11.01.2022 Living with diabetes can force major changes to your lifestyle, but if left unchecked, it can also rob you of your vision. Research shows after 20 years of ty...pe 1 diabetes, 99 percent of people will have some type of diabetic damage to the eyes and 60 percent of type 2 diabetes will have suffer damage. The trouble is: there’s hardly any warning signs. So, you are urged to get an annual eye exam from an independent optometrist to spot problems in time.

11.01.2022 Did you know? - Eyes recuperate rapidly. With appropriate consideration, it takes just around 48 hours to repair a minor corneal scratch. - There are around 39 ...million individuals that are visually impaired around the world. - 80% of vision issues worldwide are avoidable or even treatable. - Humans and dogs are the only species known to look for visual signals from another person’s eyes, and dogs possibly do this while communicating with people. - A fingerprint has 40 special characteristics, however an iris (the coloured part of your eye) has 256, a reason retina scans are progressively being used for security purposes. - Individuals who are visually impaired can see their fantasies if they weren’t born blind. - Red eye happens in photographs since light from the flash bounces off the rear of the eye. The choroid is situated behind the retina and is wealthy in veins, which cause it to seem red on film. See more

08.01.2022 After 14 incredible years working along side Kay and the Main Street Eyecare family, I wish all the patients, customer, colleagues and locals the utmost love, joy and good health now and always as I say my farewell. With a recent move away from the Peninsula, my undergraduate studies coming to an end and a new family dynamic to nurture, I felt now was a great time for new adventures in my new season. I have met some spectacular people and had some incredibly beautiful spirits offer me the privilege of serving them and loving into their lives. Thank you to Kay, Russ, Matt, Louise, Leo and the wider Main Street Eyecare family & Peninsula community for making room for me all these years. Treasured memories and family I will miss dearly. Stay healthy. El x

07.01.2022 It may seem less urgent to have an eye exam now due to COVID19 if you’re not experiencing vision problems, but more than 270 serious conditions can be detected ... which may affect the way you see and your overall health. Most are asymptomatic, so an annual eye exam by an independent optometrist is recommended to keep you healthy. For those working or attending school from home now, increased screen time can cause eye strain, which can lead to symptoms such as headaches and blurry vision. Whether you’re experiencing digital eye strain or dry eyes, or if you have health conditions such as hypertension or diabetes, comprehensive eye exams are vital. Anyone with risk factors for glaucoma such as being over age 60, having a family history of glaucoma or physical injuries to the eye should have regular appointments for eye pressure. And being checked for cataracts from age 60 can help prevent loss of sight

06.01.2022 Getting your eyes tested by a qualified Optometrist or an Eye Specialist regularly is very important. Many people have been putting this off due to COVID19. Regular eye examinations help find any symptoms associated with eye strains and provide you with solutions.

06.01.2022 While we have all been stuck at home, we haven't been using makeup as much - Did you know bacteria grows fast in mascara? Even though you may not have used them it is important to replace your products every three months to avoid developing an eye infection.

02.01.2022 If you want to properly take care of your eyes, you should make changes to your diet. The foods you regularly eat can affect how your eyes function, as well as ...their susceptibility to common eye diseases. The eye is a delicate organ that needs a proper amount of protein in order to remain healthy and functional. You can get protein by eating foods such as fish, chicken, and beef. If you want variety, be creative with your meals and look for recipes that use ingredients packed with protein.

02.01.2022 Did you know? - An eye is made out of over 2 million working parts. - Just 1/6 of the human eyeball is uncovered. - Corneas are the only tissues that don’t have... blood. - The human eye weighs about simply under an ounce and is about an inch across. - An eye can’t be transplanted. More than 1 million nerve fibres interface each eye to the brain and as of now, we’re not ready to reproduce those connections. - 80% of our memories are dictated by what we see. See more

01.01.2022 After working from home for the last 12 months it might be time for an eye check? Wearing glasses or contact lenses can correct refractive errors and make your ...vision clearer. But if you have the wrong prescription, which is possible, it may do more harm than good. Wearing the wrong prescription glasses for a prolonged period of time can cause eye strain, resulting in itching or burning eyes and soreness in or around the eyes. See more
