25.01.2022 OK so here goes... This past weekend I had two separate conversations with two different people who had come to me for advice of a similar nature; What can we do to help the boys and men in our lives be happier, less anxious and more comfortable in their own skin?... I felt humbled that these two caring people had sought me out for guidance. I realised immediately that my fear in launching the Man Restarted campaign was a selfish fear and one that was born out of discomfort. I like my little comfort zone and, quite honestly, doing this scares the sheizen out of me. As some of you know I have been working on a book for the best part of 18 months. The book seeks to provide men in their middle years with real tools that can help them rediscover the spark in their lives that they may have lost. To help blokes that are going OK but want more out of life than just mediocre. To support guys that may be living a life of quiet desperation. The book is now completed and is awaiting feedback that will hopefully see it into print by September. So it seems my comfort zone is no more. I have no more excuses or delays. We have to start this now. Over the course of this week, I will introduce you to the guiding philosophy and the principles that underpin what Man Restarted is all about. My hope is that someone reads my words and immediately feels like the words have been written for them and their situation. If that can be achieved then we can begin to set in place the plan to a happier life. Not all will agree with or relate to my message and the content that I will share. Thats ok as an important part of the Man Restarted message is to find what works for you. Thanks for being interested enough in me, and in what I believe is my calling in life, by liking this page. I hope that you or the men in your life find value in the Man Restarted campaign. Kind Regards Steve 5/6/17 PS I am a Man Restarted in progress

24.01.2022 Please believe me when I say that I do not utter these words lightly.... Best. Speech. Ever Ive rarely (if ever) spoken of being humbled and privileged to hear someone talk. I had that experience last Saturday night at Craig Harpers Transformational Weekend when Lisa Stephenson took the stage.... If you get the opportunity to hear Lisa speak, work with her or be enriched by her wisdom in some small way, DO NOT PASS IT UP. #champion Resilience is more important than happiness #nohashtag
24.01.2022 Happy Friday people! We find ourselves at the end of another busy week and almost at the end of another winter! Woohoo! While the impending spring is cause for celebration, well soon realise that Christmas is only 4 short months away and with it all the relentless commitments and stresses that the festive season brings.... On top of our usual frenetic lives, how on earth will we find the time to take a breather, mentally as much as physically? Mental fatigue seems to be a year-round affliction... with our never ending connectivity to work, life commitments and inability to escape the white noise of our lives in 2017. Our brains need a spell! Heres a way to not only find some mental peace but a proven way to improve your sleep, combats stress, allows for better focus and is a vital part of being a more resilient person. Mindfulness Meditation. Im a convert to mindfulness meditation and cant recommend it highly enough. Smiling Mind is one of a myriad of downloadable apps that can help you find some mental peace. I like it as the guided voice helps me relax. Find one that works for you and give it a go. You dont have to be a kaftan wearing, incense burning free ranger to get into it! https://smilingmind.com.au/our-programs/
24.01.2022 Getting a little better every single day is a Man:Restarted mantra and this article investigates a to-do thats on my Get Better At list. Being a bonafide gun man-cook! The benefits of becoming a better cook are clear;... *It saves you money (save your coin for special occasions) *Its generally healthier (no added duck fat!) *It makes you irresistible to your lady friend/s (well as long as your personal hygiene is not an issue). While I do some lovely work with a slow cooker and lamb shanks, there is no doubt that my skills in the kitchen could do with a boost. So whats your go-to dish when you have control of the kitchen and what dish would you like to add to your repertoire? http://www.executivestyle.com.au/why-learning-how-to-cook-w

