15.01.2022 Happy Friday everyone. The coronavirus data for East Gippsland remains unchanged, with two active cases. There are no active cases in the 3892 postcode, or any adjacent areas in Victoria. The nearest cases in this state are in the 3875 postcode, which is Bairnsdale. These people are currently self-isolating, as directed, in their home communities.... As we all do our best to continue on with our lives during these unusual times, we want to remind everyone how important it is to maintain your health and look after yourself. This includes continuing to stay in touch with your GP or/and Healthcare provider as you normally would. Don’t let any health issues you may be having slide. Give your Doctor a call and discuss with them your next visit a phone call or Telehealth appointment may even be enough. We don’t want anyone neglecting important treatment! And remember, you are permitted to cross into NSW for healthcare. (More info about border restrictions here: https://www.nsw.gov.au//what-you/border-restrictions/guide) Take care of yourself. It’s more important now than ever. Please help us keep our community up to date and informed by sharing this message with your friends and family. Stay Safe Mallacoota District Health Community Nursing

The Bookshop film, is based on the 1978 novel of the same name by Penelope Fitzgerald. Florence Green, a widow, has decided to open a bookshop in the small coastal town of Hardborough, acquiring as her premises the Old House, a damp and abandoned property that has been standing empty for many years. After refurbishing it and moving in, she learns that Violet Gamart, an influential and ambitious local resident, had privately earmarked the Old House for her own pet project, a local Arts Center.

08.01.2022 Although our fight against COVID-19 requires physical distancing and reducing unnecessary trips throughout the community, it’s important we don’t lose touch with the people around us. People need people. In community, there is strength. For elderly people in particular, and those living with a disability or an illness, being isolated can become a dangerous situation.... Here in Mallacoota and District, we’re in the habit of checking in on our neighbours from time to time or ducking over for a cuppa with an elderly friend or relative. These informal visits have a huge impact, on making sure vulnerable people stay connected to others, and the social and wellness supports they may need. COVID has changed all that. And so we need to find other ways to stay in touch. If you know someone who is isolated in Mallacoota and District whether it’s your parents, friends, or a neighbour you barely know find a way to reach out to them. Give them a call, knock on their door, or slip a letter under their door to say hi and ask whether you can be of any help. If you are isolated in East Gippsland or are having a hard time coping at the moment, here are some resources that might help. National Coronavirus Helpline: 1800 020 080. Open 24 hours. Older Persons COVID-19 Support Line: 1800 171 866. Open Mon - Fri 8:30 am 6 pm If you are feeling less connected as a result of COVID-19 you can also call the Coronavirus hotline (1800 675 398) and press 3. You will be connected to a volunteer from the Australian Red Cross who can link you with local supports. Here are some other numbers: Beyond Blue 1800 512 348 Lifeline 13 11 14 MensLine 1300 789 978 Let’s all look after each other, and we’ll get through this together.
