17.01.2022 Did you know that AJAX Amateur Athletic Club (now known as Maccabi Athletic Club) first entered teams in Shield competition (interclub competition) on the 16th November 1961! On that day AJAX had over 30 men and women, boys and girls compete on the track (races were measured in yards in those days) and in the field (where throws and jumps were measured in feet and inches). The men and boys competed proudly in their new AJAX singlets boldly displaying the Magen David (ph...oto attached) at the Melbourne University track (which was the re-laid cinders track from the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games), as did the women and girls who competed on a grass track at Royal Park The first winners for the club included Joe Rozen in the open mens 100 yards in the time of 10.5 sec (the equivalent of 11.4 sec for a 100 meters) , 17 year old Phil Brooks won the mile in 4 min 58.4 sec (the equivalent of a 4min 38 sec 1500m) whilst at Royal Park Margaret Wolfs won the 220 yards (approx. 201meters ) in 29.3 seconds. The Jewish News reported this about the new AJAX athletic club: The club, which is the first of its kind outside Israel, hopes to revive athletic interest among Jewish people in Melbourne and to generally encourage participation in athletics, the purest of all amateur sports, among Jewish girls and boys. 59 years later and that is still the clubs goal #maccabiproud #wearemaccabi #maccabi #running #jumps #sprinting #teams #fun #maccabiathletics #maccabiaths #athletics

11.01.2022 Mazel Tov to Jemima Montag, her family and coaching team Jemima has been selected for the 20K race walk for the Tokyo Olympics July 2021 Jemima joined Maccabi Athletic Club in 2010 as an already dedicated 12 year old athlete! 8 years later after many state and National titles and records in race walking (as well as two Maccabiah Games as a runner) she WON the gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in the 20K race walk. Jemima went on to win the Olympic s...election trials and NOW she has been selected for Tokyo 2021. 08.01.2022 Welcome athletes and parents back to Sunday training 1.11.20. We will have close to 50 athletes training on Sunday at Duncan Mackinnon with a few new faces. Please make our new members very welcome when you see them! We also have a new coach joining our team- Jessica Mackenzie - an Australian ranked heptathlete. So exciting! We will be training in squads of 10 plus the coach. Please note: All parents and all athletes over the age of 12 MUST wear face coverings to training.... Athletes can remove the masks for training- but wear them before and after training. On arrival please go straight to your squads- do NOT congregate at the entrance. Parents please drop off your children then leave the venue and return to pick up. Bring your own hand sanitizers please (we will have some as well) and your own water bottles- clearly marked. NO SHARING OF BOTTLES! And we must implement social distancing between squads and within squads. Your coaches will go through the procedures at the start of training.
