23.01.2022 Is it time for your 10,000 deadlift service??? From an injury perspective, deadlifting can be quite high risk. The height of the bar off the floor and the position of it in front of your shins makes it awkward, and very difficult to bring in the big power muscles in the early part of the movement. Trap bar/hex bar or rack pull/hanging deadlifts are a safer option. ... However, if youre going to pick heavy weights up off the floor, everything needs to be in perfect working order. Thats where we come in. #deadlift #lowerbackpain #hippain #trainsmart #physiotherapy #chiropractor

22.01.2022 The ability to develop stiffness in the muscles of the lower back is essential to your overall function. You also need great moblity in the hips. Improving your mobility and function is our job, getting it strong is your job. Here is an except from a blog post by one of our chiropractors Andy Knowles on this very topic! "Can you imagine stacking a bunch of blocks on top of soft cushions and expecting the whole thing to be stable? Sounds crazy, right? If you were going to do ...it, youd need to tie the blocks down on all 4 sides to make the structure rigid. However, what if you needed to also able to move? Things would get complicated quickly. Youd need a lot more wires, pullies and a system to control the whole thing. Some of the wires would have to go tight at the same time others went loose. The fascinating thing is, this is close to how your lower back, or lumbar spine, actually does work. A series of blocks stacked on cushions, or bones stacked on top of discs. The spine has a number of different roles - Protect the spinal cord and nerves that send messages to every part of your body. - Allow movement so that you can bend, lift, twist, sit and walk. - Transfer and disperse force while you are bending, lifting, twisting walking etc. And do you know what? It does this far more elegantly and reliably than any guywire or pully system ever could!" To read the whole thing go here https://mandurahspineandsport.com.au/how-your-lower-back-a/

21.01.2022 How you sit is no where near as important as how long you sit. You’re designed to move not to stay still. The discs in your spine need regular movement to keep them healthy. Sitting still, even with perfect posture for longer than 20-30 minutes at a time puts pressure on your discs. - - So what does that mean? Move position. Get a standing desk, change how you sit. Just move!!! -... And if you find that you can only sit one way or in a special chair otherwise your back plays up, then that’s an issue and you should get in and see us. #lowerbackpain #discinjury #lowbackpain #ergonomics #movedamnit #standupdesk #chiropractic #physiotherapy @ Mandurah Spine and Sport See more

21.01.2022 A true hands on approach by a Physiotherapist that does WAY more than just give exercises and say itll be fine, go home. Treating shoulder problems requires a lot more than a few exercises on a handout that could have been easily found for free on YouTube. And seriously, when has anyone ever moved the arm with the elbow locked by the side! The role of those muscles isnt to rotate the shoulder, but to STABILISE it. Training the muscles this way is not the best approach. ... Find out how the shoulder muscles work on our blog https://mandurahspineandsport.com.au/blog/ If its time to have the shoulder looked at, then make a booking with Luke.

20.01.2022 For those of you taking advantage of the day off to hit the gym, heres a little tip. Shoulder stability is influenced by how hard you grip the bar or weight. The stronger your grip, the more the muscles of your shoulder contract. - This is an anticipatory reflex to prepare the shoulder for a heavy load. - So squeeze that bar!!!... #shoulderstrength #rehab #muscles #bigshoulders #stronggrip #chiropractor #physiotherapy #mandurahsmallbusiness @ Mandurah Spine and Sport See more

As we don’t work in a hospital setting or provide Telehealth services it appears we have to close. We are still waiting on clarification from both the chiropractic and physiotherapy associations, but we will not be opening today. 14.01.2022 The first 5 people to book with Andy and use the words 'Foam Rolling' in the booking notes, will get $50 off the inital visit. https://edwardsspineandsport.cliniko.com/bookings#location Does foam rolling your back really do want it to do? Probably not. The action puts a lot of stress on the bones and joints of your spine in a way they are not really designed for. The spinous process, the pointy bit at the back of each vertebra is not supposed to hold your body weight. And the... joints of the spine are made for you to stand up straight, not to have your body weight sheered across them. The lumps that you are trying to workout when you roll over them end up just getting pushed and squished further in the soft tissue of your back. You can see what happens when I roll over this lump of BlueTac. Even if I hold pressure on the spot, it just pushes further into the tissue. Sure, you get that good hurt, but the lump is still there the next time you use the roller. We use a targeted form of soft tissue therapy that has been designed to breakdown and free up the lumps youve beating yourself up trying to deal with. We have you move while the muscle is under tension, this way we can provide a very local stretch to the muscle. If you want to find out we can do for you, click the link below and book in with Andy. Andy is highly trained to diagnose and treat lower back and hip problems.

14.01.2022 Pain in this area is a common presentation to our clinic. People usually complain that something feels caught or stuck under their shoulder blade. That is gets really tight and when its bad it can feel like something is sticking into your back. - This is rarely because of weak rhomboids or other shoulder muscles. In our experience there usual is something stuck, but its not a joint or a rib or your shoulder blade. - Our physiotherapist Luke will explain more tomorrow...... #neckpain #physiotherapist #mandurahsmallbusines #shoulderpain #wingingscapula See more

