25.01.2022 Activation early Sunday morning. Land search which turned into a flood boat rescue from Constant Creek Seaforth Yakapari Road. Thank you to those who were able to attend this activation. Mackay Group members Peter Schmid (Flood Boat) & Jake Mastermann. Mirani members - Erik Lindbergs, Anthony Fletcher (Flood boat operators), Jacque Bezzina, Kelly Oakley and Jan Lindbergs. Missing woman found by husband and QPS before arrival in very dense mangroves on mud bank with tide ris...ing. She was found to be in no danger from rising tide. Had injured her back so if flood boat was unable to extract her then Plan B (always have a Plan B), to have CQRescue winch her out as it was deemed impossible to be able to carry her out through the mangroves. Fortunately, the flood boat crew were able to locate them and extract them to the boat ramp where QPS, QAS and rest of SES Team were waiting to assist where necessary. Anthony got the muddiest, I think his wife will ask him to wash his own clothes. See more

For over 20 years the Mackay SES has been involved in the Special Children’s Christmas Party. It’s a highlight of the year to be involved in this important community event. #ThankYouSES

22.01.2022 Did you know the SES is part of a much larger family? We are just one of many the Services that make up QFES (Queensland Fire and Emergency Service). Last night, at the Mackay Regional SES Unit Headquarters, members of SES, Rural Fire and Emergency Services Cadets enjoyed a visit from Deputy Commissioner Mike Wassing and Assistant Commissioner Darryl King. We were also joined by Ivan and Andre from Fire and Rescue who gave a hands-on introduction to the Operational Support Unit. Along with many other things it is a Headquarters on wheels that can be utilised by both SES and Rural Fire to assist the community in their time of need.

20.01.2022 Last Week 2 more of our members returned from deployment in Northern NSW. They took up positions in the Incident Control Center. It takes a special kind of person to put their hand up to help their community in a time of need and these amazing members hit the pause button on their lives and helped out a community over 1200 Km away. Well Done Brian and James.

18.01.2022 Mackay Regional Unit has sent 3 of our Safety at Heights trained members to help out with the response to last weekends severe storms in the Southeast Queensland. They are joined by other SES members from across Central Region to make up the taskforce. These dedicated members take time away from their jobs and families to help out their community as well as communities over a 1000km away.

18.01.2022 Were enormously proud of our awesome members that have recently been deployed interstate to assist NSW with the severe weather event they are currently experiencing. In such large events - whether they be fire, flood or cyclone - our emergency services work by moving their resources (people and equipment) to the areas impacted / about to be impacted. This is known as moving resource to risk. Erik and Jan pictured here are about to return from a 5 day deployment to Lismore,... where they along with other Central Qld SES volunteers from Whitsundays, Rockhampton, Emerald and Mt Morgan, held positions on the Incident Management Team (IMT) at the Lismore Incident Control Centre. The IMT is integral to ensure that emergency operations run effectively by managing resources, public information, planning and intelligence. Another two members from the Mackay Unit left yesterday to take up similar positions at Lismore for the next 5 days. We say thank you to these volunteers for giving up their work and personal time to assist our fellow Australians. We also recognise their employers for releasing them, particularly given this is not a local event.

05.01.2022 Over the past 3 months, due to COVID-19, the SES had to come up with innovative ways to keep training. With restrictions easing, it was great to finally get together. Last night we had a visit from Regional Assistant Commissioner Darryl King, SES Regional Manager Andrew Wyatt, RFS Regional Manager Brian Smith and numerous members of the Rural Fire Service. Attendees enjoyed plenty of pizza, were able to look over one of the RFS Kawasaki Mule ATV. Also Mackay SES Group member Charles Hamlet was presented with an Assistant Commissioners Certificate of Appreciation for his work in organising Mackay Groups stores and vehicles.

05.01.2022 Today is International Volunteers Day and we would like to recognise four of our Mackay Regional Unit members that have contributed more than 250 hours each to the SES in the past 12 months. In fact, their combined input has been a staggering 1,200 hours! What makes their contribution all the more incredible is that they have managed to juggle it with their already busy lives as a business owner, high school teacher, full-time uni student and local government professional. Throw in family and involvement with other community organisations and you get the measure of their commitment. Nicole, Jacque, Stuart & Erik, you are amazing!

05.01.2022 What did you get up to this weekend? Some of our dedicated volunteers spent their Sunday on a First Aid course, ensuring they are ready to respond to their community needs. If you would like to find out more about the training that is on offer in the SES come along to one of our information sessions on the 2 & 5 March.
