20.01.2022 Good Morning Walking Soccer Fans Due to the current situation with the Corona virus all soccer in Queensland has been cancelled until at least the 14th of April and that includes Walking Soccer. At this stage we do not know if it will be extended past that date and we will advise as soon as we know what is happening.... Until then stay safe and well and hopefully we can all get back to doing what we love soon. cheers Grahame

06.01.2022 Meet Grahame Bundesen from Mackay Walking Soccer Association, one of our three Spring Fit health challenge ambassadors! Here's Grahame's story which he hopes ...will inspire others in the Mackay community. NOTE - this is a long read but worth it! ---------------------------------------------- Five years ago I suffered a stroke which left me with balance issues amongst a few other things. I was unable to run properly or even have the agility needed to play a sport like soccer, so I started looking around at other options to stay fit and active. I was coaching a couple of junior soccer teams for Wests United and had a fair bit to do with the senior men's team and found I wanted to be able to participate more than just standing on the sidelines. Talking it over with my good mate Simon, who had been involved in soccer most of his life, we came up with the idea to play soccer at a walking pace. I jumped on the internet that night and typed in walking soccer. I was surprised to find it actually existed in a competitive way and that it was fairly big in Europe. They even have a world cup for Walking Soccer! We immediately decided to see what we could do and began to look into the rules and what equipment was needed. We ran a Facebook campaign and held an exhibition match with over 40 people attending, which was an amazing response. We then launched the inaugural season of Walking Soccer and managed to gain nominations from up to eight teams of 10 players over a 10-week period and over 20 individual players, which we allocated to various teams over that period. This led us to cater for all abilities for kids who attended Move and Play Paediatrics, bringing to the sport about 15 adults with disabilities from the Endeavour Foundation, who have been among the game’s greatest supporters. Thank you to my supporter base of Ross Gee (former council member), Elizabeth Crane (Sport and Recreation Officer for council), Kathryn Andrews (Endeavour Foundation, SNAGS), Peter and Shelly Beldan (Whitsunday Office Machines), Jason Mackenzie (Souths Abbott Park) and all the players who have been associated with the sport. It has been a labour of love, so to speak. All I can say to people is, get in and give it a go. You will not be disappointed and you will have a great night out. Walking Soccer truly is a game for all ages and abilities. More - www.mackay.qld.gov.au/springfit #springfitmackay Star 101.9 Mackay

04.01.2022 Good Morning Walking Soccer Fans The countdown is on to Thursday night and the start of the next season of Walking Soccer. Just a reminder that any child under the age of 12 will be playing at 5.15pm prior to the main games being played at 6.00pm so if they could be there by 5.00pm that would be great so we can sort into teams.... For everyone else games will be commencing at 6pm. Games will be played at the Mackay Regional Football Zone in Glenella and many thanks go to those involved for letting us use the venue for our great game. Its still not to late to get involved just send us a message and we can add either yourself or your team into the competition. We look forward to seeing you all there on Thursday. cheers Grahame
