22.01.2022 **Marcellin Moments** Semi-final Tie vs Canterbury 2015/16. (Graeme White 7-82) This week we look back at a remarkable Wright Shield semi final where Marcellin was at home to Canterbury. Batting first, Marcellin put together a highly competitive 270 with Dom Harding, Julian Black, Callan Stewart and Nick Burt the main contributors with the bat. In front of a good size crowd the next day, Canterbury started steadily. Marcellin were kept in the game by left arm spinner Graeme W...hite. The Englishman put on a spin bowling masterclass taking 7-82 from 25 overs. Requiring 56 runs off the last 5 overs, Canterbury batsmen Lloyd Mash lead a fightback getting the equation down to 13 from the last. Hitting the first two balls of the over for 2 and 6, Canterbury looked to have the game won. However, in trying to finish the game with a six, the former Victorian batsmen was caught on the boundary by Neil Minto for 134. With three runs required off the last ball, Canterbury could only manage two, resulting in a tie and seeing Marcellin through to the Grand Final having the higher ladder position. See more

19.01.2022 **Marcellin Moments** Marcellin win second Premiership in 1982/83 vs East Doncaster (John Gartner 116, Al Weir 3/10) In March 1983 the club was in search of its second premiership when the 2nds took on East Doncaster at Tormore Reserve in Boronia. After winning the toss, Marcellin were 2/44 when John Gartner joined Michael Butler at the crease. The pair put on a 113 run partnership to put Marcellin in a strong position, with Butler making 50 and Gartner finishing on 116. Oth...er contributors were Mick Dillon (21) Peter Bell (20) and Marty Johnstone (20) getting Marcellins score up to a highly competitive 284. In reply, East Doncaster were in the contest at 3-89 but lost wickets at regular intervals from there on in and were dismissed for 190. A strong bowling performance from Marcellin with big efforts from Al Weir (3-10), Marty Johnston (3-32), Bill Price (3-74) and John OLoughlin (1-50) seeing Marcellin win its first premiership for 10 seasons. Day 1 didnt go exactly to plan with Barnies notching up 409. Nick Bortolotto was the pick of the bowlers taking 4 for 83 with his offies. In an extraordinary run chase, Marcellin passed the total 9 down in the 80th over. The star was Sunny Singh with 273, whic...h included 31 fours and 13 sixes and remains to this day the highest individual score by a batsman at Marcellin. https://mycricket.cricket.com.au//pa/public/rv/match.aspx

14.01.2022 **Marcellin Moments** D-Turf Premiership 2005 Marcellin 194 (Anthony McIntosh 100) and 6-79 Def... Deepdene Bears 135 (Julian Sakowski 4-10) and 9-205 Ashwoods home ground turned out in pristine condition for the 2005 D-Turf Grand Final between Marcellin and Deepdene Bears. Deepdene won the toss and batted but were soon in trouble with Ron Murray taking 2 early wickets. Apart from a fifth wicket partnership of 44, Marcellin were able to take wickets at regular intervals dismissing Deepdene for 135. Julian Sakowski was the pick of the bowlers taking 4-10 from 14 overs and was well supported by Ron Murray 2-5 and Simon Fleming with 2-24. Marcellins reply didnt start well and the innings never gained any momentum. Losing the 9th wicket on 122 and still requiring a further 14 for the all important 1st innings lead, Sakowski joined Anthony McIntosh at the crease. The pair steadily got Marcellin over the line but it wasnt without incident, as Sakowski pulled a hamstring and required a runner. Both continued on after passing the total, sharing in a 72 run final wicket stand, with McIntosh first reaching 50 and then hitting out to make a match defining century. As there were still 87 overs left in the match, Deepdene batted again and put the pressure back on to Marcellin scoring quickly to declare on 205, with a 146 run lead. Bernie Dinneen (4-59) and Simon Flemming (2-36) were the pick of the bowlers in the second innings. Marcellin required 147 runs to win the match outright, but they were more interested in batting out the remaining 49 overs for victory. A scare was sent through the camp when Mick and Daniel Dinneen were both out in the 44th over, however, Marty Mac was still there after opening the innings and never gave the opposition a look-in. Bernie Dinneen was also steady under pressure and finished with a flourish, scoring ten from the final over as the players revelled in an amazing premiership triumph. Just six weeks earlier, the team had won just two matches thanks to washouts and narrow losses, but won four straight to scrape into the finals and subsequently go all the way.

11.01.2022 **Marcellin Moments** Wallys 4ths go back-to-back. 2012 Marcellin OC 141 (Rob Galati 34, Chris Wall 22, Dale OBrien 19) ... DEF Knox Churches 105 (Michael Tricarico 3-21, Scott OBrien 3-22) After a successful return to the club in season 2010-11 winning the LOC 5 premiership, Chris Walls 4th XI was looking to go back-to-back taking on the highly fancied Knox Churches in the Grand Final of LOC 4 at Howard Dawson Reserve. Winning the toss and batting first, Wall opened up with Rob Gelati and got Marcellin off to a fast start scoring 52 from the opening 10 overs before Gelati was out on 34. Wall shared in another partnership with Dale OBrien before he departed on 22. Wickets fell regularly from the 22 over mark and Marcellin were bowled out for 141 with four overs still remaining. In reply, Marcellin got off to a great start with opening bowler Michael Tricarico taking the first of his three wickets with the score on 9. Opening partner Luke Gregory chipped in with one and after 22 overs Knox Churches were reduced to 5-50. From there, Scott and Dale OBrien finished the game, taking 3 and 2 wickets respectively with Knox Churches falling 36 runs short. A great win by the 4ths, defeating top of the table Knox Churches who finished 15 points clear after the home and away season and in doing so achieved the rare feat of consecutive premierships.
