25.01.2022 We moved into a new house with big, beautiful gardens. Its fun watching new buds pop open and shoots sprout - time for this novice gardener to get educated!!

25.01.2022 This is the message that is blaring around the entire world today - to just stay home! Its really got me thinking about a lot of things. In the last week Ive learned lots of lessons... - How to properly wash my hands - seriously, its an art! ... - Listen to and follow precautions - Be kind to others - What you choose to do today will most certainly affect others But the one thing Ive been coming back to over and over again is the importance of HOME. In the middle of a global crisis, the BEST place for us and our families is our home. Home is important. Now, more than ever we need to put more effort into make our homes a fortress of peace, a place of refuge, a safe place where we can teach and learn and nurture and reassure and laugh and play. So go ahead and strengthen those walls, make your house a place of peace and safety. Learn how to entertain yourselves. Go without. Do more cooking, more crafting, more gardening, more exercise, more reading, more resting. The world may be falling apart around us but the whole world is in it together. Maybe this is a message to each of us to slow down, be humbled and reassess the things in your life that matter most. Stay safe, spend as much time at home as you can, reconnect with those you love and learn to be comfortable with your own company. 23.01.2022 Proud to be a Tasmanian

23.01.2022 Four years ago I knitted myself a jumper that I NEVER WORE! The fit just wasnt right and I wasnt sold on the colour. I used one of my favourite yarns - @pluckyknitter Snug Worsted and it seemed such a waste not to wear it. For years Ive been thinking about unravelling the jumper and having a go at dyeing the yarn. Im a complete novice at dyeing ANYTHING, but gave it a shot anyway! I used a blue dye expecting a brown colour, but have ended up with an interesting shade of army green. I dont know if I love it or not?! Will see what it looks like knitted up and I guess I can dye it black as a last resort?!

23.01.2022 The little boys had fun making aliens using the ‘good’ clay today. Shops may be closed but we still got some new toys! Inspiration from @mericherryla #myalienarmy

23.01.2022 Last week’s sewing project! I pulled out this @lillestoff sweater knit purchased many moons ago from @craftymamasfabrics. I wanted something loose and cosy so tried out @megannielsenpatterns Jarrah with scoop hem & funnel neck. Ticks the box for a snuggly winter warmer! #megannielsenpatterns #mnjarrah #lillestoff #isewmyownclothes #imakemyownclothes

22.01.2022 A muted colour palette for this slow-stitched rope basket made from my fabric scraps. I like having a basket ‘on the go’ - it’s not a project I’ll pick up every day, sometimes I’ll leave it for a few weeks before continuing, but it’s such a lovely slow-paced make to have on hand.

22.01.2022 A dish full of treasure pots. Gifted to me (an early birthday present from @carlijeff) Beginning to fill with treasures by the little ones around me. (Including an egg ) Pottery by @thrownbyjo

21.01.2022 Got some serious plant envy going on! Wholesale plant shopping with my sisters in Sydney...if only I could get them across the Tasmanian borders! @_urban_flower_ @happybiome

18.01.2022 March 2020: the BEST way to catch up with family. #stayhome

18.01.2022 Honoured to call this special man my Grandad. How sweet the reunion must be in heaven with loved ones today. God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be so he put his arms around you... and whispered, come to me. With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away and although we love you dearly we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.

18.01.2022 We love our Nativity puzzle from Pint Size Planet it’s cleverly designed and beautifully illustrated. This puzzle is tricky enough to be a challenge, but not too difficult that it’s unachievable for little hands. Each layer tells a part of the Christmas story, this is a Christmas keepsake that we will enjoy playing with for years.

17.01.2022 Well this is a little bit fun! I have been using the online textile basket tutorial by @craftschooloz and enjoying turning some of my fabric scraps into the beginnings of this basket. Its beautifully presented and super easy to follow along. Perfect for some quiet time at home. #coilbasket #textilebasket #slowstitching

17.01.2022 We bought my niece a mermaid fairy from @the.small.folk shop for Christmas. I used felt to hand-sew a play mat/cave for her to live in. I dove in to the project with no end-point in mind...cutting and sewing and building as I went. Its # a little bit wonky but I know shell have loads of fun with it!

