25.01.2022 This coming week we’ll be exploring Jalandhara Bandha (otherwise known as the chin lock) in studio classes. This is a technique used for gathering energy in the torso and heart space while also generating a quieter mind. 17.01.2022 Today I was reflecting on the words that capture how my current yoga practice has changed my life, the words were:COURAGE: These practices revealed my reservoir of courage and allowed me to make some tough decisions that I’d been struggling with for over a year. FAITH: I now have faith in my practice. I know WHY I do it, what to do, where it comes from and what the intended results are. There is no making stuff up and hoping for the best. CONNECTION: I’ve never felt so connected to my own personal practice and to the world that surrounds. Getting on my mat is no longer a chore, it’s more a gravitational pull and it’s all for me, not for the sake of planning classes or ticking a box. Feeling so very grateful to have discovered this beautiful path of yoga. What would your 3 words be?

15.01.2022 Sutra 1.12 of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra’s provides a key approach towards yoga. Abhyasa (Practice) and Vairagya (Non Attachment). Broadly this Sutra instructs us to make a supreme effort towards practice while at the same time cultivating an attitude of surrender or non attachment toward outcomes. The result being the sweet spot in the middle, the place of magic, the state of yoga. One of my little mantras on repeat at the moment is ‘lean into the resistance’, when I feel like cutting meditation short I instead lean in and stay longer with an attitude of surrender; often that’s when a breakthrough comes, the dropping in to flow state, ease.. This sutra truly is gold, a path to yoga all on its own. How do you apply these principles in practice?

13.01.2022 A few times I’ve been asked why I don’t play music in classes, think I summed it up perfectly mid class today.... ‘I’m not here to entertain you, I’m here to evolve you’ No idea where that came from but couldn’t sum it up any better if I tried. Yoga invites us to journey inwards, most of us already have too much external stimulus in our lives. Our practice is a place where we are invited to go in, truly in, to reveal the hidden parts of self. Only there will we find our truth.

What an incredible 10 months it’s been, the growth in each of these beautiful humans has been so inspiring to witness. It’s been such an honour to facilitate this journey alongside our incredible team @yogawithhelenjane @lauren_verona_yoga @nourish.body.mind @sophrenee @bettinaraeyoga Can’t wait for the next one, 2021 applications now open, course starting in March 2021.

10.01.2022 Had such an incredible last few days co-facilitating the @zenkoyoga 200hr teacher training course. Overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunity for us all to come together. It’s such a privilege to witness the personal growth that takes place during these courses, I cannot wait to see these new teachers get out there in the world! 10.01.2022 Tapas (discipline, heat, austerity) can look different for each individual. I like to think of it as leaning into the resistance. My preferred natural state is movement, to be constantly doing. I get a great deal of tapas from simply sitting to meditate each day. For others Tapas might be to get moving, to get the heart rate up or to give something up for a few months. When we regularly do that thing we resist, we grow as a more adaptable, strong, capable human being and at some point might even enjoy or love what we avoided for so long! The yogis say that pain in unavoidable, but suffering is optional. What does Tapas look like for you?

04.01.2022 In sutra 1.30 Patanjali outlines a number of obstacles on the path of the yogi, one of the big ones, ‘doubt’. Many of us have become accustomed to instant gratification, we want results and we want them quickly; and when the results don’t arise in our intended timeframes, the doubt monster takes hold...maybe this isn’t the right path, maybe this isn’t the right mantra/practice, whatever it might be. Daily I sit at this alter and take in this mantra, ‘worship your vision’ thi...s is how I keep my doubt at bay. It doesn’t matter what we are seeking, if you truly want it, your commitment needs to be unwavering; it’s got to have bucket loads of Shakti behind it. So when the doubt monkey kicks in, ask yourself how much do you want it; have you given it some ripening time, and are you willing to sit in the mud while you wait for your lotus to bloom? See more