22.01.2022 Words to Restart #5 Final post of the week The 4th principle of Man Restarteds foundation philosophy is relentlessly pursuing self-improvement. ... That sounds a little excessive, doesnt it? I mean who can be bothered with pursuing something relentlessly? How could anyone possibly achieve that? Talk about setting yourself up to fail.... It sounds like an admirable aim but is it attainable? What is self-improvement anyway? It sounds like a wanky term that life coaches and HR Coordinators would spruik. Cant I just focus on changing a few habits, losing a few kegs, romancing the lovely more often and getting around to learning how to cook a decent Thai meal? That sounds like an easier option. I was reading a book the other day about changing habits and it made perfect sense. Pretty much anything that I want to change in my life can be done by adjusting something the boffins call the habit loop. Its an unbelievably simple strategy that has helped me to give up sugar and cut back on the beers! Gimme a spell with your relentless pursuit of improvement fluff and Ill just stick to changing a few habits that I need to do. -------------- Excuse the facetiousness in getting my point across but I believe that were onto something here. We all have things in our life that we want to change, start, stop or improve. Many of these things are based on our automatic response to a situation that our brain recognises as a cue to begin a behaviour. By understanding how habit loops work, you can change even the most hard-wired, subconscious habit. If we can combine this understanding of how habits can be adjusted to an inherent need to improve ourselves then.... well real transformative change is possible. Improving doesnt mean some wanky theory like upping your mindset to the next level that some motivational speakers urge you to pay them $997 to teach you. It means being a man who wants to; read to get more knowledgeable, work out to get fitter, learn how to emotionally connect better with his loved ones, watch how to videos to get better around the house, get coaching to be able to knock those damn 8 foot putts in! Whatever it is that you want to get better at, you actively commit to getting better it. Just a little improvement, every day = being relentless. To learn a little more about habit loops, check out this brief video from Charles Duhigg, author of the best-seller; The Power of Habits. http://charlesduhigg.com/resources/how-to-break-habits-2/ I hope youve enjoyed our little introduction to what Man Restarted is all about. Next week Ill cut back on the long-winded explanations and shared around a few interesting articles and videos that men interested in a Restart might find handy. Have a great long weekend, Steve

16.01.2022 Words to Restart #1 A Man Restarted is a man of Backbone and Heart This simple phrase from Steve Biddulphs book, The New Manhood, came as he described what a good man looked like.... "Backbone is the ability to stand firm, endure, be true to his word and to sometimes put himself last, especially under circumstances of great need or stress. A man with backbone is someone that you can count on. But this kind of man was incomplete....what the new man, the post-Vietnam era male, brought to the situation was heart....now it could be shown- affection in the family, grief and concern, love and compassion in private and public life." These few paragraphs changed my entire perspective and direction in terms of what I was writing about. Backbone and Heart was quickly scribbled on the whiteboard above my desk and became the driving motivation behind every word that I wrote. It was the perfect antithesis of the poisonous message young boys have been receiving for generations. Be a man who can combine physical strength with integrity. Be a man who can confidently share how he is feeling, his fears, his dreams and continue to protect his family. The perfect Ying and Yang of manhood. Man Restarteds core philosophy became a quest towards being a man possessing Backbone and Heart. All the how and why flows on from that simple statement. In posts this week I will guide you through the principles that underpin this; *Possessing Unbreakable Standards that guide you through your life *Triumphing over boys thinking *Being a man with a high emotional intelligence *Relentlessly pursuing self-improvement These are the core principles that Man Restarted is built upon. Four simple yet challenging tasks for a man to undertake that will deliver him a richness of life that he never thought possible.
16.01.2022 When you know youre on the right path its a very rewarding feeling. Tonight reaffirmed that in spades. 16.01.2022 Man:Restarted is all about men rediscovering their spark and developing their own preventative measures to keep them away from the slippery slope to darkness... However on an important day such as when we promote the R U OK? message, this vision from Wayne Schwass is too important not to share. #backboneandheart
15.01.2022 I was just in the car on my way to pick the kids up from school & an ad for one of those ‘payday lenders’ came on the radio. The gist of the ad was ‘money short for Christmas? Well visit us for the answer to all your money worries’ Seriously.... These bandits pray on people who are caught up in stressful financial situations & deliver them a debt hole that many will struggle to climb out of. One of my online mentors is the ‘Barefoot Investor’. In this blog from 2015 he gives up the game that these types of ‘businesses’ play. 13.01.2022 Inspiring men towards living a life of Backbone and Heart is the foundation upon which Man:Restarted is built. Heres another man who lives those ideals to a T. Samuel Johnson;... 12.01.2022 They say that one of the keys to living a happy life is to be grateful for what you already have. Being able to breathe in the amazing , relax and exhale during the ordinary and hold on during the awful is what we all should strive for. The Resilience Projects programs offer a way to find this balance.... Im very excited to lock in my tickets to hear Hughs talk next month. Its one not to be missed!