17.01.2022 A tower of knitted dishcloths. I’ve set myself a challenge to clear out my yarn box...so many random balls and skeins that I have collected over time for different projects that haven’t all eventuated! Fresh off the needles...knitted dishcloths in a variety of patterns (I settled on preferring a simple seed stitch in the end) using Abbey Road Kung Fu Cotton from @spotlightstores #knitteddishcloth #spotlightstores #abbeyroad #kungfucotton #knittersofinstagram

16.01.2022 I’ve joined the mask-making bandwagon! These are headed to our family in Victoria to help them get through the next few weeks. I found the pattern on japanesesewingbooks.com - it’s the Contoured 3D Face Mask and I’m hoping it will offer a bit more structure to other styles that suck onto your face. I initially cut elastic for the ear loops, but it’s actually scratchy and uncomfortable to wear so swapped it out for strips of jersey fabric. I also like that the ear loops are threaded through a casing so can be fully adjustable. Hopefully this info will help others searching for a good mask pattern!#JSBfacemask

15.01.2022 ART TIME! So many projects on my to-try list...just maybe I will start ticking some off now?! This project was inspired by @art__teacher__life after she shared one of her at-home activities for her students. Yesterday we found interesting surfaces to use for crayon rubbings, then painted over the top with water colours. Today we cut the papers up to make collages. I made a collection of bugs, @whatlilmakes captured a soothing walk and Tommy had fun making a dragon!

14.01.2022 Yesterday we said goodbye to my Grandad. He was affectionately known as the animal whisperer and especially loved chickens and birds. I made a chicken skirt to wear to his funeral. Ill always think of him when I wear it. (Pattern is the #brumbyskirt by @megannielsenpatterns fabric is @seeyouatsixfabric purchased from @maaidesign) @ Soldiers Beach Surf Club

13.01.2022 To be honest, our Summer has been pretty average this year. Today, however is a scorcher! Perfect to wear this quick-sew, recently finished #fendress. Im wondering if the neckline is a little too wide for my broad shoulders? Maybe an alteration to make for next time. Otherwise its roomy and light and cool and easy to wear! Also, the pockets are great for egg collecting - I had 8 in there this morning! #fendress pattern from Fancy Tiger Crafts Fabric is a bright cotton-linen blend from Spotlight

12.01.2022 I took that pile of hand-dyed yarn from a few posts back and knitted it up into a #nurturedsweater!! My very first wearable jumper and Im super pleased with how it turned out. I own zero cropped-style tops because I thought I didnt like them, but Im obviously being swayed now! Next time I might size up just a smudge because this one is pretty snug, but the back is actually really loose and kicks out a bit so not sure whats going on there?! any Nurtured experts out there have any advice?? Pattern from @dreareneeknits - its a good one! Yarn from @pluckyknitter, overdyed by me!

11.01.2022 My basket is complete. It’s a little wonky, but adds to the charm! Such a fun slow stitching project...and great way to use up some scrap fabric. I loved including beautiful raffia from @theraffiaconnection Thanks for teaching me a new skill @craftschooloz - can’t wait to make some more! #coilbasket #textilebasket #slowstitching #raffia

10.01.2022 I treated myself to a slow sewing session today after cleaning the entire house! This pastel rainbow cord was too hard to resist, but I didnt know if it would be thick enough to sew into rope bowls. I couldnt get any big ones (the rope is too thin - 3mm - to get much structure) but it did sew up some cute little bowls for holding small collections. Pastel rainbow rope from @spotlightstores #ropebowl #spotlightstores

04.01.2022 When my children woke up yesterday they asked if we were going to start homeschooling, I said Nope! Today we are just going to BE! I let them get bored, fight a little bit and then they settled down happily playing, drawing, playing the piano, creating. It was just what we needed after crazy times. And the day turned out so beautiful that we took the Hobie Fishing kayaks out on the ocean for an hour - you cant beat that for extreme social distancing!! I know how lucky we ...are to live in an isolated corner of the country - we have a big backyard, a long bush track and beautiful ocean right at our front door. It certainly makes staying home a lot easier. To anyone wondering what schooling from home is going to look like, madly trying to keep their kids busy and learning...I say forget it for now. If youve chosen to stay home from school, chances are your pretty terrified by whats going on at the moment. Give yourself (and your kids) some time to chill out, calm down and play for a bit. #covd19 #stayhome #learningthroughplay See more

01.01.2022 No shops? No pants? No worries! Our local retail shops have been closed for a couple of weeks. With the temperature getting lower and kids getting taller we are in need of some new winter clothes. A few years ago I rarely purchased clothes for my kids and opted to sew them all. Im out of that routine and miss it! And when he declared that he has never had a more snuggly pair of pants, it made me smile! Pattern #minihudsonpants by @truebias

01.01.2022 I recently attended a clay workshop with local artist @susansimonini. Here are my creations! Some a little wonky and wobbly but it was a fun process and I now have TREMENDOUS respect for potters! It’s way trickier and more complicated than it looks!
