25.01.2022 #MythBusting day 3: Globally, low #back #pain causes more disability than any other condition, yet its thought that only 1-5% of cases are caused by serious di...sease or injury. While it may hurt to bend and lift when you suffer from back pain, developing the mobility and strength to bend and lift is important. Many types of #exercise, including weight training, bring great benefits. #Physiotherapists can design effective exercise programs to help people to manage their back pain. #choosephysio and take control of #chronicpain. #WPD2019

20.01.2022 Recently there has been debate within health professionals about the benefits of icing following injury, some have been stating that it should be avoided completely. As many lay people can observe, whilst health professionals do work together amicably, quite often we do like a good stoush and arguement. One of the current topics is icing after injury. Adam Meakin, the author of the Blog; Sports physio, calmly and clearly reminds us that ice applied correctly and as recommende...d, is very safe, very inexpensive and it has been demonstrated to consistently ease pain following injury. It does not have a very large effect on swelling and the inflammatory response, actually quite minimal. But the inflammatory response IS crucial for healing and recovery and our best actions can be to ensure the injured person is safe, there pain is managed and that they get on with their life as best they can. As Adam has said perhaps we should just "chill out" and rather than start providing 'false news', really take a look at what is being claimed before attacking something that may be beneficial and helpful for an injured player, like vaccinations. 14.01.2022 In the wake of #WPD2019, were on a mission to bust some of the #myths around #chronicpain in Australia. First up; the prevailing myth that damage/degeneration ...always = pain, and vice versa. Although an x-ray, CT or MRI scan may occasionally be helpful, findings such as disc degeneration, arthritis, disc bulges and fissures are common in the pain-free population. Research has shown that musculoskeletal damage is not necessarily the reason for your pain. 10.01.2022 This is a warning, this post is about pain, so if you are not wanting to think, best move on to the cat videos or games. As I mentioned this post is about pain , and why it can stick or stay like an unwanted guest at the Christmas party!. Let me use an example; I bashed my thumb with a hammer, not to prove a point, (my wife asked me, why did you do that? as if i did it deliberately, which I found quite confusing and at the time not very helpful) whilst trying to get somethin...Continue reading
