Today is also World Suicide Prevention Day - a day that helps create greater awareness of suicide and suicide prevention, change the way suicide is understood and discussed in the community, and connects people to support services.... We know it is hard for people to say when they are not ok. So lets work together to make this process easier, as well as support and connect with each other (whether someone has said that they are ok or not). Lets not make today the only day we ask. Lets not make asking the only way we check in with or help someone we are worried about. What else can you do? Here are some suggestions: - Suggest you do something together - Call or visit them, just to say Hi! - Share something that you have been experiencing, to help open up a conversation - Treat them to a healthy meal - Suggest you go for a walk or something outdoors that you enjoy together - Send them a photo of a good memory - Tag them in a funny meme or video and start a conversation from that - Send them a handwritten card - Plan to do something together in the future - Offer to help them with something, such as cleaning, washing, or fixing something - Talk to your Doctor - they are always happy to listen and offer support and guidance to help yourself or someone you are worried about. 21.01.2022 Meet Dietitian Eleni Georgiou - Joining the MVM team in January 2021 Eleni has a bachelor’s degree in health science, majoring in Nutrition and a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics. Eleni’s Greek heritage afforded a strong Mediterranean lifestyle which surrounded her by delicious food, embarking on a career based on food seemed only natural! Eleni is a strong believer in the power of food and is passionate about spreading this message to the wider community.... The emphasis placed on social outings and the time-poor nature of the community sometimes make it difficult to maintain a healthy balance however Eleni has a thorough understanding of the needs of today’s society and aims to steer away from fad diets and trends and instead promotes good, wholesome eating that can be tailored to each person’s needs to create sustainable nutrition choices. The diverse nature of Eleni’s experience in the industry makes her a perfect candidate for any individual, at any level of health to find their medicine through food. She has had experience working with a wide variety of clientele, broad community projects, clinical and general settings as well as schools and youth programs. Fantastic communication and social skills provide Eleni with a unique ability to rapidly create rapport and trust between client and practitioner. She can tailor nutrition advice to address specific areas such as weight management and general health with a particular interest in chronic disease management and prevention. 16.01.2022 New After Hours Care Arrangements Dear Patients, As part of our commitment to provide best health care, we are changing our After Hours Care arrangements. From 1/5/2020, between 6 pm to 11 pm on week nights, one of our own doctors from Manly Village Medical will be available, if you urgently require medical assistance. Our doctors will take your call, and be able to advise you what needs to happen next, whether that is an immediate consultation or going to an Emergency Depa...rtment, or whether it can wait until the next day. The benefits of this extra service we are offering are: Opportunity to speak with a doctor who knows you* Better communication between the after hours doctor and your usual doctor Improved continuity of care and simplified follow up. *Note the doctor you speak with at the time may not know you personally. The doctor may have access to your medical record at the time of the call, but this is not guaranteed. When to ring for after-hours service: If you or someone you care for is unwell and you are worried that medical help cannot be delayed, give us a ring on: 0480 272 082 Please note that emergencies such as chest pain or shortness of breath must be seen at an Emergency Department, and minor concerns such as prescription repeats should be dealt with during normal business hours. After 11 pm to 8 am, and on weekends (Saturday after 12 pm), our existing after hours arrangement with the National Home Doctor Service will continue. We are excited to offer this extra service for our patients, and trust we will continue to improve our comprehensive care for our community.

She has worked at several hospitals around Queensland including the Princess Alexandra Hospital and Queensland Childrens Hospital. Dr Nerissa has thoroughly enjoyed working in the field of paediatrics and surgery....
