19.01.2022 MAF officially launched its latest operation in Guinea, West Africa, this month following three years of extensive research. An in-depth study has revealed that the presence of a consistent, sustainable domestic airline will greatly enhance development and support the work of aid agencies and Christian ministry in the country. Dave Fyock, CEO of MAF International says: ‘We see a significant opportunity to bring help, hope and healing through aviation in Guinea. Please join us... in prayer as we lay the foundations for this new programme and make all the necessary preparations to begin flying in this country.’ Read more here: http://ow.ly/nnr650EPotd

18.01.2022 #motivationalmonday "And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." - Galatians 6:9 Last week in one single day, these two Caravans together flew over 8000kg of food, passengers, coffee, peanuts and cocoa in and out of Goroka, Papua New Guinea. Simply amazing, and yes indeed, let us not grow weary of doing good as we begin this new week. 18.01.2022 #traveltuesday It is the last Tuesday of Spring in Australia and therefore our last post in the Travel Tuesday series that we have been doing all Spring. MAF serves in 28 countries around the world and over the last three months we have travelled together (virtually!) to 11 of these. We hope you have enjoyed the trip. For our 12th and final destination, let us visit Tanzania. ... Wildlife, beaches, friendly people, fascinating cultures, Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Mt Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar Archipelago Tanzania has all these and more wrapped up in one adventurous, welcoming package. (ref: The Lonely Planet). MAF began flying to Tanzania from Kenya in 1959. Later, co-founder Stuart King visited Tanzania, responding to Bishop Yohana Madinda's request. In 1977, we began a permanent programme in Dodoma to meet the needs of missionaries. Today, our focus is on medical and evangelistic ‘safaris’. National and missionary staff fly to remote villages to provide medical care, including antenatal and mother-and-child checks, and one-to-one evangelism. Thanks to these trips, isolated people can receive treatment and hear the Gospel.

17.01.2022 #throwbackthursday MAF Papua New Guinea's first float plane. Cessna 180 VH-BVR, July 1967. MAF Alumni Roger Young tells the following anecdote, "A story has been told that on one occasion Max Flavel took off in VH-BVR (on floats) and as he passed Wewak field gave his departure as VH-BVI - a normal wheeled Cessna 180. The tower queried his callsign and Max confirmed it was BVI. So the bloke in the tower gently said, "Max, if you take a look out the window you'll see a big cano...e-like thing!! Just make sure you do you next landing on water, NOT an airstrip!!" . . . #75yearsofmaf #mafpng #png #papuanewguinea #legacy See more

MAF has been working in Liberia for a number of years providing essential support as the only humanitarian flight service in the country. We now have an opportunity for a skilled leader to direct our Liberia programme.... Read more on this link: https://maf.org.au/current_vacanc/country-director-liberia/

13.01.2022 Staff Stories Sunday: Today's story comes from Anna Cuthel, serving with MAF in Kenya. Anna writes, "We have run out of Vegemite. It’s terrible. It happened a couple of weeks ago when the wretched dog finished off the final few squirts of that precious black gold by chewing through our last remaining tube. While I’ll admit having a break from the salty goodness of our national icon is not the end of the world, it is a physical reminder of how long it’s been since we’ve been ...home to Australia. Every time we come home we buy what we need from there that we can’t find herevegemite, decent cling film, underwear, kids presents for the birthdays and Christmases we’re gonna miss. This year, we’re out of all our stocks of all those things, and we’re missing home. Missing our families and the hugs, playdates and grandparent/cousin time that we would have had during the two month furlough that had been planned for July and August. It is a peculiar thing to have the option of home-coming removed from you. The Aussie government cancellation of flights and the crazy cost of hotel quarantining makes it almost impossible for Australian citizens to return to Australia right now. In this incredibly difficult year for our planet we are far from alone in grappling with disappointment. But wrestling with our desire to be home for Christmas and the simple inability to do so really brings home how very privileged we are that we are so accustomed to being able to do what we want, when we want to do it. It is a privilege that the majority of the world does not have, and it helps to keep this in our minds as we miss our tribe of family and friends in the Great South Land." Australia misses you too Cuthel family, and God bless you as you continue to serve far away from the Land Downunder for a highter, greater, Kingdom Purpose.

02.01.2022 MAF in Papua New Guinea are a lifeline for many students and teachers.. Pilot Ryan Cole explains, "Around the start of the year, one of our main jobs is getting students and teachers back to school. The school term in PNG starts at the beginning of February, so for the first weeks of each year we are busy flying as many students and teachers as we can possibly squeeze into our schedule. Because there are so few high schools in PNG, many of them are boarding schools. We fly a...round and collect the students from all the smaller villages and take them to the larger villages where the high schools are located, like Telefomin or Tekin. Since there are no roads in this part of the country, and it takes days or weeks to walk between villages, most of the students will not see their families until the end of the school year, at the start of December. But they know that a good education is a key part of improving the quality of life for them and their families, so they are willing to make that huge sacrifice. Usually around October or November, on a set date, the students are taking their final exams supplied by the Government. For the schools in the larger towns and cities, this is not a problem, but for the few remote villages that are fortunate to have small schools, they must wait until the exams can be flown in by MAF." This week, Pilot Paul Woodington flew to Tekin to fetch the grade 8 exam papers from the Oksapmin Secondary School to take them to Wewak, along with teacher Glenda Giles. From there, Glenda took the exam answer sheets to Vanimo for marking. . . #isolation #maf #iflymaf #flyingforlife #png #mafpng #pilotslife
01.01.2022 Focus on Partnership: Recently, MAF Uganda pilots Rembrand Rodenburg and Dave Forney flew a group of pastors from Jesus Film Ministries to Western Uganda. Sam Tsapwe leads the team of pastors who visited churches and believers in Western Uganda who are discouraged by the hardships of the Covid-19 pandemic. Sam explains how MAF assists his ministry: "Firstly, flying itself is expensive and the MAF flight is subsidised. Secondly, a commercial flight wouldn’t fly to this airstr...ip in Mbarara. MAF is flying us to very remote places that other planes don’t fly to. Thirdly, if we came by road we would be so exhausted once we arrived up in the mountains. We return from these ministry trips not completely exhausted because MAF have taken care of us and the flight is 50 minutes instead of taking most of the day driving. Because MAF is available to us, we are able to go where our hearts want to be, evangelising people that are hard to reach." . . . #maf #iflymaf #flyingforlife #uganda #mafuganda #missionarylife See more
