25.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE Hi all, following the Prime Minister's and the Premier's announcements today in relation to lifting restrictions in South Australia, we are sad to inform you all that we will not be commencing lessons in Term 2 of 2020.... Unfortunately, the lift of the restrictions still require a maximum of 20 people with the 1 person per 4 sqm rule for indoor fitness. Therefore, as our classes have an excess of 20 students and Greek dancing in nature does not allow for the 4 sqm rule, we are forced to remain closed until the Future Steps are announced post 8th of June. We thank you all for your understanding and support during this difficult time! We look forward to reuniting with our students, parents and instructors soon. If you require any further information, please feel free to contact us!

25.01.2022 2 more sleeps to go! Looking forward to seeing you all there! Zaffit SA 2020 Norwood Greek Festival

20.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE Hi all, We wanted to update you that we have touched base with SA Health to understand how we can move forward with our dance classes. ... Unfortunately SA Health has advised that dance classes do not fall under the contact sport classification. Therefore post 25th of June 2020, the restrictions will remain limited to 10 participants with the 4sqm rule and 1.5m distancing applied. It is with great sadness that unfortunately this means we will not be able to commence classes as of the 25th of June and need to wait till further announcements in the government roadmap to easing COVID-19 restrictions. Keep safe and we can’t wait to see you all again!

17.01.2022 to all our Orthodox friends!

17.01.2022 Reminder, no class tonight due to long weekend! See you all next week!

16.01.2022 URGENT- Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update Hi everyone, We wanted to take this opportunity to give you our thinkingon Coronavirus (COVID-19). As most of you will be aware, it was another busy weekend with the Government taking further steps to protect us. We are currently monitoring the developments and we are implementing additional steps to keep you and our students safe. ... According to the latest Government update, all schools are to remain open for the time being, however all assemblies, substantial gatherings, all interschool arts and sports events are to be cancelled. As such, whilst disappointing, after careful consideration we have decided to SUSPEND all further operations of the Dance School until further notice. This includes all lessons, upcoming performances and any activities associated with the operation of the Dance School. While we assess the risks with continuing to operate the Dance School as low, they do include bringing our students and teachers within close proximity, which creates unnecessary risk for our people. We understand that this is a very overwhelming time for everyone and whilst there is a lot of information available, our key priority is the health, safety and well-being of our students, our volunteers and our community. You may start to hear of people who believe they have had exposure to, or contact with a confirmed or suspected case. Health services guidance and our response to this exposure depends on whether that contact is characterized as casual or close. Importantly, unless you have had close contact with a confirmed case, the guidance from health experts is that you are at low risk of contracting the virus. To date, we have not had any suspected or confirmed cases ofCoronavirus (COVID-19) within our Dance School; however the very nature of Greek dancing (close proximity and hand holding) can pose a threat in the spread of the virus. The Department of Health has issued the following advice in relation to preventing the spread of viruses for children: - Teach and encourage children to wash their hands often with soap and water before and after eating as well as after going to the toilet; - Avoid spreading infections to others by keeping children home if they are unwell; - Teach children to cough and sneeze into their elbow. We hope you understand that this is not a decision we have made lightly and we will continue to keep you informed of any updates. For further information relating to Coronavirus (COVID-19), please visit the Department of Health website www.health.gov.au Furthermore, if you have any questions in relation to our Dance School during this time, please contact us via email on [email protected] or via our Facebook page. Kind regards, Messinian Greek Dance School of S.A.

13.01.2022 !!! We wish you all a happy, safe and healthy Easter! , . Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and to those in the tombs, granting life.

11.01.2022 Wishing our very own Peter Sfyrios (PsTweety) a very Happy 60th Birthday!! What a milestone!!! Peter, you are an integral part of our Dance School! All our students, teachers and families have created some very special memories with you over the last 10 years! Thank you for always having our Dance School in your heart and for all your hard work throughout the years! ... Unfortunately due to the restrictions we can’t celebrate with you in style, but we can’t wait to reunite again and see you back in action! Happy 60th from all of us at the Messinian Dance School!!

08.01.2022 It's been a while since we touched base! Unfortunately due to the new COVID restrictions, this means we will continue to miss all our students and families. To all our students, teachers, families and followers, please keep safe!

08.01.2022 It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of our Honorary President and Founding Father, Angelos Bouzalas, on Saturday 22nd May at the age of 86.... Angelos was an institution of the Messinian Association of South Australia. After migrating to Australia from the proud Messinian village of Kleisoura, he established our Association in 1959 when he wrote and circulated an invitation calling all Messinians of Adelaide to a meeting for the purpose of forming an Association and approving a Constitution. In just over 60 years since that day, the Association he established has grown into one of the biggest Greek Associations in South Australia, with a thriving Community Center, Football Club and Greek Dance School. For over 60 years, Angelos served our Association with pride and distinction. He served as our first Secretary, President of the Executive Committee, President of the Auditing Committee and our first Honorary President. Angelos’ proudest achievement however was his 60 years of service as an active volunteer. Together with his wife Triada, he cooked at hundreds of Sunday BBQs, helped organise numerous Victor Harbor Australia Day picnics and dedicated countless hours of his time supporting the Messinian Tent at the Glendi Greek Festival. His presence, institutional knowledge, sense of humour and wisdom will be deeply missed by all of us at the Messinian Association.

01.01.2022 COVID-19 UPDATE The Messinian Association of SA is currently working through COVID Safe and COVID Management Plans. The plans can take several weeks from application to approval, however we will be looking at ways to ensure the operation of the dance school as soon as practically possible. As mentioned previously, 1.5m physical distancing is mandated at present based on the restrictions, which in turn makes commencing our classes difficult due to the nature of Greek dancing.... We hope to be able to work through this as soon as possible and able to commence classes. Thank you all for your continued support and we will continue to update you with any developments.

01.01.2022 With all the recent developments around COVID-19, we hope all our community and friends are keeping safe! Please check in on each other and look after your families! We miss you all and hope this will be over soon so we can all reunite!