14.01.2022 This is a quote on our board at work. Its from The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson. Basically you need to be strong enough to move your body weight around in y...our environment. Could you pull yourself out of the water and up onto something without help? Could you get a tree? Could you move fast enough to get out of the way of danger? - - Theres two types of people we treat in clinic. The ones that hurt themselves doing too much. And the ones that hurt themselves by not doing enough! This second group would be 85% of our patients. We get it, it can be painful to get going. An injury might have stopped you, or you just hate exercise. We can help you with the first two pros, thats what we do. The last one is on you. - - Luke is demonstrating some basic shoulder exercises in video. If you did 40 of these a day broken up into lots of 10 or 20, that would go a long way to improving function. Doing small set throughout the day reduces soreness and helps you build a more function farmer type fitness. #farmerfit #shoulderrehab #homestrength #primalblueprint #chiropractic #physiotherapy #suspensiontraining #trx #survivalofthefittest @ Edwards Spine and Sport Luke O'Neill See more

09.01.2022 PAIN at the back of the wrist when doing push ups or when getting up out of a chair is a common problem. So what can cause it? - - In our experience, short of t...here being an traumatic injury, the pain is related to the radial nerve. The nerve becomes trapped in the muscles of the forearm. 08.01.2022 Since the gyms are closed, here are some simple home exercises to get you ready for them to reopen. These exercises focus on the posterior chain of muscles from the calves all the way to the tip of the neck. 4 simple exercises that can be done at home and all you need is a band and a step. Repeat the neck exercises 1-2 times every few hours, but all other 2 sets of 10 in the morning and in the evening.

08.01.2022 Ever have the feeling your physio or chiro just doesnt understand what you are going through? I did. Ive had multiple surgeries to my knee and shoulder. I tried multiple different treatments before and after these operations. It wasnt until recently that I found something that worked. It worked so well I quit my old job and went back to school to learn how I could help people. My name is Luke ONeill and I became a physiotherapist because I know what its like when you nee...d help and you dont get it. Theres nothing more frustrating than being told to do something that doesnt feel like it is helping, by a person who has never known what it feels like to have pain. I can better understand where you are coming from, because Ive been there. If you want someone who understands, has been in pain and also tried everything, then Im your physio. Hands on treatment, no time wasting exercises, no telling you to think differently about our pain. Honest assessment and a treatment plan to help.

08.01.2022 Training the rotator cuff muscles to rehab a shoulder doesnt really make sense. Despite the name, the rotator cuff stabilises the shoulder. The big shoulder movers are the Deltoid, Lats and Pecs. Training those brings in the rotator cuff doing its normal role of stabilisation.

07.01.2022 Luke our physio is back! Hes spent the last few weeks figuring out ways to help with lower back, hip and knee pain. If youve been using the last few weeks to up your exercise and things are starting to twinge, or working from home with a less than optimal work set up (both have been a very common presentation lately), then come on in and see if Luke can help.

07.01.2022 The neck and the shoulder are best friends. Problems in both areas are very common, often at the same time. However, being able to diganose and treat the neck and shoulder correctly is not very common. If you've been doing your rotator cuff exercises and your still having issues, book an appointment with our physiotherapist Luke. Find out if there is more that can be done. https://mandurahspineandsport.com.au/book-appointment/

07.01.2022 Does your squat look like A or B? If it looks like B and youre trying to fix it with a band around your knees you are increasing the strain on your knees according to this study in the British journal of sports medicine. https://bmjopensem.bmj.com/content/6/1/e000610 ........ Your knees arent coming in because your glutes are weak. Theres a number of reasons, but in our experience the adductors arent lengthening correctly. If you want to find out what the real problem is, come in and talk with Andy or Luke. 07.01.2022 ROTATOR CUFF RELEASE. Shoulder pain is a common issue that stops a lot of people doing the things they love. A lot of times this is misdiagnosed. In our experience, the shoulder blade wings out because the rotator cuff is overused and tight. The deltoid is weak, and the rhomboid is just an innocent bystander, getting stretched and strained. Stretching the rhomboids and strengthening rotator cuff won't cut it. If you've been doing the exercises and still have a problem, our physiotherapist Luke might be able to help.

05.01.2022 One if the most common things we hear from patients is I felt it twinge a week or two ago, I thought it would get better... - A niggle is a lot easier to work... on than a full blown injury. While this study was done on soccer players, it applies to everyone doing the same thing day in day out. Does your wrist niggle when youre using the mouse? Does your knee niggle going up the stairs? Does your hip niggle when you walk? Does your back niggle when you get out of the car? - Getting something done at the first sign of trouble is going to be easier and cheaper. #nigglesmatter #lowbackpain #neckpain #shoulderpain #chiropractic #physiotherapy #kneepain #wristpain @ Edwards Spine and Sport See more

05.01.2022 Wasting time doing rotator cuff exercises??? Shoulder pain can be frustrating to deal with as a patient, usually because the wrong things get treatment!!! The rotator is often blamed for shoulder pain. But is it a problem because it is weak? In our experience with painful shoulders, it is usually beat up and over-worked. Giving it more work to do with daily exercises is not very helpful. Our approach is different. To understand the role of the rotator cuff, deltoid and shoulder pain read this blog post by our physiotherapist Luke.

04.01.2022 Lower back pain can literally be a pain in the butt. There are many possible causes, but one often over looked cause can be the cluneal nerves. Typically the pain starts as a sharp pull into the top of the glutes. This can last a day or two, then eases off to a dull ache. It leaves people feeling like they need someone to stick an elbow into the buttock, or like they need a good crack. But these treatments dont seem to work or last. The chiropractors and physiotherapist that work with us are trained to diagnose and treat this problem. Treatment is not a crack, an exercise or an elbow into the buttock. See our previous videos of how we do what we do. No point doing the same thing and expecting a different result!
