12.01.2022 Why do I make earrings? Because I have ears and I love to embellish everything in life so why not! No seriously, why do I continue to make these fiddly little bits? It’s a labour of love. When I first moved from the country to the big smoke (Brisbane) for university and while I studied Art and fashion; I worked in the most beautiful little dress boutique filled with the very best of Australian design in jewellery and apparel. Lisa, the owner and small retail patriarch ran th...e store and a market stall and a wholesale studio. I spent hours in that shop cleaning, visual merchandising, repairing jewellery, selling of course and sketching my own designs. I was paid to copy dress patterns and sew up dresses in Indonesian batik fabrics. I used to sit on the hardwood floor of my Queenslander rental drafting and sewing. So earrings. They are an outlet for me to design and produce products. They are small and affordable and an expression of my love for body adornment. Sweet Petal earrings just work.
