21.01.2022 Episode 2 of MISSING PAUL, an original play, now released on our YouTube Channel FOR FREE! EPISODE 2 of 3 - https://youtu.be/crI-Z1rd2zM EPISODE 1 is still available, just subscribe to the Channel! Our play, Missing Paul, is a collaboration between six Melbourne writers, Horrie Leek, Pam Christie Birkett, Alison Campbell Rate, David Collins, Chris Hodson and Alison Knight. It was intended as a diversion during the height of the Corona Pandemic earlier in the year and Malver...n Theatre agreed that it deserved an audience. So, this is a world premiere! The writers knew each other through community theatre. However, in writing the play, there was no overall plot laid out and each could take the story line in whatever direction she or he chose, using their mutual gift of imagination to the fullest. Well, they certainly let their imaginations run wild twists and turns, red herrings, false impressions. You, our audience, are in for an intriguing journey! As with Malverns recent play-readings at the theatre, there are very few props, and the settings are indicated generally, as the actors recorded via Zoom from their own homes. Cast Jessica Symonds is Kate Carmichael, Pauls 16-year old daughter Alison Knight is Karen Carmichael, Pauls wife Ryan Fahlbusch is Trevor Carmichael, Pauls 19-year old son Chris Hodson is Arthur Murphy, a shadowy figure & a Passer-By who is a keen gardener Ric Birkett is Gregory Harman, another shadowy figure Pam Christie Birkett is Madeleine Scott, an ambiguous figure Alison Campbell Rate is Sarah Noakes, another ambiguous figure David Collins is Paul Carmichael, a much talked-about man. The play is set in various locations and so we have a Narrator, Mandy Murray, who will explain where the action is taking place and, as necessary, describe the physicality of the action. So, let your imagination take flight be ready to discover! Is Paul really missing? Who is missing him? Is he alive or not? 20.01.2022 The Waverley Theatre The Waverley Theatre on Waverley Road in East Malvern (next to McDonalds) opened in 1936 and seated 1150 people. It closed in 1958 and was... converted into a sound recording studio. In 1965 the ABC leased the building and remodelled the interior into rehearsal studios for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO). In 1994 the property was sold and the MSO relocated to Southbank. The theatre was then used as a function centre, and later as an indoor family centre. In 1991 the building was identified as one of the 15 most important cinemas remaining in and was later classified by the National Trust. However, due to the significant changes it had undergone over the years it wasn't considered sufficiently intact to be added to the Heritage Register. In 2000 the building was converted into apartments. Photos 1 - 3 1936 Photo 4 1976 Photo 5 2005 Photo 6 Present Day

04.01.2022 TICKETS SELLING FAST - DON'T MISS OUT! With under a week until opening night, we're looking forward to seeing you online or back in the theatre. Here's some rehearsal shots, also the Director's notes as background to the show. Loretta writes: 'Any Given Monday' is a very funny, very dark comedy, that challenges our beliefs about right and wrong as well as questioning our thoughts about everything from racism and violence to religion and free will. After seeing this show three... years ago, it made me think about current situations in our world today - the moral conundrums about equal measures and perplexing dilemma that we face in our toxic culture. Any Given Monday cleverly balances the ignoble politically incorrect with high and low humour and various compromises. In 2010 it won the Barrymore Award for Best Play. Bruce Graham is one of Philadelphia’s most prolific and most produced playwrights. His plays include 'Any Given Monday', 'Something Intangible', 'The Outgoing Tale', 'Stella and Lou', 'Funnyman', and 'Rizzo'. 02.01.2022 80% of tickets for 'Any Given Monday' already sold - DON'T MISS OUT!! Opening tomorrow night for the streamed version, and Saturday evening live on stage. Here's some more rehearsal shots, also some insights into getting back into a theatre at the start of this year, written by Bruce Hardie: "We first met via Zoom. Because of course we did. This is 2020 after all. I was so excited by the thought of getting to work with one of my best stage mates as well as some new friends wh...ose work I have seen and enjoyed. But I would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous about getting back to it. Can I put a whole play's worth of words into my head and have them come out at the right time? It's been a long time since I used those muscles. The Malvern Theatre Co really seem to have done a lot of thinking about how we can work in the COVID19 world. We are taking lots of precautions during the rehearsal process and even the performance schedule is going to be fluid depending on where we all find ourselves when it's time for the curtain to go up. We are going to give this our best shot and hopefully we can find our audience again. The first rehearsal: HOME - it felt like coming home again. First rehearsal and into blocking mode. Starting to find out who our characters are. Already feeling the energy flowing through me and riding the scene. Trying stuff. Trying it again. Changing it again. And again. Until we get to the point that feels right. Our very limited audience in the room already getting plenty of laughs. Best of all sharing the stage with a great theatre friend and bouncing off each other within the very first hour. This is going to be great!"
