24.01.2022 Such an amazing service for our community!

23.01.2022 We hear you WA. I wont stop fighting for WAs hard border. Restricting travel into Western Australia has been one of our most effective weapons against this p...andemic that has upended the world. When we made the decision to shut our border we did it to protect the health and well-being of our citizens. It has dramatically reduced the chances of the virus coming into WA from the rest of the nation. And it has worked. It has meant that Western Australians efforts and sacrifices to suppress the virus, like following the restrictions, closing businesses, washing hands, getting tested, staying home when sick werent in vain and undone by travellers. As a result of our success and our hard border, it meant that WA could lift restrictions inside our borders safer and sooner that everywhere else in the nation, so that the community could quickly regain the freedoms they gave up to fight the virus. The hard border gives Western Australians confidence to take advantage of those freedoms going to the pub, holidaying around the State, getting back to their favourite activities, spending time with their loved ones. The hard border has saved jobs and given businesses the confidence to reopen, rehire and invest, because they know the border makes it less likely well have to reimpose restrictions. As life gets back to normal in WA, confidence has returned and Western Australians are getting out there and supporting their local businesses and local jobs. Plain and simple: the border has saved lives, and as a result it has helped our local economy. I know its not without cost. Its affected certain businesses, its separated families. For that Im sorry. But Id make the same decision all over again. I will not be intimidated by Clive Palmer and the Liberal Party over this. We will do whatever we can to protect WA. Thats why we introduced the hard border. Extraordinary times, called for extraordinary measures. As Premier, I will continue to work cooperatively with the Federal Government and the Prime Minister, in the national interest and for WA. Ive respected the work and effort the Prime Minister has put in over a very difficult period. However on this issue, our position is clear. The Liberal Partys actions and support for Clive Palmer will have real consequences for the jobs, health and lives of Western Australians if they are successful in the High Court. The Western Australian community has been loud and clear. The hard border must stand, and only come down when its safe to do so. Thank you, WA.

20.01.2022 Today we are announcing a $1 billion economic and health relief package to help Western Australians get through this pandemic. So many households are dealing wi...th lost jobs, economic insecurity and are worried about the future. Thats completely understandable. Todays package is about providing relief for them and making sure we can all get through to the other side. I am pleased to announce the following: No WA household will have their water or power disconnected if they have experienced financial hardship due to COVID-19. As of tomorrow, those same people will have no interest charged on deferred bill payments. Eligibility for the previously announced Energy Assistance Payment boost has been expanded. This ensures that any person who has lost employment due to COVID-19, and becomes eligible for a concession card, will receive an upfront $305 credited against their electricity bill (from 11 May 2020) and a further $305 credited over the course of the year. The Energy Assistance Payments have been brought forward to this financial year rather than being paid from 1 July 2020. This means quicker relief for WA households. Households that are directly or indirectly impacted by COVID-19 may also apply for an interest-free payment arrangement and for late payment penalties to be waived for transfer duty, landholder duty, vehicle licence duty or land tax. Keystart home loan customers facing financial hardship due to COVID-19 can apply to defer principal repayments and waive interest costs by up to six months. These measures are all in place until at least 30 September 2020. This builds on the steps weve already taken, including freezing increases in household fees and charges next year. It is going to support thousands of WA families that are doing it tough due to coronavirus. Were going to get through this, and we are going to do it together.