09.01.2022 In 1938 Harvard University commissioned a study that surveyed 724 young men across a range of physical, mental and emotional examinations. The Harvard Study of Human Development is now in its 80th year and is still providing groundbreaking insights into the lives of its participants, all now well into their nineties and numbered fewer than 100. One of the studys most important outcomes has been its discoveries about the correlation between quality human relationships and... happiness. When asked what the main finding of the Harvard Study was, George Vaillant, Director of the Study for over 30 years, replied; "Happiness is love. Full stop." The science is loud. Finding and then nurturing loving relationships in your life is your golden ticket to happiness. In recent times the importance of romantic partners being emotionally intelligent (or possessing a high EQ) has been found to be a significant factor in the quality and longevity of a relationship. This is why the third supporting principle of Man Restarted focuses on developing emotional intelligence skills in men. If we want to help men find their way to a happier life then supporting them towards deeper, more connected and mutually fulfilling romantic relationships is an obvious priority. This TED talk from the current Director of the Harvard Study, Dr Robert Waldinger is entitled The Good Life. His insight into happiness and health is something that everyone should take note of. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-7zAkwAOYg

02.01.2022 Words to Restart #2 - Unbreakable Standards One of my online mentors is a man named Wayne Levine, author of the best-selling relationship manual for men; Hold On to Your N.U.T.s... Despite the cheeky title, Waynes book deals with a serious topic; the reasons why so many men struggle in modern relationships. Not only does Wayne provide the why, but he offers real-world advice and tools to help men develop deeper and more intimate relationships. The basis of Waynes N.U.T.s theory is the establishment of a set of Non-Negotiable, Unalterable terms that a man can use to improve his life and relationships. As I read Hold Onto Your N.U.T.s it became clear to me that I was on the right track in my belief that a set of Unbreakable Standards was a vital part of a man relaunching himself. Ill refer to Wayne to further explain the concept of N.U.T.s and the importance of establishing Unbreakable Standards in a mans life. Please take the time to read the excerpt from Wayne Levines brilliant book below. To add Wayne to your list of Online Mentors, please visit www.bettermencoaching.com http://bettermencoaching.com//relationship-book-excerpts.p
02.01.2022 Craig Harper is a gem of a bloke. Honest, straight down the line & partial to an F Bomb or two. He also offers great advice that everyone in the Man:Restarted family can use in their own lives.... If you get the chance to hear Craig speak Id highly recommend that you do so. Take the opportunity to be inspired with this short message (2min 17secs of your life). **no f-bombs in this so its safe for work, around kids or easily offended ears**
02.01.2022 Words to Restart #3- Silencing Boy Psychology Dr Arne Rubinstein is a world renowned expert in adolescent development and Rite of Passage Programs. His book, The Making of Men has become a must-have resource on the bookshelves of parents around Australia. I constantly refer to it for guidance in raising my son as well as for my own development as a man.... While the majority of Dr Arnes work involves teenagers, his findings on boy psychology and the damage it can cause when present in a man had a profound effect on Man Restarteds philosophy. Being a man is about where you mind is at- not how big or strong you are. In order to be a man, there needs to be a psychological shift in the way that you think, see yourself and see those around you - Dr Arne Rubinstein A man who exhibits the thinking, behaviour and emotions of his childhood self is a man who hasnt made that psychological shift. The impact that this has on a mans relationships, career and happiness in life can be dramatic. A Man Restarted is a man who has left behind his boyhood mindset and displays a healthy mans psychology. In the coming weeks, we will discuss examples of boy psychology and how they can be overcome. In this YouTube clip Dr Arne touches on the dilemma that faces men who havent left behind their boy thinking. He also comments on a number of other topics that make the 17 minute investment of your time, well worth it.
