25.01.2022 A timely reminder to our communities to ensure you avoid using machinery in dry grass on hot days, and wait until a cooler day to complete paddock work if po...ssible. Around 3:30pm on the 31st of January, a number of CFA brigades and aircraft were called to a grassfire near Goughs Bay, on Goodwills Road. Crews worked quickly to get the fire under control within the hour. While we have had plenty of rain this season, we have still seen a number of fast-moving grassfires across the state. There are a number of things you can do to minimise the likelihood of a haystack fire starting on your property, including: Make sure hay is well cured before bailing Know the history of the hay you purchase... Keep haystacks to a limited size Monitor moisture and temperature of your hay regularly Watch for unusual odours - such as pipe tobacco, caramel, burning or musty smells. 15.01.2022 Residents and visitors to Goughs Bay and surrounding areas may see or smell smoke from two planned burns tomorrow (Thursday 3 December). Forest Fire Management ...Victoria crews will carry out the windrow heap burns at Forest Camp (east of the township) and in the Delatite Arm Reserve (west of the township) to reduce bushfire risk. Both burns are less than a hectare in size. We understand that smoke from planned burns may cause concern, and we encourage those who are sensitive to smoke to remain indoors and keep windows closed until the smoke passes. Under the current public health advice, our planned burning program can continue for now. If that advice changes, we will make any adjustments necessary in consultation with Victorian Department of Health & Human Services, Environment Protection Authority Victoria, CFA (Country Fire Authority) and Vic Emergency. Our crews are adhering to appropriate physical distancing and hygiene requirements to ensure we can safely continue operations across the state.
