15.01.2022 Renowned UPLIFTER, Shaun Kay inspired students, teachers and parents to shift their thinking, make a choice and live their best lives when he ran workshops at MRIS last week. The 28 year old's personal journey of self-transformation lead him to establish Smile Teachers https://www.facebook.com/shaun.kay.988. During the student workshops he covered mindfulness, breathing strategies, resilience and positive framing and emotional regulation. Shaun also conducted a free parenting seminar for parents which was well attended. Principal Wendy Roediger said MRIS was committed to providing parent education as part of its mission to ‘Share the Learning Journey’. We recognise that parents are a critical factor in a child’s learning success and we all share in the ‘learning journey’, she said.

11.01.2022 What a fantastic result!!

11.01.2022 Today students from Montessori Primary School and Margaret River Independent School returned to their adopted spots at the Gnarabup track and Redgate Beach. Ear...lier in the year students had spent time digging and planting in pig face plus laying peppi brush. Across the two schools 800 cuttings were planted. At Gnarabup students were delighted to discover that all of their pigface cuttings had survived. Thanks to some careful work by Genny Broadhurst from the Margaret River Coastal Residents Association the peppi brush was working very effectively as a windrow, stopping erosion and providing shelter for cuttings. After assessing their planting students were introduced to Tamara from the Undalup Association. She is an eloquent story teller who captivated students with Wadandi culture and stories of country. She inspired everyone and helped to deeply connect children to country. Students walked back along the beach and collected rubbish. They were excited to spot a nest of Plover eggs. Such a wonderful find! Tamara carefully protected them. Back further in the nook of Gnarabup she shared more stories of the place and ended the session wonderfully. At Redgate, students from Margaret River Independent School were also happy to find that nearly 90% of their pigface cuttings had survived. An excellent success rate in such a harsh environment. Students were then able to meet Tamara and were mesmerized by her stories of Wadandi country. The day left everyone with a renewed sense of respect for country and culture with a feeling of belonging. Nature Conservation’s ‘Adopt a Spot’ Program at coastal sites is generously supported by the Line in the Sand Philanthropic Group.
