . There is always variety as so many famlies come in each year to choose a new one, and its just as important for our ‘last minute’ busy families coming in to have as many scenes to choose from as the first

16.01.2022 White doves for peace - easy to make: 1 - Draw out a dove body shape onto white card. 2 - cut out shape. 3 - concertina fold a piece of white tissue (or we used white kite paper), fold in half to make a crease to gauge centre of wings. 4 - cut a horizontal slit (the width of the folded paper) into the birds body.... 5 - slide folded paper into slit. 6 - find a center point to make a small hole to thread string. 7 - thread string and tie to make a loop. 8 - hang (if not hanging straight make a second hole and thread a second looped string, either in front or behind the first hole to balance the bird. The girl who made this one had a sprig of pressed leaves that she attached to the beak to appear as an olive branch lyrebird Steiner products See more

12.01.2022 Juju’s Angels are getting their final wings and trims ready to fly in next week * also arriving are Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, and mini Xmas trees. Apart from being adorable, the small size bases slot perfectly into celebration rings

12.01.2022 December 1st - the first day of counting down to Christmas Day. A simple yet beautiful tradition my family continue is to hang a deep blue cloth (silk, fine cotton or wool) and hand cut tin foil silver stars. I used a water based glue to fix the stars onto a silk cloth when the children were small (the glue could be washed easily in January) but now I poke a dress making pin through the star into firm wool felt fabric. This idea was introduced to me by Joan Salter (author of The Incarnating child), who ran The Gabriel Baby Centre that I was very fortunate to attend. By Christmas Eve the cloth look very pretty covered in stars, sparkling in the Advent candle light. @lyrebirdsteinerinspired

09.01.2022 Anna has been using the same advent collection since her eldest (now grownup) child fashioned the wax Mary and Joseph at his Steiner kinder. Each day an object is placed in an inward spiral direction - the first weeks items all represent the mineral kingdom, the second weeks objects are from the plant realm, the third week is the animal kingdom, and the fourth week the human realm. And every year they read the story of Mary’s Little Donkey (typically read by Steiner school early childhood teachers to kinder / class 1 children, but many families adopt this book as a family traditional advent read because the story delights the children so much)

09.01.2022 . Tradition in my house means ‘the tree’ appears and decorations are rediscovered on the second Sunday of advent as we honour the plant kingdom. At Lyrebird the decorations for Xmas appear about the same time, mostly because the shop is too busy until that date coordinating customer orders and serving in the shop to think of decorations, but it’s a happy coincidence all the same. @lyrebirdsteinerinspired .... * beautiful wooden and felt Christmas decorations are now on display at Lyrebird, ready for customer selection. 09.01.2022 Easy to make kite paper Christmas window stars: A Christmas colours selection of kite paper is available in a pad from Steiner school stockists, including here at Lyrebird. These two lovely stars were proudly made by sisters around age 7 and 11; they are taped to their dining room window to bring festive cheer into the home

07.01.2022 I love observing customers collecting advent treasures; some collections become elaborate, some are simple yet beautiful gestures, some use / rediscover the same objects each year, some traditions evolve over years, some have traditions from their own family / parents and grandparents traditions . This collection to was thoughtfully curated in store yesterday by a customer to delight and inspire two little girls.

06.01.2022 CLARIFYING CURRENT RESTRICTIONS FOR SHOP VISITORS: * Please pause outside to read requirements and check how many more may enter. * currently X2- x3 people who are not together may enter and observe self distancing / X2 groups who are ‘together’ may enter if they observe group distancing. If at capacity the door will be locked briefly. If people are waiting at the door and cannot enter but already know what they want they may stand inside or outside the door (depending on c...urrent inside circumstances) and may be served from the door - I am so sorry but we cannot make any exceptions, this rule is for everyones safety and enforceable by law - the only alternative is to close) * children and handling - children may enter and stay with adult, but please explain that Lyrebird is a not touching shop - it’s tempting and tricky but apart from observing important health precautions, it’s nice for all customers to be able to purchase items that have had minimal careful handling by previous customers. . * all products on display are for sale (not samples or testers - if in doubt you are welcome to ask * we are accepting cash again, but may not always be able to break large bills. Thankyou for your patience so far, we are getting through this well together; Lyrebird has been open for 12 years Thanks to the continued support of our locals. PS - our customers are spoiled with the best organic hand sanitiser ....
