25.01.2022 Hi ladies and gents! Please tell me we are all making the best of this weekends light winds and 7m+ coastal vis around Mackay and Whitsundays! Conditions are set to improve up to Sunday afternoon, this alongside neap tides should help clear the vis further. There is quite a bit of coral spawn around at the moment, but this soon clears as you descend towards the bottom, Also please be aware there is a whale carcass floating around at the moment, judging by the smell and publi...c complaints it may be around the slade point/ blacks beach area, please use caution as shark activity will be more prominent in these areas, Also! Don’t forget to sign onto the running comp! Big prizes again this year that you don’t want to miss out on! For more info on how to join and sign up, ask the club! Thanks A.J
22.01.2022 Who’s heading out for a dive this weekend? Awesome weather window and decent tides. That time of the year when Spanish mackeral will be hanging around too. ... But remember safety is key with diving, we strongly recommend a buddy system when diving (1 up 1 down) and in the unfamiliar areas a boat driver. I believe the club is looking at holding a Social day, but contact Shelby Gavin for any information. Cheers all and stay safe
20.01.2022 Here’s a great video to show how oxygen in your body behaves while you dive down Safe Diving Everyone

19.01.2022 Ladies and gents, Due to current events surrounding the Covid-19 saga, I have decided to postpone all club meetings and social interactions until further notice. Face to face meetings don’t fit the scope of the new restrictions set by the government, Although I would like to know your thoughts on hosting a discussion or online poll through Facebook messenger group chat to let the club progress through these times ahead,... If anyone has any other helpful idea please don’t hesitate to bring them forward, there’s still quite a few things we need to be proactive in organising ie Cloughy challenge and running comp, Stay safe and healthy, from all of us at the club. Cheers.
19.01.2022 Just a sad reminder on the danger of free diving, please make yourself aware of shallow water black out and what to do if it was to occur on a day out diving. Adreno have an excellent video on there YouTube channel about what to do in this instance.

19.01.2022 Bottom time is key
19.01.2022 Friendly reminder to everyone as this topic was discussed at the September club meeting, We do live in croc country just give them respect, don't be complacent and watch out for your mates. I received a call from an operator this afternoon returning to the inlet, he sighted the animal with others at the sarina inlet ramp (protected ramp), the animal was estimated to be close to 4m.... These animals are common in this area, with regular sightings of 2 animals at the freshwater point ramp just around the headland, thankfully no human interaction has occurred thanks to reporting and vigilance. P.s never smile at a crocodile
18.01.2022 November club meeting As discussed last meeting, the club is trying to accomodate for shift workers who are unable to attend meetings due to being out at work, Can we have a show of hands/ rosters so we can plan this months meeting,... The 13/11/20 is the proposed date at this stage. Let us know your plans so we can do our best to include all members! Cheers A.J
17.01.2022 A reminder to all spearfishers - swift action and response saves lives. Now is the time to prepare. Spearsafe - an AUF initiative.... This project was made possible with assistance of the RecFishWest's Community Grants Scheme with support from the Recreational Fishing Initiatives Fund, and assistance from New South Wales Recreational Fishing Trust. Thanks also to Queensland Police Services for their help with this video.
15.01.2022 Follow the rules! Stay safe !
14.01.2022 Hi all, There has been an update on Ricks condition, "Shark attack victim Rick Bettua is awake and in a stable condition in hospital after suffering a "catastrophic" bite to his pelvis.... He was mauled by a suspected bull shark while spearfishing at Britomart Reef, off Hinchinbrook Island, around 140km north of Townsville." - 9 News. We keep Rick in our thoughts and hope for a stable and speedy recovery for this legend. Please everyone take the extra 5 minutes to plan a first aid kit or even keep a spare rubber weight belt onboard or a tourniquet onboard as it was only a short time go that Rick saved his mates life by applying a tourniquet to a shark bite off the Hinchinbrook coast. Bull sharks are notoriously dangerous animals and we recommend implementing controls to reduce to hazard they pose to us, Rick is an extremely competent diver and this incident highlights the need to forward think and prepare, here are a few tips, Buddy dive & watch your buddy, if your buddy is ascending and you see a shark come up under them or start rising in the water towards them, make a dive on your buddy and try to put gun between the shark and buddy also making your buddy aware of the new threat. We all have blind spots and I've had bulls come up from underneath and in blind spots very quickly whilst on ascent. Shark shields and shark bandz are available and well worth the investment. It doesn't make you untouchable but may buy you time to identify the hazard the animal presents and control the situation. Try get your fish out of the water try not to keep a ball of fish on your float or on your person. Shoot fish in a manner that reduces erratic struggles in the water. After stringing and handling fish I try to clear the fish slime and particles off my gloves and person to reduce the scent on my person. Be mindful of the warmer temperatures and increased aggression around the warmer months, Thankyou.

02.01.2022 Queensland is working towards getting our community back to normal while ensuring we continue to slow the spread of COVID-19. Queensland Health has advised it i...s essential that you continue to do the right thing and abide by the restrictions that are in place https://www.covid19.qld.gov.au/ From 15 May 2020, public gatherings for recreational purposes, such as fishing, are limited to 10 people. This applies to fishing from shore as well as on a boat. If you do choose to go fishing, stay within 150 km of your home, keep 1.5 metres from others and practise good hygiene. State Government boat ramps currently remain open, and Seqwater and Sunwater dams reopened on 2 May. Check with local authorities about other fishing locations before you head out fishing. For any queries about boating, please contact Maritime Safety Queensland (Department of Transport and Main Roads (Queensland))
