16.01.2022 This week Mr Simpkins and Mrs Austin held a leadership day for Year 8 students that are aiming to become future leaders within our school. The day focused on developing the student’s leadership skills in the areas of teamwork, motivation, presentation and last, but not least, the skills required to be a good story teller. On top of this, the students had a visit from Mackay’s Mayor Greg Williamson, who spoke to the students about the qualities that make a good leader and the everyday challenges that he faces leading our city. We look forward to seeing what these future leaders will do within and outside of Mackay North S.H.S.

10.01.2022 Work Experience Program Wrap Up 2020 Work experience gives students the opportunity to gain real life insight into possible job and career options and, in turn enhance their confidence to develop the 21st century skills required for future employment. In 2020 the Mackay North State High School Work Experience Program was largely impacted by the Covid 19 crisis and was consequently paused for some time. Despite this, an encouraging number of students participated in non-compul...sory work placement with approx 70 students across year 10 to 12 placed into a variety of vocations. North High is very proud of the efforts of these students as feedback from industry has been a credit to them. The success of the Work Experience Program would not be possible without the outstanding commitment of local businesses who have contributed their expertise and time to guide our future employees, business owners, entrepreneurs and professionals. North High would like to sincerely thank these business owners, managers and staff for your generous support throughout 2020. 07.01.2022 Dear Year 9 Parents and Guardians Did you know that road trauma is the biggest killer of children aged between 1-14 years old in Australia? To help combat this and to educate and empower our children to become safer road users, our year 9 students will be participating in a program called Road Set. Designed by the Australian Road Safety Foundation and funded by the Australian Government, this free, interactive online road safety learning experience is aligned to the Austra...lian Curriculum. It takes students on an engaging, self-guided learning journey, designed to help them develop their road awareness skills across a range of conditions, environments and scenarios. To allow for the completion of this program, students will need to bring a fully charged device (preferably a laptop or iPad) to school on Tuesday 24th November. As this is an interactive program, the use of headphones/ear pods is also suggested. Can I please request that you remind your students to bring their device to school on Tuesday, that would be greatly appreciated. https://www.roadset.com.au/

02.01.2022 Yr 12 Visual Arts in Practice student Sarah Jurg sure knows how to bend wire to her will. Sarah has made 2 fantastic wire sculptures. The first one is 'The Softball Catcher" and the 2nd larger one of a Doberman Pinscher. Sarah's ability in sculpture comes from her skill in drawing. She understands line, proportions and layers. These sculptures are very professional in quality. Sarah has a real natural talent when it comes to creating and it is hoped she will continue studying art or working in an arts related career when she finishes high school. One of the Units studied by the Yr 12's is entitled Natural and Man Made Forms where students learn carving, construction and modelling techniques related to sculpture.

02.01.2022 Over the past two weeks Mr Fergus, Mrs Austin and Mrs Wood organised for the Year 7, 8 and 9 students to donate what they could to three different charities. This year the Year 7 students donated towards the RSPCA, the Year 8’s to the Salvation Army Food and Gift Drive and the Year 9’s to Mackay Women’s Service. All representatives of the three different charities were extremely grateful for the donations and said that it will brighten up a lot of people’s (and critters) holidays. Well done to the Year 7, 8 and 9 students for their donations!
