25.01.2022 Crew had Christmas drinks onboard today and Commodore John took the opportunity to thank Garry for the 500+ hours work he has so far undertaken to completely rewire the vessel and to grant him MYCT membership. Many thanks to all who have taken a trip onboard so far this season, it is hoped that you enjoyed he experience and will return. ‘Egeria’ and MYCT wish you all the best for the festive season.

23.01.2022 'Egeria' remains laid up for winter. Despite that the crew still meets on Tuesday mornings in the MYCT clubhouse to discuss all and sundry. Some minor work is being undertaken and once the warmer weather arrives varnishing will begin in earnest. Followers may be interested in another almost identical vessel to 'Egeria' although 13 feet longer at 75 feet. HMAS Kuru was an auxiliary patrol boat operated by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) during World War II. Constructed in 1938... at Balmain NSW for the Northern Territory Patrol Service, Kuru was used to counter poaching Japanese fisherman and was armed with 1 x 3 pounder. Requisitioned by the RAN following the Japanese declaration of war in December 1941 the boat operated from Darwin, and was one of the vessels used to keep Allied troops in Timor resupplied following the Japanese invasion. 'Kuru' operated until 1943, when she was damaged beyond repair in an accident. Whilst in Navy service she was armed with 1x Oerlikon 20mm, 1 x .50 cal and several light machine guns. See more

21.01.2022 On Thursday Egeria headed to CleanLift in Prince of Wales Bay for annual slipping and survey. Slight delay in haul out saw coffees aplenty. Also old adage of many hands make light work was proven.

17.01.2022 ‘Egeria’ has once again fulfilled its regal duties acting as the flagship for the 57th Tasmanian Scout Regatta at Snug Beach at the weekend. ‘Egeria’ transported the Governor, Her Excellency Professor Kate Warner, and her husband Richard, from Margate to the Regatta so she could take the sail past salute from scouts from across Tasmania. Photo shows Governor and husband with crew.

17.01.2022 Last week, apart from preparing Egeria for Opening Day, the crew set out to break the Guinness Book of Records record for the greatest number of crew to watch a tachometer. The eight viewers achieved a time of 3 minutes 18 seconds. We now await confirmation that a world record has been achieved. Some repair work also had to be done to fix a leak in the bow.

16.01.2022 Today Egeria escorted dragon boats taking part in the Derwent Storms Dragon Boat Club’s third biennial event themed Beaches, Bridges and Bays. 130 paddlers many from Vic and NSW tackled a 42.2 km course starting in Lindisfarne, heading south to Bellerive Beach, across to Constitution Dock, up to Prince of Wales Bay via Cornelian Bay and New Town Bay, up to MONA then head back to Lindisfarne.

16.01.2022 Tonight the Egeria crew celebrated Lukey’s 90th birthday. This very special occasion was enjoyed by all who attended.

16.01.2022 Business as usual this morning with Rosie supervising the old bug#%rs. Someone has to do it.

13.01.2022 ‘Egeria’ gets a spruce up for The Official Opening of the Yachting Season 2020-2021 on Saturday 3 October.

13.01.2022 Cruises are slowly increasing in number and dinner cruises are once again proving popular. As the weather improves now is the time to get your friends together and make a booking. Just contact the MYCT office. Passengers on a recent trip got to see some visitors to the Port of Hobart and a twilight race.

12.01.2022 Although COVID-19 has seen Egeria laid up early for winter some repair and maintenance work has been undertaken. Now that restrictions have been eased crew will be able to meet again for Tuesday morning coffee in the clubhouse keeping social distancing. Attached is a photo of what Egeria was up to 66 years ago. Apologies for no posts for a while as not a lot happening.

12.01.2022 New regulations re crew haircuts have been introduced and there is absolutely nothing anyone can do about it. You either have to have Grey hair or the other style as per the photos. Apart from that Egeria has had a very busy week with five trips including Rotary Sail Day and Bennett’s Petroleum, one of our sponsors. On Saturday down to North West Bay for Scout Guide Regatta. Governor will board at Margate for the event. Must be a dog biscuit in the bilge!

09.01.2022 More photos of tonight’s Opera on a Boat

09.01.2022 Tonight ‘Egeria’ hosted Bennett’s Petroleum one of our sponsors. Guests enjoyed viewing the depth sounder images of the ‘Lake Illawarra, the BYC Twilight Race, plus a number of interesting and historic vessels tied up to the wharves. These included Tassal’s New well ship ‘Aqua Spa’, the ‘Rhona H’, ‘Lady Nelson’ and ‘Derwent Hunter’ that has not been seen in Hobart for many a year.

08.01.2022 A very busy time for ‘Egeria’ as Christmas approaches. Trip yesterday gave passengers a great view of ships in port - Aurora Australis Queen Elizabeth, Ruby Princess, and ICS Silver Lining.

07.01.2022 Last few weeks it has been business as usual although rough weather has caused a few cancelled trips. Tuesday mornings usually sees a big gathering of crew members and the Saloon is not big enough to accommodate them all. Might have to move to a Port and Starboard watch system until the winter months when many become grey nomads freeing up some space. Worthy of note is that under the boat’s OH&S policy crew members are to be issued with new headware that gives good UV protection.

07.01.2022 This week task was window cleaning.

06.01.2022 Tonight Egeria was the platform for a treat at the Taste of Tasmania. Renowned Tasmanian soprano Emily Burke entertained the audience with a number of her favourite operatic arias. Will be performing Opera on the High C’s again tomorrow night.

06.01.2022 Yet another photo of Opera on a Boat from an unusual angle. Just a reminder that there will be a repeat performance tonight.

05.01.2022 Another Opera on a Boat photo

04.01.2022 Egeria is back in business with several charters on the books. Saturday 3 October is Combined Clubs Open Day and the Governor will be onboard. Now is the time to start planning your dinner cruise or just a cruise before the rush. Just contact Belinda at the MYCT who will be happy to work with you to make it all happen. Due to Covid passenger numbers are limited to 16.

04.01.2022 Today ‘Egeria’ took part in the Clarence Sea Farers Festival. Six trips to the Tasman Bridge to see the depth sounder image of the ‘Lake Illawarra’ were undertaken. Patrons also enjoyed a Devonshire Tea whilst onboard. Shore crew also greatly appreciated the coffees plus fish and chips donated by the fish punt ‘Hooked on Bellerive’ who were celebrating their first birthday. Next time you are in Bellerive why not pop in for a coffee or a meal.

02.01.2022 Egeria remains alongside at MYCT and despite the Volunteers being unable to varnish Garry has been fine tuning the electrical systems that he recently upgraded. He also did an excellent job building the cabinets as well.
