21.01.2022 Love. Learn. Live. One of the most common things that I coach young men on when they are getting prepared for marriage is exactly how they should love their new wife - not just in the first years but for the next 50 or 60 years. I encourage them that each husband should strive to get a PhD in their wife. They should make it their aim to know more about their wife than anyone else in the whole world. It is a simple 5 minute lesson but it is a lifelong application. It is only... by knowing and understanding the needs, wants and desires of their new brides that they can hope to serve them daily in loving and meaningful ways. I let the young men know that they can never assume that they have achieved their PhD because life will keep presenting new challenges and experiences which will shift the needs, wants and desires of their bride. It might seem unfair that it is a moving target but that is what makes the whole thing so worthwhile. We need to strive to keep learning about our life partners. Most young men, if they are smart, sit quietly and then ask me how can they achieve this PhD? The answer is both simple and hard - It is communication. Daily, personal, meaningful communication with the aim of understanding your wife at a deeper level. Remember to use the ear:mouth ratio. Listen twice as much as you speak. 05.01.2022 I was very encouraged yesterday whilst delivering another Kids First Aid session with a large group of new parents. I noticed one chap had come alone and so I asked him what brought him along? He said that I had taught his wife last month and just two weeks ago their little one was choking and his wife calmly walked over and clear his airway with no fuss using the technique that I showed her. Dad was stunned as he had no idea what to do with his son choking. The key aspect ...of this story rests in the reason that his wife came to the course. She was living every day in fear that something would happen with her baby and she would not know what to do. The poor lady had no confidence. Upon reflection I did recall his wife attending the course as she was teary for the first hour and was scared of doing the CPR on the baby mannequin. However, after the 3 hours she walked out of my course with her shoulders back and an air of confidence about her. I am pretty sure that I heard her say "I've got this". I am so blessed to be able to deliver a course which really does save lives (for real) and gives new parents the confidence to relax and fully enjoy their little ones without their previous anxieties.
